I got Revengineering before Milestone 1 as I had the FJ from a random drop, so I'm thinking the prerequisite thing doesn't really work. Shine 06:11, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh, yeah... hadn't considered that. Well, chalk up another 'It seemed like a good idea the time', then. -- MistahFixIt 06:28, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

I think Patent Protection may be bugged currently. I've destroyed multiple Sentries with my Wrangled one, all levels as well on both ends, and have not gotten it. Spy Master Kaze 11:30, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I added a few suggestions for earning several of the achievements: Breaking Morant, Get Along, How the Pests Was Gunned, Texas Two-Step, & Trade Secrets. Bigjimtaters 12:18, 30 August 2011 (PDT)

Difficulty

I consider editing the 'Best little Slaughterhouse' difficulty to medium - hard. This achievements is one of the rarest ever, I know lots of people who got almost any other achievement except for this one. It requires an enormous amount of engineer playtime. Thoughts? It's not really hard to do though - just time-consuming. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 14:56, 25 September 2011 (PDT)

Bugged Achivements

Since my edit was reverted I thought it best to discuss it here.

"Please note that three of the Engineer achievements are currently bugged. Patent Protection, Quick Draw and Get Along! will all fail to be rewarded if the current Server has a Server Number of anything but 1. Checking the Console when you first connect to a Server will tell you it's current Server Number. Actions such as map changes increase the Server Number."

Despite RagnarHomsar's claim: "not true, server # has nothing to do with achievements being rewarded". This behavoir of those three specific achievements is easily demonstratable and repeatable. I doubt it's the actual server number it's self causing the bug but rather something that breaks that correlates with an increase in server number from 1.

From my own recent experience I fulfilled the requirements of the achievements many times on multiple different servers on multiple dates without them being rewarded. After ruling out any other obvious issues I could think of (valve's servers being down, sv_cheats 1 etc.) I turned to google. I found many others with the same issue and someone claiming they are bugged and explaining the Server Number indication followed by others thanking him saying they finally earned these achievemetns following his information. I promptly started a new tf2 server, invited a friend, checked that I had a server number of 1 (I did) and instantly got the achievements by following the exact same procidure I had done numorous times before. The only obvious difference being the Server Number Variable (every other time I was testing this I was setting sv_lan 0 then changing the map to make a listen server public which increased the server number). Anyway this is getting long and rambling. As I'm new here and not familar with the rules etc. I'll perhaps just leave this messsage here on the talk page for anyone interested.

  • If it's really that big of a deal and you really insist it's true I reset my achievements recently and can test Patent Protection on my server. User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 11:34, 2 October 2011 (PDT)
    • Sorry if I came off as upset or mad I'm not. :) This bug did cause me considerable frustration though and I thought it important to informs others so that they may avoid that frustration. Jcelios 11:39, 2 October 2011 (PDT)
      • Just tested Patent Protection on my server after changing the map 6 times. Didn't work. Tested it on a fresh reset, it worked. I'm an idiot, go ahead and re-add the bit about server numbers in a new section at the bottom named "Bugs". User RagnarHomsar Userlink.png RagnarHomsar 11:40, 2 October 2011 (PDT)
      • Thank you for taking the time to test my claims. I think skepticism is important in maintaining wikis anyway. : ) Jcelios 11:44, 2 October 2011 (PDT)
  • From RagnarHomsar: "I just tested Patent Protection on my server while it had a Server Number of 7, and it awarded me the achievement. My first experiment turned out faulty because my partner was using the Mini-Sentry.'
    • I have now tested Patent Protection on my server. In all instances it had a Server Number of 2. First I tested a regular level 1 sentry wrangled and attacking a mini-sentry, this award that account the achievement. Then I tested a mini-sentry wrangled and attacking a level one sentry, this award that account the achievement. I currently haven't tested a situation in which both sentries are mini ones. But it appears that the instances when you were not award the achievement involving the mini sentry were examples of the bug. I have also ran many further tests on the other two achievements with the server numbers ranging from 1-7 and found I was able to get them sometimes and sometimes not, regardless of server number. Along with your experiences this leads me to believe that those three achievements are obviously bugged in some fashion but that this behaviour doesn't correlate well with server number. Though still seems to be connected to it in some way. All my tests were performed exactly the same in every way except for server number. Well, sigh. Such is the nature of bugs. :P If I had to speculate the issue is probably related to something about changing maps or something that only happens on certain maps on certain loads of that map etc. I think the server number factor is incidental in any case. I should probably just leave the rest to Valve's Internal QA Team hah. -Jcelios 14:46, 2 October 2011 (PDT)

Six-String Stinger and the Shred Alert

I deployed the Shred Alert right after I killed someone as Engineer (man I love that thing), and it awarded me the Six-String Stinger achievement. Is this because of its nature as a guitar or because I happened to have the Frontier Justice out at the time? Can someone check on this? lavacano201014 (yell at me here) 00:43, 22 September 2013 (PDT)

I believe it's currently a bug, but hey, those are totally your guitar skills at work! Maybe it's a case of "the developers think of everything". - InShane (talk) 08:11, 22 September 2013 (PDT)
