The Administrator

Competitive Mode is the newest official game mode to be released in Team Fortress 2. The mode is accessible only by owning a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass or a Community or Self-Made quality item. If a player does not meet one of the two requirements, they can still access the beta during scheduled stress tests. The "Play Competitive" button will only appear if the player has associated their Steam account with the Steam Mobile Authenticator, even by meeting any of the two requirements above. Like regular matches, any weapon and class can be used at any moment.

Gameplay

Competitive Mode will be a more refined version of the standard Multiplayer game mode, but has a much less chaotic and random nature than Public Matches.

Changes from Multiplayer

This game mode has a round-based match system with alternate announcer voice lines, an interactive winner's screen, and features less game modes than standard Multiplayer lobbies, but boasts a more exclusive and truly skill-based gameplay that revolves around superior strategy, positioning, and team communications over seemingly random engagements.

It is unknown at this time if any weapons or cosmetics will be banned upon full release, but this remains to be unseen.

The current available game modes are Control Points and King of the Hill with a very limited number of maps at the moment.

The game mode currently supports 6v6. 9v9 is shown in the options, but is unusable.

Stress Test

The competitive beta is available to premium players when a stress test event is active. In order to participate, users will need to be in the official group and have the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled. When a stress test is active, a Play Competitive button will appear on the main menu, with a Stress Test badge upon when the test begins.
