Not tradeable?

The tf2items site marks this hat as NOT tradeable... yet this and the trading page claim it is... sources?

Actually, it's both. My parasite is not tradable. It is listed as an achievement item and therefore untradable in my backpack. However, I did get a parasite in a trade yesterday. It seems there are two kinds of parasites. I have no idea why some tradable and other aren't though. Dzjudz 23:22, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
I made a screenshot of my two parasites: [1] Dzjudz 20:47, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Any Parasites that were "found" before the Mann co. update ARE tradable, any found after are not. Captain Craven 22:54, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Not true, my parasite was found the day the game came out and it's not tradable. Moussekateer 00:15, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
My parasite was earned in July, and is not tradable, however, I have begun to wonder if this happened during an update, which may have caused owners who still owned their parasite to have their parasites become untradable, whereas those that had already been traded did not become undtradable. I have no proof of this though, and it is possible that it is purely random. Edit: forgot to sign. Ninjaa003 09:23, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
It's no longer tradable. MR SLIN 09:32, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Should a note be added to the Previous Changes section of the article to note when this hat's trading status was changed? -- Flash 09:29, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I edited the article and specified that the hat can be traded in some instances; I obtained one yesterday through a trade, and subsequently traded it to someone else. ButteredToast 16:09, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Captain craven, his idea sounds the most fisable other than just "Its a bug" (Get it a Bug?).Zombine45 03:24, 8 August 2011 (PDT)

Does this hat actually exist?

Has Valve actually stated that this will be in the game, or is this just another unfounded SPUF fantasy? I can't find any info saying that they will include it in TF2, just the little achievement icon. Goose511th 22:56, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Hat Trick: Complete 2 co-op missions online. Earns a Team Fortress 2 parasite hat. -- En Ex (talk) 23:11, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Ahh, thanks! Reading the achievement description might have helped :P Goose511th 23:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
TF2 hasn't actually been updated to include the hat yet. I for one would avoid getting the achievement until the Alien Swarm hat is actually in place. HasturHasturHastur 23:50, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
No need to avoid it. It will be awarded appropriately when it's implemented. -- En Ex (talk) 23:51, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Where did you hear this from? --Hobbes348 23:54, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm just looking at the TF2 update history - There haven't been any updates as of 8:00 Eastern Standard Time. Maybe it's just my hat-realted paranoia, but I'd rather hold off on getting the achievement until the item actually exists within the TF2 files before trying to get it. HasturHasturHastur 00:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

What I'm saying is getting it now or later won't make a difference. -- En Ex (talk) 00:04, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay, so it's just hat-related paranoia on my part, then. Good to hear. HasturHasturHastur 00:07, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

So, is this little guy jiggleboned? I haven't got it yet. -- OluapPlayer (t) Howdy, pardner! 01:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

I took a quick look at it in HLMV, it seems the 'tail' is indeed jiggleboned.--RJackson 01:27, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
The 'top' is jigglebonned too. Dunno how to say it... Its back? -- Vi3trice (talk) 01:47, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
That's good. And also, it's gonna be hard to find a good quote for this one. -- OluapPlayer (t) Howdy, pardner! 01:31, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
I suggest "We make good team!", but that was just something I thought was cute when I taunted I a Heavy. Anyway, this hat is only level 20. That should be fixed in the loadout stats.SilverHammer 01:33, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

You forgot to update the template parameters to support the head humper :[ -- Nystus 01:42, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

just thought i'd mention that the pictured heavy....well that isn't how the hat looks on that class in game... -- Hyenadip

I don't have the hat yet, and that's how it's placed in HLMV. It doesn't even have a unique version for each class, it's in the all_class folder. -- Vi3trice (talk) 02:46, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
if you like i could take some screen shots and you could just possibly wing it? each class has it's unique post too haha Hyenadip
Yeah, Scout has his on backwards, Pyros clamps the side of it's face, Spy's is just elegantly clipped on. Is a screenshot neccessary? Or what about that video that's floating around? -- SilverHammer
We have standards. -- Vi3trice (talk) 03:09, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh god, now I know why. That little hat model has animations of its own. God they go pretty far just for a little parasite... -- Vi3trice (talk) 13:53, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Possible Trivia Bit

'This is the second hat that requires you to play/pre-order a Valve-related game, and the third hat involving another game entirely', or something along those lines. Über Spycrab 01:40, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Do we really need to document who finds a hat first?

"The earliest report of finding the hat can be found here."

I don't think we need to document that... -KazooieBanjo 02:20, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Er, that's just an achievement linked hat, not the Golden Wrench... Whose idea is that to document the first hat? The guy who made the thread? -- Vi3trice (talk) 02:37, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
According to the history of the page, yes it was. -KazooieBanjo 02:38, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

A Strange Thing...

I know its from a different game, but is it me, or it looks like an evolved tyrannus? OllyTheMann 05:59, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

It would be pretty cool if the whole "Brain Slug Gets Hats" thing comes to fruition, so that the Tyrannus can wear its own little Parasite Hat.

Hat Trick

You don't even need to play the co-op games, per se... I ended up spectating my first "game" and got the achievement once I played the second one. Seems like as long as the game you're in is completed, whether you're actually playing or just watching, will count toward the achievement. Not that it's hard playing 2 games to begin with... -- Vi3trice (talk) 13:58, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Class gallery

Apparently all the classes wear it in different fashions. Vi3, can you get a gallery of all the classes up? Kthx. -- Smashman... (ts) 14:03, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

That... will take a while. The parasite works differently and it's a mess in HLMV. Just saying. -- Vi3trice (talk) 14:11, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Done. -- Vi3trice (talk) 18:15, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Two achievements icons

It's minor, but the "Hat Trick" achievement icon in the game is not the same that the one displayed here and on Steam. (here's the other one.) Maybe we can change? (And sorry for the engrish) --SLBros 18:24, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Look again. -- Vi3trice (talk) 18:28, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Kukri Taunt

I just want to point out that the Sniper will remove the hat when doing the Kukri/Tribalman's shiv taunt. PlutoniuM 23:36, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

I noticed this too, I added a line to Trivia about it.--Wackoweasel 01:55, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hurr durr, Soldier be trollin

If you actually taunt with Shovel/Pain Train, Soldier will do his usual headbashing... on a Parasite. Fun enough, looks like he's fighting with alien on his head :O Ostrowiak 16:57, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Parasite's alive

Think it's worth mentioning in the trivia that the parasite bleeds when you shoot at it? It's not as noticeable when they're on your head, since you bleed, but if you shoot one that's on the ground, they do bleed their own blood. SilverHammer 08:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Yep, go ahead and add it. --Firestorm  User Firestorm Nuke Sig.jpg 20:09, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I've done some work with modelling/skinning myself, and think this may be due to using the "Flesh" surface prop setting, which also affects sound effects when an object is hit. I'm not certain, but I will check into this by taking one of my custom hats and using the "Flesh" surface prop setting, rather than "Cloth", etc. Ninjaa003 09:27, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

During the time when it freezeframes on the person that killed you...

If you are decapitated and the Alien Swam Parasite hat is in the scene, it'll say, "Your head!" and point to the parasite, and I believe your head disapears as well. --ANormalUsername 17:00, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

I believe it does this with every hat, actually. Very strange. Über Spycrab 14:16, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Can You Recieve Multiple Alien Parasites?

I was wondering if I trade my current Alien Parasite hat, then delete my local Alien Swarm content and get the achievement again, can i get infinite Alien Parasite hats?

Achievements are saved on Steam Cloud, so that wouldn't work. This is also not a forum for discussing these things Balladofwindfishes 20:31, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Texture was changed slightly on Halloween

The Parasite is now more bright and lacks the skin texture it had before. The texture seems to have changed slightly, probably in preparation to make it paintable. Maybe we should change the image to reflect its new appearence Balladofwindfishes 20:30, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

It seems it DOES contain the data to be painted now, as a friend has checked for me recently and discovered it does infact have multiple colours. here's a picture of it painted Deep commitment to purple HyenaDip 21:37, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
If it can be painted, then green paint is going to be waist-full. But the other paints will look awesome on the little guy!
M-NINJA 21:45, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Looks like i was right all along omg rainbow parasites HyenaDip 17:20, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Tail is jiggleboned now?

Was running around with newly painted parasite as a Scout (painted it black, renamed it "Poison Headcrab") and I noticed the tail was bouncing around. IIRC, the tail was stiff the last time I had it equipped (before the latest update). I didn't see anything in the patch notes about this, so I'm wondering if the jiggleboned tail is a new addition. 404 User Not Found 15:37, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

I noticed this too today. The tail is definitely jiggleboned.(nanosheep_inc) 03:19, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
It always has been jiggleboned. --Vaught 03:21, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
The tail has been jiggleboned since the hat's release, along with its spine. -- Alex2539 - (talk | contribs) -- 03:26, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

How to get Alien Swarm Parasite without online games available

I am a TF2 fanatic and played the game only to get the parasite, and ended up playing long after that.

To get the parasite you need to complete 2 co-op mission online!

If you also have problems finding online games to achieve this objective, the following will help you:

Make sure that developer console is activated (Options -> Keyboard/Mouse).

Create a online game and once in the lobby: press ~ to enter console. Since one player cannot play alone, add bots to Alien Swarm this way:

cl_selectm (num) (slot)

or to deselect:

cl_dselectm (num)

To explain:

(num) is a number 0 to 7 that presents the marine from top left to bottom righton the marine selection screen

(slot) is a value 0 to 3 for position in team, I use -1 for next slot

Example: cl_selectm 6 -1

When you exit the console, the bots will be visible and you can select their loadout and start then mission. Remember that F1 to F4 can swop control to them for more advanced actions like distributing ammunitions or mass healing. With less than 4 players you will have a better chance to get more experience, but start off with 4.

Please remember to sign your comments. Also, thanks for the information, but it is already clearly stated in the article how this hat is obtained. -- En Ex (talk) 09:48, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Too bad there isn't a guide for the ones who can't run the game because of unknown reasons*me is included in that case*Vulturas 09:49, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Vintage Parasite?

i saw some guy on tf2 items with an alien swarm parasite that was vintage. how do they get a vintage.just like with maxs severed head and bills hat and lumbricus lid. how they become vintage? ~awesomesauce~ 01:43, 28 January 2011 (UTC)AWESOMESAUCE

Most of the "Vintage" promotional items (excluding the Lugermorph) became Vintage due to a glitch. Esquilax 01:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
First, new topics go at the bottom. Second, you sign with just ~~~~. And yes it's the same way as the promo items, no different. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 01:46, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
