The Homewrecker

Pyro's Homewrecker deals extra damage to buildings. Do you think the robots will count as buildings? NeoSlith 22:52, 13 August 2012 (PDT)
Maybe the giant ones Tristan Lorius Killicon rocket launcher.png You 23:23, 13 August 2012 (PDT)
Nope. Then Neon Annihilator and Maul need to count too. User Ravecrib9t4 Signature Logo.JPG TNS 00:47, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Ideas and Assumptions

Due to the fact that the GRA Team are robots, I assume that fire will deal a lesser effect upon them and that weapons that deal bleeding damage (Flying Guillotine, Boston Basher, Three-Rune Blade, Wrap Assassin, Southern Hospitality & Tribalman's Shiv) are a complete con to this battle.

Also, I think Pyro, Sniper and Spy (Maybe just Sniper & Spy) wouldn't excel at horde battles. Pyro for the reason that his flames & airblasting with not be as effective, Sniper for the reason that he not be able to withstand most situations where he may be flooded and pinned down, and Spy for the reason that his backstabs MAY not be the same.

Perhaps weapons that are electric-based are more effective then, like the Sapper (with a recharge timer, of course), Short Circuit, Neon Annihilator, and MAYBE Powerjack (one of its components is a car battery). But for laser-based weapons (Cow Mangler 5000, Righteous Bison, Manmelter and Pomson 6000, MAYBE Phlogistinator and Machina), I'm not sure.

Since they're robots, I think Mad Milk, Jarate and Sydney Sleeper, may affect them into a short circuit. They are liquid and water-like anyway.

Anyway, these is my thought about this update. I'll probably edit this when I change my thoughts. { <3 SpriteFan3 © } 23:32, 13 August 2012 (PDT)

well, the bleed would still work, coolant pipes and such, the rest, i don't know Tristan Lorius Killicon rocket launcher.png You 16:20, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

New icon for the Mann vs. Machine Update

Hey guys. The current icon for the MvM update is the 'm' in machine from the header, can I suggest changing it to the head of the Heavy Robot? It seems more appropriate and more centered on the robots. (Looks cooler too :D)

Thanks! Blastburnite 07:43, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

That's what we all wanted, but unfortunately we don't yet have access to the robot models. The M will do until then, at which point we plan to replace it. dendodge 08:20, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Pages for the special robots

Just thinking, that would it be a good idea to make a page for each of the special robots? (or just make 1 page that covers them all) --Neg 08:14, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

When they come out. – Smashman (talk) 08:18, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

"Upgradeable Abilities"; also, intro sentence to Day 1 sounds a bit choppy.

The main page of the Mann Vs. Machine update states clearly in the first paragraph that you can take breaks from the hordes to upgrade your abilities. I'm thinking this is a major fact that we should include somewhere on this page. Also, this may effect how weapons work against the robots, meaning that all this speculation about what classes will be best, what weapons, etc. is all a bit... Well speculative.

Also, the first sentence: "Day 1 revealed a new co-op game mode in which a team of six players fights a horde of bots, as well as a new map, Mannworks, and multiple special classes of robots introduced for the new mode. It also revealed the trailer for the mode." It sounds a bit choppy; I changed the plural, which used to be "teams of six players", to a singular, to make it clearer that it is only ONE team of six players. I am also about to change "horde" to "hordes", as the main page of the update states that there will be a wave system. Perhaps we should split the intro sentence to the Wiki into two? To make it clearer that you're NOT fighting a map. Aperture Kills 09:09, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Edit: Waves are not hordes, waves can make up a horde. Just re-read the main page, I will not edit that part of the intro sentence. Aperture Kills 09:09, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
It sounds like the first part belong on Mann vs. Machine (game mode), rather than here. Speculation should definitely stay away, but a community strategy guide would obviously be nice once the update is actually released. The commas split the sentence up such that reading it as fighting a map would be mis-reading it, but I can see how it could confuse people. I'll see what I can do about changing it. dendodge 01:50, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Robots

I saw robots skins in steam workshop 1 month ago. Are Valve used it? reumepalex 08:46, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

No. – Smashman (talk) 08:47, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
No, they're completely different models, and MvM was already in the works before those models were posted. dendodge 01:50, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Repair Node Debut?

As you may or may not remember, the Repair Node was going to be a replacement for a build slot for the Engineer. It would allow him to leave his buildings unattended and repair them automatically. The idea Valve played with was replacing the Teleporters for it; however, it proved to be much less useful than a being able to bring your team to the front lines. However, I believe that the Robo-neers will use these Repair Nodes to keep all nearby robots repaired within a limited range. NeoSlith 08:54, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Interesting... I really hope they'd implement this, but I wonder if robo engies really exist. Cuz as far as I know, its a pain in the arse to write a good AI script for building stuff in every single game. Also, if robo engies do exist, they'd prolly just walk around wrenching the other robots instead of building a stationary healing building. I personally dont think the robots would fall back to heal.Painted Alien Swarm Parasite 803020.png NGINFERNOPainted Alien Swarm Parasite 256D8D.png 02:09, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

I have a feeling the robots will just do the typical horde thing of advancing without caring if they get destroyed. It's not like there aren't enough of them. But this is all speculation, and that kind of thing is that-a-way ;) dendodge 09:08, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Just to clear this up a bit and put something out there: Medic bots heal robots, and the bomb carrier already has a defensive buff for surrounding bots. Aperture Kills 09:12, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Of course, but that's a single target. The node would help repair many robots at once so long as they're close enough to it, not just adjacent. NeoSlith 09:47, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
I think repair node will not add to the game like valve said "WILL NEVER WORK". User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) - (contributions) 10:07, 14 August 2012 (PDT)
The Node would never work for human players since it breaks the Engineer at the cost of Teleporters. If these Robo Mercs don't use teleporters, then it could totally be a viable option. But of course, this is pure speculation. We'll have to wait and see. NeoSlith 14:33, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Day 3 Bounty and/or Upgrades Hinted?

I know the answers will be given tonight, but look closely at the Day 2 Armory. I've noticed that in the top left hand corner next to the Sentry Minigun is a bear trap, and the hand grenades are everywhere. Recall that there is currently no use of a bear trap at all, and there is no grenade of that model. I recall this Defensive Engie Submission[1] on the Workshop, and the Soldier in the Mann Vs. Machine video is holding a grenade, ready to apparently throw it. Also, the grenades on the page are green, unlike any others. Do you think Valve is holding off on releasing these details until tonight? I would like to think so. FenixChief 04:03, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

Go to Steam Users' Forums. Suggestion and Advice should go there, not the wiki. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) - (contributions) 11:46, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

Not Impressed

This is just my opinion, so just a heads up.

I think the fact that you are paying for this stuff and that there is only new maps and no any other things (weapons) kind of bugs me out. We are already paying $20 for hats, and all other games Valve made that they are getting payed for is just rubbish. Just make everything free for the Mann vs Machine update, Valve.

Mystery Bot?

Based on the photo released on Day 1, combined with information gleaned from the achievements on Day 3, I think it's pretty safe to say that the Mystery Robot is 'The Tank' - a square-ish, tread-bound machine which looks more like a vehicle, unlike the other robots that bear passing resemblance to the nine classes. I assume, based on its name, that it's both slow and very heavily armoured, but that's just conjecture on my part. - MistahFixIt 18:08, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

Hilarious Glitch

So since I can't get into the game online, I made a LAN server to try it out on my own. Well, the game glitched after the bomb went off and continued the round. I killed the rest of the Robo-Scouts and the next round started. However, it turned out that the blast zone stayed active killing everything that touched it, including the robots. They couldn't plant the bomb for two rounds and I was off to do whatever.NeoSlith 21:32, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

Upgrades?

Miss Pauling says that the robots run on money and that you can keep whatever drops. These monetary drops will be used to purchase upgrades to use during gameplay I suppose? The TF2 site in the MvM page it says "Take advantage of breaks between waves to upgrade your abilities and weapons." In the comic, Hale says that they'll still have to pay for the weapons, and I don't think Valve is so evil to make us pay to play this new game mode. But this is just speculation on my part, we'll see in the next two days. I'm aware I made this comment in the comic A Fate Worse Than Chess but it's most relevant here, I believe. NeoSlith 10:09, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

Called it. NeoSlith 19:05, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

What I don't understand is when you receive the Canteen. It says on the Canteen page that you receive it after completing your Mann vs Machine mission. Is this after you complete the Mann vs machine tutorial mission? Is this after you defeat the first wave? When you finish your first Mann vs Machine game? Could someone make this clearer? GaryGibbon 12:35, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

We don't know what "mission" means yet. That's the wording on the update page. My guess would be your first complete game. dendodge 12:37, 15 August 2012 (PDT)

Move everything about the gamemode over here?

Since the update is already out and all, perhaps we should move the gameplay stuff like special bots, canteens and upgrades over to this page?Painted Alien Swarm Parasite 803020.png NGINFERNOPainted Alien Swarm Parasite 256D8D.png 05:04, 16 August 2012 (PDT)

Regarding robot types and such

At some point in the future the "special robots" link needs to be changed, since it just leads to the list on the update page of announced special robots. There are several not mentioned in the update (giant pyro, major league scout, rapid-fire demo, overcharge soldier, and some variation of the heavy wearing the GRU, off the top of my head). A separate page is probably in order for this (and I'm no good at the setting up part, but I can contribute) Rycluse 16:04, 17 August 2012 (PDT)

  • One question also needs to be answered, as I've to undergo a Tour of Duty. Do Engineer robots ever appear (I've never seen them on community servers)? If not, we may need to make a note that these types of robots never appear. —WhosAsking 06:18, 17 August 2012 (PDT)
  • I've never seen those either. The head for robo-engineers was seen in the Source Filmmaker files like all the others. I've yet to see a robo-engineer in any of my games Rycluse 16:04, 17 August 2012 (PDT)

Auto-Balance problems

In some servers, robots can be placed in red team. And they do nothing, but they still respawn on the same place as the blu robots. They show models and animations. Although they do nothing, but can block enemy passages by jumping on them. --Gabrielwoj 06:26, 18 August 2012 (PDT)

Canteens + Bot Types + Misc Merges in MvM?

I'd do it myself but I'd like some help/verification for this. We should push the canteens into this section as it's a game-mode only feature, along with the bot types and upgrades in this mode. on a side-note, someone should check if the jumpers do damage in this mode since there's a damage bonus upgrade on them - I believe it's a bug.

Any thoughts? MikalMirkas 23:14, 20 August 2012 (PDT)

Bots and MvM

Do bots (tf_bot_add) work as defenders on MvM? Somebody1212 09:43, 29 August 2012 (PDT)

Yes they do. But they do not help with killing robots, they just stand in spawn even if you do nav_generate. Noob3r64 13:11, 11 October 2012 (PDT)

Weapon Upgrades

I didn't know where else to post this but I think the articles for all weapons should now also include their MvM upgrade ability information. I'm aware that the best way to have this done would be to do it myself but I figured that A) I should see what the community says before I waste my time and B) I don't have every weapon to check them all out. Gold 02:15, 13 September 2012 (PDT)

Disregard that- I just found the Upgrade Station page... sorry. (Although I do think there should be a link to it on the weapon pages or something like that) Gold 02:19, 13 September 2012 (PDT)

Mann versus Machine ideas

Have you ever tried to think of new mechanical menaces that run on money? Here's a few of my ideas, feel free to coment on them: •Attack VTOL's: a new type of enemy that will come into battle, supporting the bomb carrier, using a rapid fire minigun in front, rockets on the wings. Shoot the rotors and you will have a 100% crit. They will also drop bombs on sentry guns. •Transport VTOLs: slow, but do not underestimate them because these big boys will drop troops behind the frontline to flank you. •Cargo VTOLs: they appear to drop a bomb in the hatch and also drop an upgrade satchel (a turret that builds rapidly on the top of the tank) •G.M.E (Giant Mechanical Engineer): a robot engineer will come into the battlefield with a giant robot mech armed with a deflector minigun on one arm as for the other arm is used for melee with a rocket launcher on it's shoulder. •Robot engineer: everyone was really disapointed for not seeing a robot engy on the field. Reason: there was no.place for it... but now there is! These pesky little machines will act as support, using their wrench to repair the tank and giant robots. •Upgraded tank: when the upgrade satchel was sucesfull deployed on a tank, and the turret has built itself, the now fuly upgraded tank will now eliminate any opposing threat, main target: sentries. What ideas do you people suggest? Sliglover 09:04, 25 November 2012 (PST)

This would be more suited to the Steam forums. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 09:19, 25 November 2012 (PST)

Many thanks engineer I shall post my ideas there Sliglover 09:28, 25 November 2012 (PST)

"Upgraded Sniper Rifle and Huntsman cause explosive headshots. "

This is actually not true for the Huntsman. No such upgrade for that weapon exists.

addendum: also adding what "explosive headshots" actually do since it's not exactly clear here. JoeyTheDuck 17:07, 14 May 2013 (PDT)

Janelled?

When an Engineer allows a Sentry Buster to kill other teammates, this is commonly referred to as being "Janelled."

Should this be inside the entry under "Sentry Busters"? And can anyone confirm and clarify the term "Janelled" as I've never heard this being used in any MvM games I have participated in. This feels more like colloquial flavour text than actual hard-fact informative knowledge.

a.k.a afoolishfool (talk) 10:19, 26 August 2013 (PDT)

I have also never heard this term used, so I'm removing it from the page. Someone can re-add it if they have a legitimate source. Dr. McKay (talk) 00:15, 23 November 2013 (PST)

Retry Command Bug?

Based on a past experience which I do not really feel like repeating, using the 'retry' command on a Mann-Up server will cause you to rejoin the game, but you will not receive loot upon completing the mission, and your ticket will not be consumed, just as if you were repeating a mission on an incomplete tour. Moreover, you will not be able to view the number of tours of any players on the scoreboard, and your own tours will always appear blank on other players' scoreboards. Essentially, it seems as though you're treated as if you're playing Boot Camp on a Mann Up server.

Can anyone confirm this?

MvM community strategy?

Most players that play MvM at first usually get kicked(especially in Mann up). To learn they either learn by playing and watching at others or reading guides at Steam Community. But it's not so easy to find exactly what you need there, so i suggest to create MvM strategy for each class with objectives, features and weapons for them. Noobquire (talk) 03:53, 16 April 2015 (PDT)

Already exists Here. Ashes (talk) 05:23, 16 April 2015 (PDT)
In my opinion, these strategies are useless (mvm, map and all), becuz if you read what you have to do, does not have the "surprise".. "wow good way to do this", "now i can kill that player very easy" or etc. I know about the "tour elitism", i'm active mvm player, but this is not a strategy, i'ts the way for to not get 2 hours failing the same mission. Note: Almost no one reads the wiki strategies. -Tark (talk) 07:13, 16 April 2015 (PDT)
Thank you, but it is really hard to find it for players. Added this strategy to "See also". Noobquire (talk) 09:48, 16 April 2015 (PDT)
