Some Logic Please
First off, since some pieces of the Tf2 back-story are still unknown, You can't just affirm those theories already.

I mean, It says that there's only 9 mercenaries of each team fighting for a single dessert, I don't think this is right, Yes, zepheniah mann left that land to their sons, but, since that land (Badlands) only contains 2fort, pipeline, well, badwater, cp_badlands, gravelpit, dustbowl and thunder mountain, It has no logic.

Why? Because there are WAY more maps than those, steel, granary, doublecross, turbine, etc. and I sincerely don't think those are located in badlands, because the map was shown on the engineer update only containing those I mentioned before, and because there is a map actually located in china (Kong king).

I know that the setting isn't supposed to have a lot of logic, but the way you guys see it... well, i has entirely no logic.

Since Valve wants the game-play to be comparable with the setting, you can't just say that the gravel wars is only on badlands, since they even say that both BLU and RED owns the half of the world governments, so is impossible they only fight for badlands.

I don't even know how the real setting is, But since TF2 refers players as part of the story as mercenaries i think the "Gravel Wars" is worldwide, not only in america, and not only in badlands (badlands as the main place of the events of course), and the players are the mercenaries, so not only 9.

See for yourself: http://puu.sh/14jJ7

This Theory isn't perfect, but has way more logic. <span style="font-size:13px;line-height:16px;font-family:TF2 Build;sans-serif;" class="qua_vintage">Mr GcCc</span> 20:47, 11 September 2012 (PDT)

No. There are only two teams of 9 mercs each, who move around from base to base while the previous battlefield is being repaired (more on that further down). It's explicitely stated that the Administrator hired nine mercenaries for the Gravel Wars. (The following bit is my personal speculation, but here you go: The Administrator used the respawn machine to clone their bodies along with their memories to create nine counterparts. That's why they're identical in appearance, memories and behaviour.)

You have to understand the difference between the in-game universe lore and the gameplay (such as gameplay having no friendly fire and characters from the same team are able to phase through each other and through their Engineer's buildings.) Those are examples of gameplay artifacts, which are not "real" inside the TF2 universe. Same with maps that were added to the game later; the original maps are all situated in the Badlands. The map koth_King was added as part of a promo crossover with the game Sleeping Dogs. Other maps are made by fan mapmakers. What's so complicated about the idea that BLU and RED companies bought up more land somewhere outside the Badlands, anyway? The vast fortune of the Mann brothers cannot be based on that useless gravel alone.

The mercs have distinct personalities, they have backgrounds, some of them have names we know, and they refer to repeatedly killing each other and being killed over and over again in both their voice lines and in the comics (i.e. Spy in the Shadow Boxers comic). These are always the same nine men, literally fighting themselves when killing their counterparts. If there was no respawn, the Meet the Team videos and Meet the Director comic would be useless because the characters they show to us would have died gruesomely shortly after first setting foot on the battlefield and the game would only feaure replaceable nameless mooks. In that case, what would be the point of establishing any character history and personality for the mercs? No. There are the same nine men, being reborn over and over, existing twice.

Remember, that war over useless gravel and inherited real estate in the Badlands is a fake, a joke; only Blutarch and Redmond don't know they're being played. The war between RED and BLU is supposed to be an everlasting stalemate to transfer money from Blutarch and Redmond's companies to Mann Co. and to keep the Administrator in power. The bases are stages to stage a fake war on. They all outfitted with surveillance cameras and loudspeakers operated and monitored by the Administrator alone, as we've seen in Meet the Director and other comics. If there were hundreds or thousands of mercs fighting a real war for RED and BLU in numerous bases at the same time, how would she be able to keep an eye on thousands of men at the same time, 24/7? Presumably the bases have to be repaired on a regular basisafter  every time the fighting mercs have trashed the place.

It has also been established that the mercs are being paid handsomely: In the WAR! update comic, the RED Demoman tells his mother that he "made five million dollars last year". In the Bombonomicon comic which accompanied the Halloween 2011 event, the flustered Heavy hands 7.000 dollar in cash to the crying child. If there were thousands of mercs, the Administrator would never be able to afford that. These aren't conscripted and badly paid soldiers. These are professionals who get days off from fighting to visit their elderly mother or go to Vegas and visit gun shows...

We know from Loose Canon comic that Dell Connagher was first hired as an engineer by BLU in 1950 and given his grandfather's notes to repair Blutarch's longevity machine. In the time between 1950 and 1968 he presumably built an improved model, the respawn, for Helen the Administrator, just as Radigan Connagher was persuaded to build two longevity machines, one for both Blutarch and Redmond each, by the Administrator's predecessor (grandmother?), so that the conflict could last forever.

So the only worthwhile speculation is the question, which mercs are the originals and which the respawn clones? It's presumably not clear-cut along team lines, otherwise the BLU team would be the originals and RED team the clones. BLU Engineer is Radigan Connagher's grandson and was hired way before the other mercs, so he must be an original. BLU Scout is also a contender, because we know he has a mother and brothers; we've seen photos of BLU Scout's mother in Meet the Spy. For the RED Scout, we've never seen proof that he has a mother, merely that he thinks he has one. Same photographic evidence exists for the parents of RED Sniper. And we've met RED Demoman's mother in the WAR! comic and in Ring of Fired, part 1. RED Heavy might also be the original, as he is Valve's representation character for Team Fortress 2. Same goes for RED Medic, who owns the bloodstained dove which fits the Archimedes item description, while BLU Medic owns a clean white dove. --Knusperfrosch (talk) 09:19, 29 August 2013 (PDT)

Boogaloo not canon
As stated by Valve's Andrew Wilson in his Kritzkast interview, the Boogaloo comic and plot points introduced within it (hat wars, pomeranian president, future Engineer and Pyro) aren't canon. However, the comic is considered an AU spin-off by Valve. I propose removing the Boogaloo events from the canon timeline and give it its own timeline section. == Errors and omissions in the Storyline page's timeline==

Omission:<br />

1950: Dell Connagher, the man later known as BLU Engineer, is hired by Blutarch Mann and given his grandfather Radigan Connagher's research notes, which Blutarch stole out of Radigan's grave. (Quote: "I dug up your grandfather and looted his corpse.) Dell is tasked with repairing Blutarch's Life Extender machine.

(Source: Loose Canon comic, page 11)

Error:<br />

All the current entries for 1971, starting with "Gray Mann assassinates Redmond and Blutarch Mann to gain control of their respective corporations. This also marks the end of The Gravel War." should be re-dated to the corresponding dates in 1972.

The entries for 1972 must similarly be be re-dated to 1973.

Reason: In the Blood Brothers comic, the three sons Blutarch, Redmond and Gray Mann are born in 1922. In the storyline set in the game's present time, Gray Mann states that its now 150 years later before he assassinates his twin brothers. (Quote: "For a hundred and fifty years I have watched you squander my father's fortune.")

Note: Some people might argue this must mean that the Robot War is set in the year 2000, by starting the 150 year count in 1850 instead when Blutarch and Redmond inherited the Badlands after Zepheniah Mann's death. But that would not fit the fact that in the comics the clothing and hairstyles and cars we see are still 1970s style, not modern day. Also, a thirty year time gap would be hard to explain, not to mention that neither the mercenaries nor Helen or Miss Pauling have suddenly aged thirty years.

The assassination of the Mann brothers, end of Gravel War, collapse of BLU and RED companies, the start of the Robot War, the Halloween events with Merasmus, and the unveiling of the Mecha Engineer all happen in 1972.

Gray Mann's fake surrender and take-over of Mann Co. and the events of the Ring of Fired, part 1 comic logically then happen in 1973.

This way Valve's real-world update dates from 2012 correspond to in-game counterpart events in 1972, and the 2013 dates to 1973 (and the alternate reality dates given in the Robotic Boogaloo comic.) --Knusperfrosch (talk) 10:07, 29 August 2013 (PDT)

In the text chapters, the year of the beginning of the Robot War is already correctly given as 1972. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to edit the entries in the Detailed Timeline table, or I would do it myself. Can someone with more experience please do that? Thanks. --Knusperfrosch (talk) 10:11, 29 August 2013 (PDT)

:Ring of Fired takes place in 1972. Look at the name boards for Scout and Spy in the newspaper. Under their serial numbers it reads 9 7 72. Cheesepopcorn(stuff) 19:57, 13 September 2013 (PDT)

In my opinion, I believe Team Fortress Comics may take place in late February 1973, because even though Scout and Spy's mugshots say September 1972, mugshots are always taken right after the arrest, not before an execution. Soldier did break Scout's arms in September '72, but I guess his healed arms on the mugshot would then be a continuity error. Not to mention, Scout and Spy are also wearing their old mercenary clothes, not prison jumpsuits in the mugshots. --Old martins (talk) 06:01, 14 April 2014 (PDT)

Adding TFC to the Storyline page?
Hello, I'm new to the Wikia and I read 'A Cold Day In Hell' around the time the comic was released. In the comic its revealed that TFC does take place in the TF2 universe/timeline. And so I'm kind of wondering, should we add TFC to the storyline page? The objectives of the changes here are to be more encyclopedic, collecting the content for the main story threads spread over multiple issues into short, specific sections linked to the relevant publication articles, and eliminate large sections of synopses that belong in the individual comic articles. Almost the entirety of the text under "Finding Heavy" had nothing to do with any of the storylines.  Most details of transitional stories like Soldier Pyro's and Scouts adventures in the snow, while entertaining, often do little too advanced the main storylines other than possible character development (this is not the character development article). Let the main synopsis for each comic be the place for simple repetition of the content.

The use of inline markup quotes rather than the Template:Quotation is by design; the template would disrupt the layout too much. Mikado282 (talk) 20:36, 3 May 2017 (PDT)

According to the dream version of the Administrator, Miss Pauling has been working for her for 10 years (which would be 1962, I presume). Considering that this is Pauling's imagination, it's probably a reliable source for how long she has been in Helen's service. This fact should probably also be added to Miss Pauling's page.
