Tournament mode is a game mode released in the February 28, 2008 Patch. It allows for the creation of custom teams for competitive matches. It is applicable to all existing game modes, much like Highlander and Medieval Mode.

Effects

Tournament mode can be enabled with the server variable mp_tournament. When enabled, tournament mode creates a banner at the top of the HUD with a tally of each team's points. In addition, a user interface is present for naming teams. Pressing f4 in tournament mode allows players to change the name of their team (which appears at the top of the player list).

The purpose of tournament mode is to keep track of teams of competive players. As such, once all players have chosen and organised their teams, players can press the ready button. Teams can have an effectively unlimited number of players per team, as there is no team player limit. Once both teams are in 'ready mode' the game will begin. In tournament mode teams are maintained between rounds, and autobalancing is disabled. There is server variable that can limit the number of each class per team in tournament mode, allowing for a Highlander style forced mixing of classes on each team.

Tournament mode is most often used on competitive servers, and is rarely seen on public servers.
