Un buon numero di termini non ufficiali è in uso nel gioco. Questo glossario dei termini dei giocatori elenca alcuni tra i tanti termini comuni che il giocatore potrebbe incontrare:

Terminologia generale

2ez
Abbreviazione per "too easy", (troppo facile in italiano)

3 starred
Un contratto riscattato con tutti e tre gli obiettivi completati, anziché solo uno o due.

3CP / 4CP / 5CP
Abbreviazione per "3-control point", "4-control point" o "5-control point". Si riferisce ad una mappa con Punti di controllo in cui ci sono tre, quattro o cinque punti di controllo in totale.

A

Achievement server / achievement map
Un server o una mappa dedicati a facilitare i giocatori a completare gli Obiettivi senza occupare o interferire con le partite in cui gli altri giocatori giocano seguendo gli obiettivi della mappa.​ Questi server permettono ai giocatori di affinare le loro tecniche o semplicemente socializzare senza interferire con partite serie (vedigriefing). Caratteristiche comuni di achievement servers includono:
  • Brevi tempi di respawn e Spawn collocati gli uni vicino agli altri per incoraggiare combattimenti continui.​
  • Stanze a protezione diretta per cooperare senza interferenze.
  • Meccanismi per automaticamente posizionare Bot o giocatori che fanno idling come bersagli per gli Obiettivi o Livellare​.​
  • Enigmi, labirinti, porte nascoste e stanze segrete per intrattenere i giocatori.​
  • Aree specializzate per specifiche attività ricreative come la boxe, calcio e Pyro tennis.

Airshot / aerial

Un proiettile che colpisce l'opponente che si trova a mezz'aria, di solito risultato di un rimbalzo esplosivo.
ADS
Acronimo per "Aiming down sights" ("Mirare verso il basso"). In TF2 è di solito usato per riferirsi ai giocatori che giocano il Cecchino e che guardano attraverso il loro cannocchiale da puntamento; il corrispettivo verbo è detto "ADSing"
Add Up
Un termine da chat testuale, un metodo per sfidare qualcuno ad un duello MGE.
AFK
Acronimo per "Away From Keyboard" ("Lontano Dalla Tastiera"). È usato per riferirsi a qualcuno che non si trova al suo computer per qualche motivo oppure sta facendo idling.
Airblast
Colpo d'aria compressa.
Usato anche in modo derisorio riferendosi ad Offblast, mappa nella quale il potenziale di uccisione del colpo d'aria compressa è più alto del normale.

Account alternativo / alt
Di solito si riferisce al secondo account di Steam che può essere usato per una varietà di scopi, come nascondere la propria identità.
Amby
Può riferirsi a
  • L'arma Ambasciatore.
  • Un termine per i giocatori Spia che usano molto l'Ambasciatore, se non esclusivamente quell'arma.
Amputation Station
Un Medico che sta fermo in un posto ed esegue la provocazione dell'Amputatore.
Anger/Anger Sniper
Un termine per il Cecchino, che indossa il cappello Anger, che si comporta come un Tryhard. Li si vede spesso uccidere giocatori Friendly (amichevoli), provocare dopo un'uccisione, usare bind rudi o di odio e spesso usare la Mano dell'AWParoo un Fucile da Cecchino Ammazzabot.
AoE
Abbreviazione per "area of effect" ("area d'effetto"). Si riferisce ad un'arma che può ferire più giocatori, strutture o altre entità in un'area intorno al proiettile, come i lanciarazzi del Soldato e i lanciagranate del Demolitore.
Aussie
Abbreviazione di un'"arma in Australium".

Autobalance
Articolo principale: Equilibrio automatico
Si riferisce all'essere cambiato da una squadra all'altra grazie al meccanismo del server che ritiene le squadre essere non bilanciate.
Axtinguishare
Un termine colloquiale che descrive il colpo critico che avviene quando un nemico in fiamme viene ucciso dall'Estintascia.

B

Backcappare/ (Fare) backcapping
Conquistare un punto di controllo dietro alla squadra nemica, spesso mentre gli avversari stanno cercando di conquistare un punto di controllo la cui cattura è più lenta. Per esempio, intrufolarsi per andare a conquistare il punto di controllo finale, il quale in varie mappe viene conquistato molto velocemente, mentre la squadra avversaria sta cercando di riconquistare il loro secondo punto.
Bait/ (Fare) Baiting
Letteralmente "Esca", è un termine per indicare l'azione di ingannare un nemico ad attaccare o seguire qualcuno mentre un compagno di squadra s'infila di soppiatto dietro i nemici e li uccide. Un Bait comune può includere adescare un nemico con una Spia o un Piro. I Bait possono anche includere l'ingannare un nemico ad andare verso un'area che infligge danno, per esempio un Ingegnere che inganna qualcuno ad inseguirlo nella sua Torretta o un Demolitore che si fa inseguire per detonare le sue trappole adesive.
Bakestaybed
Un'umoristica parola gergo per dire "backstabbed". Coniata dal creatore di contenuti di TF2 Jerma985.
Battle Engie / Battle Engineer
Un giocatore che gioca come Ingegnere che s'ingaggia nel combattimento in prima linea, piazzando Torrette in posizioni inaspettate e usando la sua arma primaria in modo offensivo. Il Pugno di Ferro è un'arma comune per i Battle Engie grazie alla sua abilità di costruire Mini-Torrette velocemente e ad un basso costo di metallo, ciò però non esclude che potrebbe anche usare la Jag.
Battle Med / Battle Medic
Un Medico che preferisce uccidere i nemici piuttosto che curare i compagni, molto spesso facendo uso della Blutsauger e in alcune occasioni il Giuramento Solenne. I Battle Medic che non uniscono il combattimento alla cura dei compagni, o che sono inutili per la squadra, sono malvisti dai compagni di squadra, dato che solitamente si aspetta che i Medici facciano il loro lavoro come classe di supporto.
Beam
Può riferirsi a:
  • Il fascio curante emesso dalla Pistola medica del Medico.
  • Il raggio dell'UFO su Watergate. L'Annunciatore afferma, "We are in the beam" (Siamo nel raggio") quando un compagno di squadra entra nel fascio di luce dell'UFO per completare l'obbiettivo della mappa. La frase è sinonimo di questa mappa ed è usata come esclamazione di eccitamento all'interno della comunità.
Berd
È un termine per qualunque giocatore che stia indossando una delle teste da uccello. Il termine è principalmente usato in video GMOD o SFM.

Bhopping / bunny hopping
Può riferirsi a:
  • Una tecnica di salto/strafe in aria che aumenta la velocità (in Team Fortress 2 aumenta di poco).
  • Crouching briefly enough to shift the view lower without affecting movement speed.
  • Inginocchiarsi subito dopo aver saltato per raggiungere un posto più in alto o per coprire una distanza maggiore in lunghezza. Questo è spesso utilizzato per il salto razzo, salto con bombe adesive e altre forme di salti esplosivi. Vedi: Saltare.
  • Saltare ripetutamente per confondere la mira dei nemici o per evitare il danno "splash" dalle esplosioni sul pavimento.
  • Saltare al momento giusto quando si atterra per at the right time when hitting the ground to mandare all'aria le meccaniche del gioco. Bind

Birb
È un'alterazione simpatica di Bird, uccello (vedi termine sottostante). Si riferisce circa alla stessa definizione, ma è spesso usato nello specifico per un Grosso che indossa il Pettirosso di Kiev che fa il friendly o lo scemino.
Bird
Può riferirsi a:
Bird Scout
Un'Esploratore che frequentemente adopera le sue abilità di salti aggiuntivi offerte da molte delle sue armi.
Bodyshot
Un colpo di un Cecchino che colpisce il corpo di un giocatore, al posto della sua testa, preferibilmente uccidendolo.

Bodyshotter
Può riferirsi a:
  • Un Cecchino che spara ripetutamente al corpo al posto della testa.
  • La Machina, siccome i Cecchini che usano quest'arma tendono a mirare al corpo rispetto alla testa data la sua capacità di perforare e di ottenere danno aggiuntivo.
Bomb / Bombare
Può riferirsi a:

Bonus ducks
Una famigerata battuta audio detta da Merasmus ogni volta che il giocatore raccoglie una "Paperella Bonus" rara raccolta durante l'Aggiornamento End of the Line. È usata come esclamazione di shock o entusiasmo, specialmente durante qualunque evento relativo a Merasmus come il Carnevale della Carneficina.
Box Spy / Box Trot Spy / box crab
Un giocatore che gioca come Spia che usa la provocazione Box TrotCartone Animato per strategicamente muoversi sul campo di battaglia o per camuffarsi tra gli oggetti ambientali. È possibile per una Box Spy ben nascosta catturare certi obiettivi o evitarne la cattura.

Boxing (fare la boxe)​​
​Gli Heavy che si combattono a vicenda usando solo le armi da mischia.

Buff
Può riferirsi a:

Bully / Bullizzare
Terminologia scherzosa per indicare un giocatore che utilizza fonti di contraccolpo per infastidire i giocatori nemici in genere, ma non sempre, con l'intenzione di ucciderli.
  • Spesso realizzato con il Colpo d'aria compressa del Piro e la spinta dell'Interbase dell'Esploratore, ma anche occasionalmente realizzato con la Forza della Natura.

Butterknife (Coltello da burro)
Può riferirsi a:
  • Termine per quando una Spia fallisce un'uccisione da pugnalata con il Coltello.
  • Attacchi con il Coltello in generale che non sono una pugnalata alle spalle.
  • Un evento in cui la Spia semplicemente attacca l'avversario con il proprio coltello senza avere l'intenzione di segnare una pugnalata alle spalle, accade molto comunemente durante i 1v1 tra Spie o altre battaglie con melee.
Bushwackare/(Fare) bushwhacking (poco usato in italiano)
Termine usato per indicare l'uccisione di un nemico impregnato di Giarate col Bushwacka.
BRB
Acronimo per "Be Right Back" ("Torno Fra Poco").

C

C9
Termine usato quando una squadra lascia il Carrello o un Punto di Controllo durante gli ultimi momenti di un match, permettendo all'altra squadra di vincere tramite conquista o per lo scadere il tempo. Deriva dall'errore che fece la squadra di Overwatch C9 durante un match.
Caber
Abbreviazione per il Tronco di Ullapool (Ullapool Caber in inglese).
Caberknight
Un Demoknight (Democavaliere) che usa il Tronco di Ullapool e mira a grandi folle di nemici nella speranza di eseguire un Colpo Critico attraverso la carica.
Camping
Articolo principale: Camping
Si riferisce a quando un giocatore (o giocatori) rimane in una zona di vantaggio tattico, ma di solito implica l'aspettare i giocatori nemici che entrino o passino per una determinata area.
  • Positivo: Certe classi hanno un aspetto intenzionale da "camping" nella loro strategia, ad esempio, un Heavy che rimane sul punto, un Demolitore che aspetta vicino ad una trappola Adesiva, oppure un Cecchino piazzato in una posizione di vantaggio, specialmente in una posizione creata per design della mappa per quel fine (riferito come camp).
  • Negativo: Aspettare eccessivamente in una posizione che è particolarmente vantaggiosa all'individuo ma contribuisce poco alla squadra (diverso dall'Idling), o sfruttare una posizione non intenzionale che chiaramente pone l'intera squadra avversaria in grave svantaggio a discapito del gioco, in special modo lo Spawn camping.
Questo termine non si riferisce in quei casi in cui ci si nasconde temporaneamente in un angolo per un breve periodo di tempo, un Ingegnere che protegge le sue Costruzioni, oppure un'Imboscata.
Cannon
Abbreviazione del Cannone Vagante.
Cannon Jumping
L'atto di usare un colpo di cannone in ritardo con il Cannone Vagante per eseguire un salto esplosivo che copre lunghe distanze.
Cannon Knight
Una variante del Cavaliere Ibrido che usa il Cannone Vagante, principalmente per eseguire una carica in aria dopo un salto da cannone.
Cap
Refers to the completion of an objective such as a control point capture, returning the enemy's Intelligence to one's base or pushing the carrello

Carry Scout
A Scout equipped and using Crit-a-Cola.
Carrying
When a player or group of players contribute a significantly higher portion towards winning the game objective than their teammates.

Chaincappare
Catturare il punto di controllo successivo appeno dopo che il punto precedente è stato catturato.
Chainsap
May refer to:
  • The placement of Sappers on several buildings at a time.
  • The rapid replacement of Sappers on a single building, preventing the Engineer from repairing it.
Chainstab
Killing numerous unaware enemies in quick succession via the backstab capability of any of the Spy's melee weapons.

Cheesing
Completing a Contract Objective or an Achievement by easier means other than intended through playing to game objecives, whether by exploiting particular Achievement or Contract mechanics (e.g., repeately dropping and picking up one soul in Player Destruction, tanking damage by falling or drowning) or cooperating with a Friendly player on the other team.
Chievements / Chieves / Cheevos / Achievos
Slang terms for "achievements".
Chipshot
The act of shooting an enemy player using a Shotgun or Pistol from far away dealing little damage.

Chokepoint (or choke)
An area that is relatively narrow, forcing players to group up to pass through; particularly a such a location with no effective flank. This makes it easier to defend by using weapons that damage in an area of effect.
Circle strafe

The act of moving around an opponent while keeping the crosshair locked on and attacking.
Civilian

  • A crucial moment related to winning or losing a match.
  • The ability to perform under pressure.
Not to be confused with Crutch.
Collateral
Using the Machina to kill two or more enemies with a single fully-charged shot.
Collector
Può riferirsi a:
  • A player who collects a large number of one type of item.
  • An item of the Collector's quality.
Combat Class
A class whose health and firepower is greater in proportion to its mobility, often found at the front lines. Classes include the Soldier, Demoman, and Heavy.
Combo
Può riferirsi a:
  • A general term for a Medic and their Medic buddy. Can be used in specific context; i.e. a "Heavy Combo" is used to indicate a Medic healing a Heavy.
  • A series of attacks that take advantage of the fast weapon switch capability of the Degreaser, Reserve Shooter, or Panic Attack. For example, a Pyro may use the Degreaser to ignite an enemy, then take advantage of its fast holster time to quickly switch to the Flare Gun to finish them with a Critical Hit.
Comp
Short for "competitive play".

Cornerstab
Articolo principale: Backstab
A form of trickstabbing by waiting around a corner to backstab an enemy as a Spy. One method of doing this is by "baiting" the enemy into following them and then waiting around a corner.
Circle strafe/(Fare) circle strafing

Clean/Pulito
Si riferisce ad un oggetto. Esso è clean se può essere scambiato. Vedi Scambio per ulteriori informazioni.
CP
Punto di controllo, termine che deriva dall'abbreviazione inglese di "control point".
Cratering
Dying from fall damage, either by falling a great distance or being accelerated into the ground by an explosive.

Crate Depression (of 2019)
A name given to a small period of time in 2019 where a bug caused certain crates to guarantee an Unusual quality item, causing the prices of certain Unusual cosmetics to plummet. The name is a play on Great Depression, a real-life economic depression.
Crit
Abbraviazione di colpo critico.

Crit Heal
Refers to Medi Gun or Amputator healing at the two to three times increased healing rates that happen when the target has not received damage for at least 10 to 15 seconds, respectively.
Critana/Kritana
Vecchio soprannome dato dai fan per la Half-Zatoichi prima che la probabilità di un Colpo Critico fosse rimossa nell'Aggiornamento Tough Break.
Crocket
Un gioco di parole che utilizza la parola Crit(ico) e il Missile (Rocket).

Crumpkin kill
A kill scored while under the effect of a crit-boost from a Halloween pumpkin pickup. (from contraction of crit-pumpkin)

Crutch
A word used to describe a weapon that helps a bad player, but hinders a good player.
A derogatory term for a weapon that compensates for a player's lack of skill.
Not to be confused with Clutch.

Custom map
A map that has been made by a member of the TF2 community but has not been officially added to the game.

D

Deathmatch/DM
Può riferirsi a:
  • Un termine non ufficiale per la modalità Arena.
  • Un giocatore che si focalizza sull'ottenere uccisioni piuttosto che sull'obbiettivo.
  • Una mappa che ha un obbiettivo difficile da catturare e quindi incoraggia l'uccidere rispetto al progredire sul completamento dell'obbiettivo. Un esempio può essere Hightower.
DC
Sinonimo di "disconnesso", a volte scritto "D/C".
Demo
Può riferirsi a:
Democrab
Un Demoman che imita il movimento di un granchio muovendosi mentre è inginocchiato (crouch) e impugnando l'Obiettore di Coscienza o altre reskin del Saxxy. Il termine deriva da un meme della Community sullo Spycrab, che anch'esso richiede all'utente di camminare da inginocchiato mentre si impugna un'arma specifica. Il motivo per cui il Demolitore assomigli ad un granchio è dovuto ad un altro glitch del braccio che coinvolge l'uso specifico del Saxxy o di una sua reskin.

Demoknight/Democavaliere
Può riferirsi a:
  • A Demoman typically wielding the Brocchiere da Carica, Vira-Maree or Barriera Splendida that actively uses their melee weapon. Variations of the term usually refer to their other equipped weapons. Demoknights wielding the Bottiglia may be referred to as "Bottleknights", whereas Demoknights wielding the Sticky Jumper may be referred to as "Jumperknights" or "Rocketknights".

Demonstration Man
Slang for the Demoman, used in a silly fashion. Derives from the word "demonstration", which becomes "demo" when shortened.
Demopan
Un Demolitore che impugna una Padella, Cappello del Bottino, Brocchiere da Carica e Pericolesco, Pure?, referring to a popular community fad.
Demospam
Derogatory term used to describe a Demoman who spams their Grenade Launcher or Stickybomb Launcher without aiming.
Derping
Silly behavior that could include repeated taunting or antics for their own sake; potentially a form of griefing if performed during combat or excessively during Setup time.
DH
Acronimo per il Colpo Diretto del Soldato, dall'inglese "Direct Hit".
Direct Miss
Fan name for the Direct Hit, which lacks a large splash radius and requires precise aim. Inexperienced players using this weapon will often miss their shots.
Dom/Doms
Abbreviation of Domination(s).
Donk
Può riferirsi a:
Dirty/Sporco
Si riferisce ad un oggetto. Esso è "sporco" quando non può essere scambiato e richiede la Confezione Regalo per essere scambiato. Vedi Scambio per ulteriori informazioni.

DR

Edging
Fighting an immobile target by strafing out of cover, firing, then strafing back into cover, generally at a corner. This tactic is especially effective against Sentry Guns, as the Sentry Gun's slow turn rate makes it easy to shoot at before it can return fire, and the Sentry Gun's hitbox edge can be hit without the Sentry Gun being able to target the player's center.
Engie/Engy/Engi
Abbreviazione dell'Ingegnere, dall'inglese "Engineer".
Edgy/Edgelord
Term generally related to players that wears dark or black-painted cosmetic items, like a Sniper wearing a black-painted Anger.

Engineer nest
Slang term used to describe a location where one or more Engineers have set up multiple Buildings.
Engi"nearing"
Slang term used to describe the Rescue Ranger's pick-up ability.
EOTL
Abbreviation for the End of the Line Update.
EZ/ez
Abbreviation for "easy", usually used in conjunction with "GG".

F

F2P
Può riferirsi a:
  • An acronym for "Free-2-Play" (Free-to-play), used to describe new players who do not possess a Premium account.
  • A derogatory term referring to a player lacking skill, based on the generalization of non-Premium players being less skilled at the game.
  • Abbreviation for the Free to Play update.
  • Anything that can be obtained without becoming a Premium player, such as the Ghostly Gibus and Pyrovision Goggles.

Facestab
A Spy's knife attack that registers as a backstab despite appearing to hit their opponent's front due to lag compensation.

FAN / FaN
Acronym for the Force-A-Nature weapon for the Scout.

Farming
The act of obtaining something with less time commitment or in-game contribution than was originally intended (from the misconception that farmers do nothing but wait for their crops to grow). May refer to:

Fat Scout
Refers to a Heavy who primarily uses either the Shotgun, Family Business, or Panic Attack rather than their primary weapon. He may also frequently equip the Gloves of Running Urgently or Eviction Notice.
Field of View / FOV
A term to describe how much a player can see onscreen at a time.
Flag
Synonym for the Intelligence in Capture the Flag maps.

Flank
Refers to any particular alternate route that can bypass enemies. These are often lengthy and out of the way or require jumping or swimming. Examples of flanks include the waterways in Well (Control Point), the back routes through the Lobby on Badwater Basin, or Spiral Straircase also on Badwater Basin.
Flare punch
A term to describe the act of a Pyro manipulating flame particles to use the Flare Gun (usually paired with the Degreaser) to crit an enemy Pyro in the short time span that they are on fire.
Flyro
A Pyro using the Thermal Thruster.
FoW
Acronym for the Fan O'War.
Frag
Synonym for "kill," often used when the player killed has been gibbed.
Frag video
Refers to a video that records a player's kills in the game.

Friendly / friendlies (also peaceful)
May refer to:
  • The act of not fighting. "Friendly" can either be a verb or a noun, where "friendlies" is the plural of the noun. Players may do so out of boredom, frustration due to being on the losing team, or to propose a stalemate. To counteract how overly-friendly behavior stops legitimate games, some servers have a plugin called "Friendly Mode," which turns users into ghosts that cannot harm or be harmed. Common examples of friendly behavior include:
    • Crouching while walking.
    • Using voice commands in a humorous way (such as using the "No" voice command to respond to "The Sniper is a Spy!" or repeatedly using the "Help!" voice command as the Heavy).
    • Giving Sandviches or other edibles to enemies as a Heavy.
    • Starting a group or two-player taunt, such as the Conga or Flippin' Awesome.
  • A teammate.
Facestab
Un attacco col coltello della Spia che viene registrato come pugnalata alle spalle nonostante fosse stato fatto da davanti a causa del meccanismo di compensazione del lag. Vedi anche pugnalata alle spalle: problemi.
Failstab

L'atto di ottenere qualcosa più velocemente di quanto si fosse voluto. Si può riferire a:
  1. Ottenere i risultati in massa,
  2. Stare fermi o usare altri metodi per ottenere cappelli od armi con il sistema di rilascio oggetti in server specifici.
Flag/Bandiera
Sinonimo dei Segreti nella modalità cattura la bandiera.
FoW
Abbreviazione del Ven Taglio, dall'inglese "Fan O'War", rilasciato nello Shogun Pack.
Frag
Usato per indicare un'uccisione, soprattutto se la vittima è ridotta in pezzi; usato anche per indicare un video che contiene serie di uccisioni, per esempio "frag video".

G

Garden/Gardened
To kill an enemy with a Critical hit from the Market Gardener. Term can also be used in a joking sense to describe an instance where another player launches themselves and delivers a finishing blow with any melee weapon upon landing.
Gayle
A portmanteau of "Gay" and "Hale" primarily used to describe Death Run Activators who grief or use map glitches for an unfair advantage. Often used humorously to describe an Activator who wins a game before any players reach the end.
Get Down Mr. President
A humorous phrase used to describe an accidental kill caused by a player (usually unintentionally) taking a would-be fatal attack, often a headshot or backstab, in the place of the attacker's intended target, dying while the intended target survives and potentially escapes.
GG/gg
Good game, sometimes from a moral or sportsmanship standpoint rather than winning/losing.
GJ/gj
Good job, used often at the end of a game in a manner similar to GG.
GR/gr
May refer to:
  • Good round. Used when the match is composed of more than one round (like Stopwatch matches on A\D and Payload maps, or "First to X" matches).
  • "Get rekt".

Gibus
May refer to:
  • A shortened version of either the Ghostly Gibus, Ghastly Gibus, Ghastlier Gibus, or Ghastlierest Gibus, often associated with novice players or players without a premium account due to the fact that obtaining one of these hats is easy and possible without obtaining a premium account.
  • A player wearing one of the aforementioned hats.
Gibusvision
May refer to:
  • A slang term for wearing a combination of a Gibus hat and the Pyrovision Goggles. As with the term "Gibus," this is associated with novice or non-premium players.
  • A term for a player, usually a Sniper, that wears both the Gibus and Pyrovision Goggles, and has very poor awareness. These players rarely notice their surroundings.
Googly Eyes
Slang for the Sight for Sore Eyes.
Goomba Stomp / Goomba stomp
Goomba stomp: Killing another player by jumping on their head with the Mantreads or Thermal Thruster.
Goomba Stomp: A server mod that allows players to kill enemies by simply jumping on their heads, even without the use of specific weapons.
The name is a reference to the Goomba enemy from Nintendo's Mario video game franchise.
Gottam
A slang term deriving from the Engineer voice command line "Gotta move that gear up!"

Griefing

Deliberately causing annoyance to players on the server, either to one's own team or the opposing team. Oftentimes, griefing involves the use of map or weapon exploits.

Grinding
May refer to:
  • Working continuously on the actions for a specific achievement or Contract Objective, particularly those that must be repeated several times or require a great number of attempts (from the concept that grinding is a slow but steady way to shape metal). Since the action might not be the best for some tactical situations, a few may consider it idling in some situations. As opposed to farming, the player is actively in a game with other players and is usually contributing in some way to the objectives, if indirectly.
  • Repeatedly damaging one's self to speed building of ÜberCharge by a companion Medic, particularly referred to as self-damage grinding.
Grocket
Grordbort's rockets, crash-landed rockets that appeared on a few maps for some months in 2011.
Groundstalling
A term to describe the act of airblasting an enemy into the ground, which the game still counts as mid-air, and mini-critting them with the Reserve Shooter.
This is outdated as of the Jungle Inferno Update, which no longer allows the weapon to mini-crit players launched into the air by the Pyro's airblast.
GRU / GORU GoRU
Acronym for the Gloves of Running Urgently.
Gunshot bride
A highly exaggerated term for a well-aimed airshot. Originates from a video named 300% skilled airshot, where a Soldier lands a slow-motion airshot on a Demoman while Pendulum's Propane Nightmares plays in the background.
Gunspy
A label for a Spy who uses their primary weapon more than their melee weapon.
G. [name of item]
An item of the Genuine quality.

H

Hacking / hacker / hacks

May refer to:
Halo-caust
A slang term used to reference the Patch del 2 settembre 2009 where Valve penalized players who had been using external programs to idle. As a result, some servers (primarily those run by people that didn't get Cheater's Laments) began opting "anti-halo" policies, even going so far as to use mods that changed the Cheater's Lament to form various insults targeting the wearer. The term is derived from the nickname for the Cheater's Lament that non-offending players received, placed in combination with a reference to the Holocaust.
HHH
An abbreviation for the Horseless Headless Horsemann.

HHH Axe / HHHH
An abbreviation for the Horseless Headless Horsemann's Headtaker. Synonym: UHHHH.
Hoovy
A friendly Heavy. Plural: Hoovies. The Sandvich is a popular secondary weapon for Hoovy players, as they tend to drop it for both teammates and enemies to replenish their health.
Slang term for Heavy, often used in a silly fashion.
Huddah
A simplified translation of one of the Pyro's mumbles.
Hybrid Knight
A Demoknight who mostly uses the Grenade Launcher due to the shields giving temporary crits (mini-crits with the Tide Turner) during a charge.

I

Idle server / idle map
A server or map dedicated to hosting Idling players, but with less emphasis on Achievements (Example: Achievement Idle). See also Achievement server or Leveling server.

Idler/Idling
May refer to:
  • On an active game server (especially in Casual Mode), someone who is otherwise not participating in the game, but is not particularity bothering anyone, possibly indicated by staying in spawn, staying far from the action, grinding Achievements or Contracts, or having a very low score. Such behavior is often stated as grounds for vote kicks.
  • Someone who is present on the server but is deliberately not playing the game for a long period of time to earn items via the item drop system. Main article: Idling.
    • Someone who uses external idling programs or uses Idling or Achievement servers for the same purpose.
Instakill
A kill achieved in a single hit with the player being killed having full health. Examples include a charged headshot a Backstab or an environmental kill, such as being hit by a Train or being caught in the Payload cart's explosion at the end of a round.

Intel
Abbreviation for the Intelligence in Capture the Flag maps.

Invuln
A term for ÜberCharge. Synomyms: "Über" and "charge".

J

Jar
Short for Jarate.
Jarate chop
A hit with the Bushwacka after covering an enemy in Jarate.
Juggling

Acronimo per "Kill-Death Ratio" ("Rapporto Uccisioni-Morti") o "Kill Assist Death Ratio" ("Rapporto Aiuti a Uccidere-Morti"). Può essere espresso come rapporto (27 Uccisioni:7 Morti) o come numero decimale (1.75 KDR). Kick
May refer to:
  • The act of votekicking a player in the hopes of kicking them out of a server, or if an administrator is present on a community server, immediately kicking.
  • A shorthand version of the Kazotsky Kick.
Killbind
Players who commit suicide by using the kill or explode command on console, players who do so usually have it bound to a specific key on the keyboard.
Knockback
The movement of a player, caused by an outside source. Often associated with weapons such as the Force-A-Nature.

Kritz
Slang for the ÜberCharge of the Kritzkrieg, or being subjected to one.
K Then/K
Short for "Okay then"/"Okay". A sarcastic acknowledgement after experiencing some random or luck-based event, in a "so that happened" way. Common examples are Crit kills, unintentional kills, facestabs, kills with the Mantreads, and collateral kills.
Kitchen Warrior / Guerriero da Cucina

Knock back / Knockback

Leveling server
A server primarily for players to rapidly increase the levels​ of​ Strange items​.​
Lft
Abbreviation of "looking for team"; often added after a player's name to advertise that they are interested in joining a competitive team.
Lime Scout
Term for a Scout with cosmetics painted The Bitter Taste of Defeat and Lime, acting as a Tryhard. Like an Anger Sniper, they are usually depicted as killing friendlies, using rude binds, and taunting after most kills.
Lucksman
A term used for the Huntsman, referring to the ease of getting kills with this weapon, only having to rely on "luck," due to the arrows' large hitboxes.

M

Mann Up
Short for the Mann Up Mode in Mann vs. Machine.
Mini / Mini-Sentry
Short for "Combat Mini-Sentry Gun".
Main
A class which a player mostly plays or only plays in any given match.

Masking
Used to cancel a response cue of some abilities (e.g. Medic's "Übercharge ready!" when charge reaches 100% or Pyro's yell when activating Phlogistinator's "Mmmph") with voice commands.

Matador stab

A form of trickstabbing by tricking an enemy to follow the player and then quickly strafing to the side to sidestab them.
Marked
Used to signal teammates that an enemy has been hit by the Fan O'War.
Market Garden
Using the Market Gardener while rocket jumping. Usually referred to a kill using the weapon while in mid-air. May also refer to similar airborne kills using the melee weapon as a different class.
Meat
Refers to either the Buffalo Steak Sandvich or the Ham Shank.

Meat turret/Meat sentry
A Heavy that defends a Dispenser with more or less continuous revolution, frequently Spy Checking, and shooting incoming Rockets and destroying Stickies.

Meatshot
When all or most of the bullets fired from weapons with large spreads, such as the Shotgun or Scattergun, hit the target, thereby doing massive damage.
Medic buddy
A Medic's Pocket.

Medic Girlfriend
A term used for a player's pocket Medic who will never leave their side, even if there's someone else who needs healing directly in front of them. They might also have the “No” voice command bound to their WASD keys and the player they are healing is usually referred to as their “boyfriend,” most commonly a Soldier.
Meem
Slang for "MEDIC!"—often used in a silly fashion. It originated from the community fad which came from taking the Medic's "MEDIC!" voice line, cutting off the second half, playing the first half, and then, immediately playing it backwards, causing it to replicate the word "meme".
Meme Spoon
Slang for Market Gardener
Meta
The most effective way to play the game competitively, deemed by the community. Usually refers to certain playstyles or weapon loadouts.
Meta 6/meta team
In the context of Mann vs. Machine, a team that is the same as the one shown in Mann vs. Machine (teaser) (Scout, Demo, Soldier, Heavy, Medic, Engie).
MG
Abbreviation for Market Garden or Market Gardener
Mic/Mike
A microphone, used for communication over voice chat.
Mic spam
Originally described as the act of repeatedly playing sounds, music, or generally abusing the game's voice chat feature. It has since grown to include all manner of sound playing. Third party software is often used to accomplish this, including HLDJ, Virtual Audio Cable, and Manycam. Micspam can be considered either entertaining or griefing, depending on the server.
Positive aspects of mic spam may include:
  • Playing music for the server.
  • Playing comedic soundbites from TV shows, movies, standup acts, and more.
  • Playing appropriate sound files on specific occasions for humorous effect.
Negative uses of mic spam may include:
  • Repeatedly playing the same audio file to annoy other players.
  • Playing sounds that are high in bass or volume and can potentially damage other players' speakers, headphones, or even hearing.
  • Periodically playing an irritating noise during a fraction of a second, making it very difficult for others to see who broadcasted the sound.
  • Creating noise by singing, blowing into the microphone, or simply talking incessantly to disrupt others.
  • Using voice modification software to manipulate one's voice to sound either extremely high pitched or robotic to disrupt others.

Other uses of mic spam may include:

  • Unintentionally caused by excessive background noise.
  • Attempting to voice chat with a broken or bad quality microphone.
Mid
Short for the middle control point. Used most commonly on five-point Control Point maps.
Mmph
May refer to:
  • A simplified translation of one of the Pyro's muffles.
  • The MMPH meter, a meter on the Phlogistinator that fills based on fire damage.
MvM
Short for Mann vs. Machine.

Nido dell'Ingegnere

N00b/Noob/Nub/Newb/Newbie
Un termine che indica un giocatore nuovo al gioco o senza abilità. "Noob" è generalmente considerato un insulto più offensivo di ciò, indicando qualcuno con una mancanza di abilità attribuibile ad un livello èiù basso della semplice inesperienza. Pocket
Molto spesso usato in congiunzione con una classe, es. "Pocket Medic" o "Pocket Pyro", il termine descrive un giocatore che aiuta un solo compagno. Il termine allude all'idea di prendere il giocatore che supporta, metterlo nella tasca e portarselo in giro. Pocket è spesso usato come termine negativo perché spesso i pocket tendono ad ignorare gli atri giocatori che hanno bisogno di essere curati.
Poor and Irish
Un termine usato per descrivere un giocatore che non ha cappelli, coniato dal Gentiluomo di Ozio in una pagine nascosta di un aggiornamento.
Pub
Abbreviazione di "server pubblico", o alternativamente qualcuno che non fa parte del gruppo di un server, ma ci gioca comunque.
Pubber
Un termine dispregiativo che indica un giocatore che frequenta server pubblici invece che server competitivi.
Pub stomp
Un azione nella quale molti giocatore esperti entrano in un server pubblico con l'intenzione di vincere in modo spettacolare, spesso come significato di superiorità e dominanza.
Puff'n'Flare
Una variazione del Puff'n'Sting (vedi sotto), ma con la combo completata con uno sparo della Pistola Lanciarazzi invece dell'Estintascia.
Puff'n'Sting
Una tecnica per il Piro in cui la vittima viene incendiata col lanciafiamme, poi viene fatta volare contro un muro grazie al soffio del compressore (il "puff"), e poi si cambia arma con l'Estintascia per uccidere (lo "sting"). Questa tecnica è molto potente perché l'Estintascia garantisce colpi critici contro nemici in fiamme. Questa tecnica è usata anche col Cric Elettrico.

Q

QQ
Uno slang originari di Warcraft 2 nel quale 'alt'+'Q'+'Q' faceva uscire il giocatore, ma oggigiorno è interpretato come un paio di occhi piangenti, spesso usato in maniera canzonatoria, es. "QQ more".

R

Rage
Si può riferire a:
  1. La barra di "Rabbia" che il Soldato fa salire quando si utilizza lo Stendardo Scamosciato, il Supporto del Battaglione, o lo Strombozzatore.
  2. Quando un giocatore si arrabbia mentre gioca, spesso risultante nel giocatore che lascia il server (vedi sotto).
Ragequit
Termine per indicare un giocatore che si disconnette da un server, probabilmente frustrato, arrabbiato o umiliato da una serie di morti da parte sua.
Rambo Medic
Vedi Battle Medic.
Random Crits/Critici a caso
Usato comunemente quando il gioco regala ad un giocatore un periodo di, o un solo colpo critico. Usato sia come riconoscimento sia quando una battaglia è finita prima di quanto si aspettasse, mentre si è frustrati. ("Scusami, random crits!")
RTD/Roll The Dice
Un plugin non ufficiale dei server che permette ai giocatori di "tirare il dado" usando un comando. Dopo aver tirato il dado, ai giocatori è dato un periodo di benefici o svantaggi, come critici illimitati od essere costretti a rimanere fermi nel proprio posto.
RTV/Rock The Vote
Nei server con un plugin RTV, il Rock the Vote avviene quando la maggior parte dei giocatori vota di giocare in un'altra mappa.

Revengineer
Un Ingegnere con la Giustizia di Frontiera ed il Pugno di Ferro equipaggiati, crasi tra "Revenge" ("Vendetta") ed "Engineer" ("Ingegnere").

Scoutrush
Un rush facente uso unicamente di Esploratori.
Scoot
Termine per indicare l'Esploratore, dall'inglese "Scout", spesso usato in modo dispregiativo (similmente a "Hoovy").
Scrapbank
Riferito a giocatori che accumulano Metallo di Scarto e lo vendono per due oggetti qualsiasi di un altro giocatore.
Sentry/SG/Sentry Gun/Turret
Una Torretta di un Ingegnere, dall'inglese "Sentry Gun".
Sentry Farm
Un punto della mappa dove molti Ingegneri hanno posizionato le loro Torrette molto vicine tra loro.
Sidestab
Un nome alternativo per indicare uno spinstab.
Spamming/Spam
Si può riferire a:
  1. L'atto di concentrare i propri attacchi in un'area particolare nel tentativo di guadagnare uccisioni o negare ai nemici l'accesso all'area,
  2. L'atto di sparare proiettili sfrenatamente senza un mira precisa, soprattutto usato per il Lanciagranate,
  3. Un'abbondanza non voluta di qualcosa come messaggi di chat, una classe specifica, o una precisa tattica nel gioco.

Spawn
Un'area nella quale il giocatore si crea e/o l'area in cui il giocatore si rigenera.
Spawn Camping/Spawn-camping
Una situazione nella quale una squadra si posiziona al punto di rigenerazione dell'altra squadra e inizia ad uccidere i giocatori prima che possano tentare di uscire o fare qualcosa. Vedi Camping per ulteriori informazioni.
Spec
Abbreviazione per la modalità spettatore.
Spycappare/(Fare) Spycapping
Una strategia nella quale una Spia vicino a un punto di controllo non ancora disponibile (solitamente il punto di controllo finale dato l'accelerato tempo di cattura) con l'intenzione di catturarlo appena diventa disponibile e prima che i nemici abbiano il tempo di ritirarsi per difenderlo.
Spycheckare/(Fare) spycheck
L'atto di controllare se i propri compagni di squadra sono Spie o se ci sono Spie in una specifica zona. Spesso è riferito al Piro che cerca di scoprire le Spie nemiche usando il Lanciafiamme sui propri compagni di squadra, ma si può Spycheckare anche con le altre classi, sparando ai compagni. Spycrab
Una Spia che imita il movimento di un granchio accovacciandosi e guardando in alto con il Kit di Travestimento equipaggiato. Si riferisce anche all'insulto associato al Kit di Travestimento.
Spygineer
Una crasi tra "Spy" ed "Engineer" che indica una Spia travestita da Ingegnere.
Spyro
Una crasi tra "Spy" e "Pyro" che indica una Spia travestita da Piro.
Stab'n'Sap
Una tecnica della Spia nella quale si pugnala alle spalle un Ingegnere ed immediatamente si seleziona l'Elettro-Sabotatore e si sabota la Torretta dell'Ingegnere prima che riesca ad ucciderti.
Stairstab/Jumpstab
L'atto di saltare sopra la testa di un nemico da un punto elevato e, come Spia, di pugnalare alle spalle il nemico prima che si accorga di ciò.
Sticky
Termine per indicare le Bombe Adesive, dall'inglese "Stickybomb".
Sword and Board/Spada e Scudo
Termine simile al Demoknight, che però si riferisce ad un Demolitore che usa specificatamente il Brocchiere da Carica e l'Eyelander insieme.

T

Tappeti di Sticky/Sticky carpet
Grandi gruppi di Bombe Adesive che rendono certe aree impossibili da attraversare finché non si riesce a distruggerle.
Tele/TP
Abbreviazione del Teletrasporto dell'Ingegnere.
Telefraggare/(Fare un) Telefrag
Termine che indica l'uccisione di un nemico teletrasportandosi quando l'avversario si trova sull'uscita del Teletrasporto.
(Fare) Turtling
Utilizzare tecniche estremamente difensive per impedire alla squadra attaccante di proseguire, soprattutto con gli Ingegneri. A volte si riferisce all'atto degli Ingegneri di creare Torretta e Dispenser vicini a loro, rimanendo in prossimità di essi mentre li si ripara costantemente.
Typekillare
Uccidere un nemico che stava scrivendo in chat, dall'inglere "Type" ("Digitare") e kill ("Uccidere"/"Uccisione").
Troll
Un troll è una persona che invia messaggi provocatori ed offensivi per insultare gli altri utenti.

U

Dare un'ÜberCarica, abbreviazione del termine.

Qualcuno che è ÜberCaricato.

Vanilla
Si può riferire a:

W

W+M1
Letteralmente, "Avanti (Tasto predefinito W) e fuoco (MOUSE1)", un termine dispregiativo attribuito ai giocatori che usano il Piro in questo modo, spesso indicante mancanza di abilità.
W+M2
Letteralmente, "Avanti (Default key W) e compressione MOUSE2", un termine derivante da "W+M1" attribuito ai giocatori che usano il Piro in questo modo, solo riflettendo i proiettili senza usare l'attacco primario del Lanciafiamme.
Wep
Abbreviazione per arma, dall'inglese "Weapon", spesso usato negli scambi.
WTB
Acronimo per "Want/Willing To Buy" ("Compro"), indicante un giocatore che cerca un oggetto specifico.
WTS
Acronimo per "Want/Willing To Sell" ("Vendo"), indicante un giocatore che vende un oggetto specifico.
WTT

Blandlands
A volte detto "Blands", è un termine usato dai giocatori per riferirsi a Badlands. È usato solo dai giocatori che non vorrebbero giocare in quella mappa, comunemente perché ci hanno giocato un gran numero di volte in un piccolo periodo di tempo.
(Fare) Bombing
Un termine dispregiativo usato quando un Soldato fa un salto-razzo sopra il nemico e spara al suo Medico al fine di fargli attivare un'ÜberCarica o per ucciderlo.

C

Comms/Comm/Com
Abbreviativo per comunicazione (dall'inglese "communications"). Si riferisce alla comunicazione dei giocatori usando la chat del gioco o la chat vocale, o più comunemente un programma esterno per chat vocali voice over IP (VoIP) come Mumble o Ventrilo.

ETF2L
Acronimo per European Team Fortress 2 League (Lega Europea di Team Fortress 2). È il fulcro centrale del quadro competitivo di Team Fortress 2. Vedi ETF2L per ulteriori informazioni.

G-Pit
Abbreviativo per Gravel Pit.
Granlands
Si riferisce alle due mappe più popolari per il gioco competitivo: Badlands e Granary. È un termine usato spesso tra giochi in gruppi casuali dove le squadre concordano di giocare due mappe, es. "Che mappe volete fare, ragazzi?", "Granlands?", "Certo".

Hale
Un'Abbreviazione usata per Saxton Hale nella modalità di gioco Contro Saxton Hale.
Highlander
Un tipo di partita nella quale i nove giocatori di ogni squadra usano una classe diversa di TF2.

Lobby
Si riferisce al sito Internet TF2Lobby. Un sito popolare usato per organizzare le partite.

Poppare
Un sinonimo di "Usa un'Über"; per esempio la frase "Hanno poppato" significa "Hanno usato la loro Über". Può essere usato anche in frasi come "Poppami!".

R

Roamer
Si riferisce al Soldato che non ha un Pocket Medic. La missione primaria dei Roamer è togliere di mezzo i Medici nemici.
Rollout
Un tracciato specifico che il giocatore segue per arrivare al punto di controllo al centro. È ideato per far arrivare il giocatore al punto di controllo il prima possibile o per fornire altri vantaggi strategici.

Scrim/Skirmish
Una partita di allenamento tra due squadre. Di solito giocando nel formato competitivo 6 contro 6 o 9 contro 9 negli scontri Highlander.
Steamroll

Riferito alle Bombe Adesive, dall'inglese "Stickybombs". Di solito usato per segnalare ai compagni la presenza di una trappola com Bombe Adesive o che sono in una zona importante, es. "Stick sul punto!", che significa "Ci sono Bombe Adesive sul punto di controllo!".

Quando un nemico è stato colpito fortemente in un sol colpo, solitamente con colpi che infliggono più di 60 danni alla salute del nemico, es. "Il Medico è taggato per 70", indicante che il Medico nemico ha subito 70 danni da un sol colpo.
