Assorted Questions

  • Is it useful or appropriate to list Sentry Buster-based achievements here? Wayn3w 14:39, 19 August 2012 (PDT)
This is already listed, but yes. Achievements can be listed on any relevant page, under the header == Related Achievements == Darkid (talk|contribs) 18:35, 21 August 2012 (PDT)
  • I've noticed as an Engineer that sentry busters spawn if a sentry accumulates 20 kills. This includes assist kills. Spy is not our Spy! 18:26, 25 August 2012 (PDT)
Can you show video proof (i.e. 19 kills and no spawn, wait a while, make 20th kill, instant/fast spawn)? Or, try to find that key number, or span of time, or whatever actually causes it. Darkid (talk|contribs) 18:35, 21 August 2012 (PDT)
  • Sorry, my computer is shit for recording. But I have noticed that when my Sentry accumulates 20 total kills (kills + assists) a Sentry Buster spawns. Spy is not our Spy! 18:26, 25 August 2012 (PDT)

"Three-Teleporter Radius"

What the hell is a three-teleporter radius? Can't we get a hammer unit scale or something more useful as a unit of measurement? ==Fax Celestis talkcontribhome 20:03, 23 August 2012 (PDT)

  • Take a Teleporter's radius and multiply it by three. Spy is not our Spy! 18:27, 25 August 2012 (PDT)
Made sense to me. I know what hammer units are but I don't have an idea of their actual scale.Uneffect 10:09, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
Every other measurement of distance or speed on this wiki is measured in hammer units. We should remain consistent, if nothing else. ==Fax Celestis talkcontribhome 11:33, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
Does Valve ever use hammer units to describe distances to gamers? Or is it only used behind the scenes for technical reasons? Also no reason to be consistent for neatness sake if it is not a useful standard for every purpose.Uneffect 14:46, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
Good point. Quickly, someone find how many hammer units a Teleporter's teleporting range is and multiply it by three. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Enemy Spy (talk) • (contribs) 20:17, 28 August 2012

The Sentry Buster Fluster

So if you haul your sentry and run to meet the Sentry Buster a few seconds before it gets close, then lead it away from any team buildings/players, then stand still for a moment, it will begin its arming sequence and you can run back to your dispenser still hauling your gun. The Sentry Buster is a silly duffer and can't abort the self destruct and blows up and nothing of value is lost.

Is this a feature or a bug?

I think it is a great feature/bug and use it every time, it is very effective.Uneffect 17:31, 27 August 2012 (PDT)

I think that's one of the main ways that you're supposed to escape the sentry buster. Doesn't seem like a bug, or else this would be ridiculously hard to time moving your sentry every time before detonation. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fyahweather (talk) • (contribs) 01:55, 28 August 2012
I don't think you've understood what I'm saying, also for the case you described, the correct timing is to haul once it stops walking, there are also reliable sound cues. Pretty easy, that's what makes me think valve will have to nerf the buster registering a hauled sentry as a valid target.Uneffect 09:56, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
This is not a bug, it is an expected property of the Sentry Buster. It was most likely created to recognize hauled Sentries as a way to stop it running forever if an Engineer picked up his Sentry too early. It is just exploiting, if you will, the system. removed Instant Teleport tactic

Took this out because it is a waste of everything involved. Just move out of the blast radius, don't tele to spawn and waste your canteen slots with that power up. "Another idea is to use an Instant Teleport buff to allow it to start detonating, then teleport to your base hurriedly. If you have a teleporter a small distance away from where your sentry was, you may even be able to get back to the front lines almost seconds after detonation." What causes a Sentry Buster to spawn

Will it be spawned if a Disposable Sentry deals more than 3000 damage or gets more than 15 kills and there are no standard Sentry Guns built? Of course I'll try to test this myself but if anyone already knows and feels like putting it on the article, I think it could be useful. Adreadline 12:25, 10 September 2012 (PDT)

I doubt it will spawn due to Disposable Sentries, but around 20 kills a Buster spawns for me. Spy is not our Spy! 06:57, 16 September 2012 (PDT)
Mini, yes. Disposable, no. ==Fax Celestis talkcontribhome 09:19, 16 September 2012 (PDT)

About the Sentry Buster's smoke

"A large cloud of dark grey smoke lasting many seconds remains after detonation, blocking visibility and preventing the placement of buildings."

Are we sure about that last part ? Because i don't remember the smoke preventing me from doing anything, but i could be wrong. I just want to be sure it's true, before i translate that to French.

Pretty sure it doesn't block building placement, just makes it hard to place buildings because you can't see. ==Fax Celestis talkcontribhome 07:01, 20 September 2012 (PDT)
Well it never was a problem for me, i think we should consider deleting the "preventing the placement of buildings" part. Who's with me ? Arnaud_OrniK, dat french dude 09:47, 20 September 2012 (PDT)
Verify if it's true; if true, leave it alone, if not, remove just that part. ~Sven~ 10:02, 20 September 2012 (PDT)
I would if i could. If nobody checks it, i'll do it tomorrow evening, can't play TF2 right now. Arnaud_OrniK, dat french dude 10:50, 20 September 2012 (PDT)

Damage dealt

Would like to get two questions answered here.

  1. Can Sentry Busters damage Tanks? I don't think I've ever seen the necessary parts line up to find out.
  2. Do Sentry Busters actually deal a fixed amount of damage, or is it based on max health like a backstab? I tried giving myself 1,000,000 HP to test it and it still wiped me out, maybe someone else will have a better testing idea.

Toomai Glittershine 17:27, 19 February 2015 (PST)

Okay so apparently having +75% explosive resistance lets a 125HP Engineer survive a buster explosion with 9HP. Maybe it's slightly different based on range, but this suggests to me that they deal damage equal to about 1.25x either max or current health. Also, I think giants are immune, which would suggest Tanks also are. Toomai Glittershine 09:26, 25 March 2015 (PDT)

Sentry Buster auto-exploding bug

About the last bug added ("If a Sentry buster is unable to path it's way to an Engineer's Sentry Gun, either because of weird map geometry or otherwise, it will simply explode on or a few seconds after spawn."), should we keep on the article, and, if so, is it really a bug? The problem with having this bug listed that it can't happen on the official maps, Valve has added all necessary nobuild func so Engineer's can't build too high from the action. This is a problem I have been thinking about lately, TF2 is a game where it allows a ton of customizability, and some bugs are not applicable in official maps/missions, but the "bug" itself is not from the map, and more from the entity (the Sentry Buster, in this case). There have been other cases of MVM-related bugs that I thought adding (or even added it, and later reverted it), but it doesn't happen in official maps. An example being when hitscan players are aiming and shooting at the water THROUGH a Medic's Projectile Shield, this causes the little water effects to show up IN the shield itself and not where it supposed to be. This can occur on Mannworks if you place your sentry on the right side rock up front. There are also multiple points on almost all maps where you can stand holding the sentry and the buster will not be able to path to it, if you were holding it in one of these spots when the buster spawns it will behave the same way. Getting an assist from a Sentry Buster

There's one time I had gotten an assist and it showed that I assisted a Sentry Buster in defending the bomb or was it killing a robot I think I have a screenshot of that on steam this sounds like a bug but then again same can be done with having an enemy spy getting a backstab on your teammate while your healing them and vice-versa should this be added to bugs for the sentry buster or no? Zarioo12 (talk) 15:40, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

The intended mechanic is to have the Buster blow up friendly Robots, therefore it is not a bug that you can assist it.
