Welcome!
Good morning/afternoon/evening (delete as applicable) fellow Wikipedian! I see that you are relatively new here so you might have some issues, concerns or questions about this grand base of TF2 knowledge. If so, please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone else on the Welcoming Comittee via their talk page!
On the Team Fortress 2 Wiki, we have a coordinated set of rules called the style guide which defines what we should and shouldn't do. Consider it a holy book for editors. Of course, if the style guide can't answer your question, we have a whole hub of help that could answer your question. One very strict rule is that observation/speculation is not allowed.
If you find that none of that answered your question, please do not hesitate to swing by the IRC and ask one of many editors, moderators, even administrators. One of us will have an answer for any of your Wiki editing needs. Besides that, it's an open community of like-minded players - a place to socialise and meet new TF friends - perhaps you could even drop in at the Official TF2 Wiki Server!
With such strict guidelines and speedy editors, you might be struggling to edit, replace or improve. However, we have just the remedy for this problem! Let me introduce the tasks list! It's just the place to go to find what you want to do - be it editing, improving standards, expanding stubs, heightening picture qualities, anything. Of course, if you feel that you're up to the challenge of patrolling edits, please head to the recent changes page where you can keep up-to-date with new edits and, thus, revert any vandals or nonsense edits/images.
And that will be all from me! However, should you wish to talk to an actual moderator, their names are in green and thus are easier to find. You can also contact them via the IRC on the channel #tfwikistaff.
Thank you for helping the Wikipedia to grow, and we hope to see great things from you!

- Hello there! Rolandius 15:21, 2 August 2011 (PDT)
I've removed your edit
Hi Rolandius,
I decided to remove your edit at http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Template:Class_infobox
Some languages, like English, use capital letters in 'important' words, titles, etc. I don't think you should change "Basic Information" to "Basic information".
Also, it's not a good idea to change other languages' translations. It's their decision if they want capital letters in both words. Some languages, like German, actually requires Nouns to be with a capital letter (this has nothing to do with your edit, however).
If I for some reason am completely wrong about all of this, feel free to resubmit your edit (remember a reason for your edit). Just respond or delete this message as you please, I'll keep an eye out if you drop me an answer. Thanks.
Hachach19 05:57, 4 August 2011 (PDT)
- I guess that is okay. I was just trying to match what I have seen within other regular pages. Maybe templates should have both words in capital letters. Rolandius 06:04, 4 August 2011 (PDT)

¡Hola Rolandius!
¡Saludos!

Don't invent things
Hi. First of all, I don't know if your native language is spanish, if it isn't, please, stop editing spanish articles. If it is, read the page that showed BiBi and don't change the things you want, we are using the same words. Jag Gentleman 12:42, 6 August 2011 (PDT)
- Hi. My native language isn't Spanish, but I do know how to speak Spanish and was trying to help out. I now see the page that BiBi linked. Rolandius 19:10, 6 August 2011 (PDT)
Infobox spacing
Just so you know, the spacing in the infobox is automatically re-added by WindBOT so there is little benefit in removing it manually. seb26 20:46, 6 August 2011 (PDT)
- I see. I thought individual editors were accidently added the extra spacing.Rolandius 20:55, 6 August 2011 (PDT)
Capitals
Please, don't replace capital letter for lower case in the spanish articles. Thanx Dio ★ (talk) 06:47, 8 August 2011 (PDT)

Recent Edits
You have been changing/adding the word "the" to a lot of things that it does not belong in. A prime is example is the Mad Milk page that was butchered with the addition of the word numerous times and broke the English format/flow of the entire article. Also, please do not add words to official patch notes that are not there. If it isn't on the news page for the update, don't add it to the Wiki please. Also, your restructuring of particular articles to either take away or add plural versions of words is not necessary, as such with the Whoopee Cap page which was just entirely undone. Please read the Trivia guidelines as well to prevent X of Y trivia. Thanks, let me know if you need anything cleared up. SS2R 05:16, 9 August 2011 (PDT)
- The Mad Milk page I did mess up on. I thought there was supposed to be a "The", but looked again and it was just called Mad Milk. I thought my edit of the Whoopee Cap page was okay. Section titles
Hi there. Please stop capitalizing all the words in a section title, as WindBOT will revert your changes as seen here. —

Re: Bonk! Atomic Punch article
Saw what you left on seb's page, and I wanted to field as many as I could for you.
1 ) Its name in full is "Bonk! Atomic Punch". Valve sometimes refers to certain items on update pages by different, incorret names and it usually isn't worth noting.
2 ) I assume you changed "unlockable" in the summary. It is primarily an unlockble item, and that's how most new/less knowledgeable users will obtain it. Other methods of obtaining are mentioned in the infobox, to the right. They link to articles that buld upon the subject better, of course.
3 ) You make a good point. I suggest changing it to something along the lines of "Upon consumption, this item provides temporary invincibility from most incoming damage to the user. Bonk! Atomic Punch does not, however, protect from environmental damage or telefragging."
4 ) I completely agree, consistency is important. You're welcome to change them.
5 ) We mostly refer to is as the "flag", rather than Intelligence, but when it's called "Intelligence", it should be capitalized. That is its official title.
6 ) Ditto.
7 ) I don't think you need to capitalize resupply locker, though it feels like you should. For these sorts of things, a quick search and inspection of their main article will usually give you the "wiki standard".
8 ) It depends on the sentence structure. Some articles, like Alien Swarm Parasite, include a "the" before the name because the sentence would read awkwardly without it. We frown upon unneeded instances of "the", however.
9 ) You're correct yet again. It is an ability possessed by multiple flamethrowers.
10 ) Action taunt would be. Are you referring to, say, "Kamikaze" for Soldier's Equalizer taunt? If so, yes.
11 ) It does read a little awkwardly. You're welcome to rewrite it. If you don't, I'll certainly be the one to do so. ;)
12 ) This is a bit confusing. It's about the weight of the can in the real world, and I think keeping the links to lbs and kg is important, considering people around the world use either, rarely both. More information is always good.
13 ) Bonk! is the name of the company, so "Bonk! logo."
14 ) It's kind of a run-on. Feel free to reduce is a little. Remember to keep logic above style, however. Don't exclude information for the sake of keeping it short. It looks like this was just copy-pasted from the Bonk Boy article.
15 ) I'm afraid I can't answer this one, as I have no idea what you're talking about.
I hope these answer... most of your questions. If you have any more, hit me up personally or post on the article's own discussion page, alright?
And when writing on any discussion page (user, article, any at all), please sign your posts. You can automatically generate a signature with four tildes at the end of your post, just like this: ~~~~
Above the text box, you'll notice a line of buttons. The second one from the right will do it for you. Not sure whether you just forgot because of the length of your post or that you weren't aware, but you didn't sign it on seb's page.
--SilverHammer 00:50, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
- I agree with SilverHammer on all of these, but would like to especially address the following, as I am the one who made and will continue to make similar changes.
- 7) Resupply locker is capitalized because it is a distinct type of locker specific to TF2. Lockers, in general, are not generally called resupply lockers, the ones in TF2 are and mean something specific. On the flip side of this, in Spy related articles, I have gone back and reversed the capitalization of the C when the word cloak is mentioned. While the ability to cloak is in fact an ability of the Spy, cloaking, in general, always means the same thing. Locker, does not.
- 10) Yes, you capitalize the A in Action taunt. It is the official word for the type of taunt.
- 15) Change it back to what you had it as, your version was correct.
- SS2R 05:25, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
- 7.) Okay, so it is Resupply locker. Curiously, the patch notes refer to them as resupply cabinets for some reason. I agree with your cloak idea, but I have seen my changes of Cloak to cloak reverted by a Bot on here. I also saw the word original changed to Original for some reason by a Bot.
- 10.) Okay, so it is Action taunt.
- 15.) Done.
- Rolandius 06:01, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
Glad this was all sorted out, then. Thank you for the input, SS2R. And keep up the good work, Rolandius. c: --SilverHammer 10:39, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
- In regards to the cloak, I too have seen WINDBot change it back, I plan on asking about that because I have noticed it happen with more words than cloak, just like how you saw original capitalized. The bot, obviously, doesn't know any better. And I know the patch notes refer to them as resupply cabinets (I'm actually discovering there isn't complete consistency in the patch notes, unfortunately) but if you go to make a map, the file is indeed called resupplylocker, so that's what I've decided to make them on this Wiki. Thanks for touching bases on all these topics. SS2R 15:25, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
Again, The Edits
I'm trying not to come across as overbearing or nit-picky, but things we've talked about already, you are continuing to do. My main concern is an edit you just made on the Shovel page. I don't understand why you added the word "class" to the end of the opening sentence. The opening sentence format that is shared on literally every single other weapon page does not follow that format. What bothers me is that you just did it on this page, and didn't go on to do it to every other page. Why that one, if at all? It's frustrating that it appears you're editing at random and not having much, if any, of an impact when doing so. I will say the bulk of your edits are fine, but these consistent flow breaking/useless things you are adding to articles are starting to become a minor annoyance. SS2R 23:58, 13 August 2011 (PDT)
- I did do it to every other page. It wasn't random as I have been going through the default weapons first. I thought adding class would make it look more professional since the player is playing as classes. "The Shovel is the default weapon for the <character>" didn't look as good as "The Shovel is the default weapon for the <character> class", which it is. I think "lore" and "gameplay" might get all mixed up if it isn't sorted out. For instance, for gameplay, something should say, "A Spy can destroy buildings." as I have seen it used by Valve, or at least "The Spy class can destroy buildings". Things happening in comics or lore would look like "The RED Spy and the BLU Engineer are always at odds since the Spy likes to destroy the Engineer's buildings". In short, I thought adding the word would just round out the meaning a little better. Players aren't actually the character in-game, and don't affect the lore of a character. Rolandius 00:16, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- I don't see how any of that has to do with anything. If you are doing it to other articles, please don't continue and undo ones you have already done. You don't need to add class to any of them. Every sentence is already anchored to the class mentioned. Also, the table to the right of every weapon page also states what class uses the weapon. That more than suffices. SS2R 00:20, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Isn't that the same thing I have done? If the table to the right of every weapon page also states what class uses the weapon, that would mean Spy, Pyro, etc. shouldn't be mentioned in the article. That doesn't make sense. Rolandius 00:26, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- No, it is not the same thing you have done. If the class that uses the weapon is already mentioned, we don't need to state again that it is the Scout class that uses the weapon. Not only that, but it reads weird; imagine it as similar to this conversation.
- Person 1: "Who did you buy that bread for?"
- Person 2: "I bought it for the boss human."
- Person 2 didn't really need to state that his boss a human, we can assume that. Much like how we can assume that "the Scout" is a class in Tf2, because he is.

By adding it to the end of "the Scout", it makes the sentence read oddly and is not necessary. -Mr. Magoolachub 00:35, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- The table is a summary, the article is an expansion of that summary. It belongs in both. Check ANY Wikipedia page, format format format. SS2R 00:36, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- To me it sounds normal. Just like it has "melee weapon" in there, according to your argument having "weapon" after "melee" is odd. Rolandius 00:49, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Like I said before, in gameplay there can be as many "Scouts" as there are players. In lore, there is just "the Scout" (RED and BLU) as far as I can tell. Players are the Scout class, not the Scout seen in comics, movies, etc. I was trying to expand it a bit as it looked too short. Imagine if you read something like "Bottle is melee weapon for Demoman." wouldn't you want to expand that a bit? I just added "class" to the end of a sentence that wasn't as bad as the example I just wrote, but still short. Anyway, some of these reverts aren't needed like on the Bonesaw page. Maybe it is the "region" I am from, but something like "It is a worn, large-toothed medicinal saw..." doesn't look correct. That is why I wrote "It is a worn, large-toothed medical saw." which are the kind of edits I usually try to do. Rolandius 00:49, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- That is what I am trying to point out. The article is an expansion of that summary. Adding "the Scout class" doesn't look like a major catastrophe to the article. Rolandius 00:49, 14 August 2011 (PDT)

It's not so much expanding as it's unnecessary filler, I think. It's not really building upon anything. When you read "for the Engineer", you don't picture a real life Engineer or something, right? You picture the Engineer from the game this wiki is made for. And when the article is about the Bonesaw, and the summary is describing the Bonesaw, it's okay to use "it", since "it" is obviously referring to the Bonesaw.--SilverHammer 21:36, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- With the Engineer part, I was trying to distinguish the player Engineer from The Engineer in something like Meet the Engineer. Sort of like gameplay versus lore. Or maybe they are one and the same? With the Bonesaw part, I meant the sentence where they used "medicinal" to describe the saw. I put "medical". I think it was reverted back to my description though. "It" is fine, but what if an article has every other sentence starting with "it"? Isn't throwing in "The Bonesaw" or "This weapon" good for change? Rolandius 21:42, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Yes, they are one and the same. TF2's "story" doesn't affect gameplay much, if at all. Not really necessary or convienent to say "Scout class" every time you mention the scout outside of comics and Meet the Scout. As for "it", people usually restate the item name every paragraph or so. -Rocket Ship BBQ 08:13, 16 August 2011 (PDT)
Just a little thing, don't highlight the prefix "The" on the weapons pages, like you did on the Original page, as it is not part of the weapon name. –
Cructo [T][C] 22:05, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- It is part of the weapon's name though. Rolandius 22:19, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- It isn't, if it were, the article would be The Original instead of Original. It's just a prefix, and only the weapon's name should stay bold. –
Cructo [T][C] 22:29, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- That is because article titles don't include "The" in them. Just take a look at the Loadout Stats and you will see the name of the weapon. Rolandius 22:36, 14 August 2011 (PDT)

You should really give the style guide a good, long read. It explains exactly why things need to be written a specific way. --SilverHammer 22:40, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- I did read it. It says how to title an article, not that bolding the full name is wrong. Why have it on the Loadout Stats? Rolandius 22:43, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Try this, then. --SilverHammer 22:47, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- That says the same thing. It says don't title the article with "The" included. All I did was bold the whole name of the weapon within the article like the Loadout Stats shows it. I changed "The Original is a promotional primary weapon..." to "The Original is a promotional primary weapon..." Rolandius 22:54, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Try this, then. --SilverHammer 22:47, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
We just don't use "The" at the beginning of titles here. It looks neater, it's a rule everyone follows. --SilverHammer 22:55, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- I understand that for article titles, but I didn't know you shouldn't bold it within the article itself. Especially when "The" was already in there before my edit. I really think there should be a section on how to do things "within" an article, not just how to title articles. Rolandius 23:00, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- Why have the Loudout Stats spell it like that then? Rolandius 23:02, 14 August 2011 (PDT)
- " The" isn't really in the title of the weapons (i.e. "I love my Backburner!", "I love my The Backburner!") Also, not to be a douche, but it appears that you are farming edits, as you have done way over 500 edits in the last two weeks. I've deduced three possible reasons:
- You have lots of free time,
- You edit while you do something else,
- Or, you are trying to get a Wiki Cap
- If that is the reason you have edited so much, please, I beg you, try to avoid unnecessary edits. A single word addition to all the weapons' pages is not usually something necessary, let alone appreciated. Things that are consistent in all pages are probably grammatically correct. -Rocket Ship BBQ 08:03, 16 August 2011 (PDT)
- Or they may be incorrect across many pages? I just edit by what I have seen in consensus by other users as I learn about them. "I love my Backburner" would be correct as you mentioned, but so would "I love the Backburner" and not "I love Backburner". Rolandius 21:01, 16 August 2011 (PDT)
- By that logic, you would actually have to say "I love the The Backburner." -
nixshadow (t|c) 21:05, 16 August 2011 (PDT)
- Actually, I have seen edits like that on here. I correct them to "the" since "the The" sounds a bit off. Rolandius 23:02, 19 August 2011 (PDT)
- Exactly, which means "the" isn't part of the name. If you still deny that, I doubt you will ever realize that you are incorrect, but one final proof: Genuine Original, not Genuine The Original. Vintage Backburner, not Vintage The Backburner. Strange Flare Gun. You get the idea. It is merely a prefix. -Rocket Ship BBQ 23:30, 19 August 2011 (PDT)
- I get it. I am just saying it should be consistent. There shouldn't some prefixes that are okay to stay and others not. That is all. Rolandius 00:55, 20 August 2011 (PDT)
- Pretty much the only prefix you will find in the item names is "the". What other prefixes are there? -Rocket Ship BBQ 08:37, 20 August 2011 (PDT)
- I was talking about across all articles. Rolandius 19:00, 20 August 2011 (PDT)
- Don't extend item names across all articles. It's two different things. It's not some prefixes can stay and others cannot. It's some are prefixes, and some aren't. -Rocket Ship BBQ 19:08, 20 August 2011 (PDT)
- I'm talking about article titles. Some have turned out to be mistakes, and I have corrected them after reading these comments. Rolandius 19:17, 20 August 2011 (PDT)

The template {{move}} should be added instead. The category should not be manually added seb26 00:42, 15 August 2011 (PDT)

Re: Newspaper
Most of those can be answered by the Hidden pages article. You can include the name, just don't copy-paste it word for word down six lines in a row, it looks poorly written that way. Which specific links were blank? --SilverHammer 20:59, 16 August 2011 (PDT)
- I read the hidden pages, and they don't read the way it is read in your revert. The newspaper has a lot of sentences "WRITTEN LIKE THIS" so I showed it "Written like this". Isn't that the correct way versus "Written Like This"? I see what you mean, but it wasn't six lines in a row. The blank ones are those that I changed from Link to Blank Link. I am not sure if it is just my browser, but all the links going to http://www.teamfortress.com/engineerupdate/v00.php are blank. Rolandius 05:46, 19 August 2011 (PDT)
If you don't mind me asking.
Sorry to bother you with such a trivial question. I was wondering why exactly are you "bolding" the title's of category pages. It doesn't seem all that necessary I my opinion.

- Category pages are after all just pages. I thought they weren't exempt from their titles being bolded. I thought it was doing more good than harm. Rolandius 19:48, 20 August 2011 (PDT)
- Category pages are indeed pages but not articles. The article's subject should be mentioned in boldface. You're not necessarily doing any harm, but at the same time you're not doing any good.

- People think you are doing too many unnecessary things. Generally, for grammar, consistency, and style, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The majority of people have agreed that it is correct by not editing it. People don't really want to see your mark on every page of the wiki. Seeing that so many people have asked you not to do this, please be more cautious for your edits, and discuss anything controversial, even if it's one word, on the talk page. - I am only fixing the things that do look "broke" though. Some are plain as day as to being incorrect. As some users have said before, if they see a certain word or phrase in articles then they will change it. Why can't I do the same thing if I run into some bad spelling or grammar? I am using the talk pages a lot, including my own as you can see. I also ask a lot of questions. As for simply editing a few words, that is why there is a "minor edit" box for small things like spelling and/or grammar. Rolandius 19:28, 22 August 2011 (PDT)

Try to help you know what people don't like
I-I don't know what to say. You are, extremely different. Things that sound absolutely absurd to others sound correct or even better to you. You, um, really like to place lots and lots of what we call "unnecessary things" on pages. The fact that you have around 1500+ edits doesn't help either. :( I don't know what to say, but I would really like you to become a valuable contributor to the wiki. Like, for example, in editing grammar and consistency, consistency isn't changing everything to your way, but keeping everything the same (or consistent), and changing some pages that don't have their format same as the majority changed. Hopefully you'll be better than me at editing the wiki, as you obviously have much more edits than me. I'm not sure how we can achieve that, however. Hopefully someone has an idea that doesn't involve putting everything you want to edit on talk pages. Discuss, please? Many of your edits are changing the format to something that's also correct. I wouldn't do that, because, even though there is no one correct format, it is completely unnecessary. I give the best of luck.-Rocket Ship BBQ 21:08, 25 August 2011 (PDT)
- If my edit count is too high, just divide it by 2. Half of them are probably "minor edits" really. I don't see all of my edits as adding "unnecessary things". This is especially true when I edit things that are under the "tasks" section of things to do. I am not sure what you mean by "Many of your edits are changing the format to something that's also correct." really. Am I not supposed to change things to the correct format? Templates
Please do not change dictionary names just to correct punctuation. WindBOT will delete all the previous names of the strings and every template that used them breaks. It is also pointless to update the templates afterward for a name the reader never actually encounters. Also, removing the spacing in front of parameter names in {{Item infobox}} should not be done as it WindBOT will just re-edit it in. seb26 02:24, 6 September 2011 (PDT)
- If you want dictionary names half and half on the punctuation thing, that is okay with me. I thought it would look better following one method. Only a few parameters had the extra spacing. I thought it was some user mistake. Rolandius 06:00, 6 September 2011 (PDT)
- It is not half and a half because the dictionary name does not matter. And every page indents the parameters for the loadout box, this is a standard not a mistake. seb26 23:55, 6 September 2011 (PDT)
Hey, Rolandius!
I've often seen your name being listed in the recent changes log, but you've developed a bit of a negative background. Now, don't panic and kill yourself with Stickies; I've had this problem as well. Hell, you may say to yourself, "That's impossible! Everyone likes Fyahweather!" (actually if you say that I'll give you a second beatin, absolutely free), but it didn't happen just by monotonously editing for hours. Why not try heading over to the IRC? Dunno, but people started liking me (if randomly saying my name counts as liking me) and generally regarding me as slightly more useful. Try putting some more personal things on your userpage, like a SteamID and a backpack. Believe me, the more human you seem, the better. Humans love making mistakes. And bots like WindBot love correcting them. Don't worry, be happy. And please don't diss me and just call me an optimistic jerk who is just trying to recruit people for the IRC. I'm a Pyro, it's what we do.
Sincerely,
Fyahweather 22:00, 7 September 2011 (PDT)
- I like to call them stickies. :) Do I really edit for hours? I thought I played Team Fortress 2 for hours. :P Good suggestions. I have been meaning to expand my userpage. I put a few user info boxes and stalled after spending time trying to figure out how to make them not look like "steps". I am getting used to WindBot a bit. Usually I just try to correct any errors I find on the wiki like incorrectly titles pages and grammar. I also like working on the "lore" aspect of TF, although TF's lore is small compared to other games. Maybe I should check out other users' userpages since some of them look pretty elaborate. Rolandius 18:53, 8 September 2011 (PDT)
- Heh, no problem. Don't look at mine, though. I copied it from MogDog66, and lord knows what happened when I tried to directly copy it! Ugh. And the hours thing was a bit of a joke ;). Lore in TF2 is fun, but this is an FPS. Does Counter-Strike really have a plot? No. Therefore, TF2>CS.

Team Fortress Classic
Team Fortress Classic should not be referred to as Team Fortress (Classic). This '(Classic)' naming convention is adopted for titles of items, maps or other parts of the game where the full name of the game would be too long. I also rejected the move requests for those image and map categories. 'Map (Classic) images' to 'Map images (Classic)' is too minor a difference to warrant any change. seb26 00:36, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- What is left after items, maps, and other parts of the game? It seems like Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic are 90% referred to as Team Fortress (Classic) on the wiki. The only thing left is their respective pages and two image categories. I thought the two image categories might as well join the rest, leaving the respective pages where they are at though. As for moving the image and map categories, it was just a suggestion. Rolandius 05:57, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- Well, the game itself is called "Team Fortress Classic" according to Steam, and whenever we are referring to the game, we always say "Team Fortress Classic", never "Team Fortress (Classic)". See the 2fort page for example. We put "(Classic)" after pages that refer to things in TFC, instead of "(Team Fortress Classic)", which is too long, not used, and implies that this page only refers to the thing in TFC, and not QTF as well. -Rocket Ship BBQ 07:56, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- I mentioned that above. By the way, it is properly referred to as TF and not QTF. See the Team Fortress page for example. Rolandius 18:57, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- I'm am going to ignore your annoyance (toward me). You say "Team Fortress Classic are 90% referred to as Team Fortress (Classic)"; however, never have I seen it referred to as "Team Fortress (Classic)". And since you don't seem to believe me, it's called "Team Fortress Classic", not "Team Fortress (Classic)", according to Valve.[1] For your information, "QTF" and "QWTF" happen to stand for Quake Team Fortress and Quake World Team Fortress, respectively. I apologize for the confusion. -Rocket Ship BBQ 19:09, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- I already stated time and again that I know it is called Team Fortress Classic. You don't have to cite it. That is what the 90% was all about, not including the games themselves. It had to do with categories. I know what QTF and QWTF stands for, but I was just pointing out that TF is a bit more proper. Rolandius 19:16, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- If you know it is called Team Fortress Classic, then why did want to refer it in name by "Team Fortress (Classic)"? Also, see, this is your problem: "QTF" is perfectly fine, yet you state "TF" is more proper, as if that QTF is factually incorret. You simply believe everything should be your way. I give up again.-Rocket Ship BBQ 19:21, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- Read my posts again and you will see that I do not want to call the actual game Team Fortress Classic by Team Fortress (Classic). Just like there is a proper way to shorten "Team Fortress Wiki", "Team Fortress"' short hand looks nicer in an article sticking with one term. Reading an article referring to TF one minute and then QTF the next is confusing. Throw in QWTF and not ever user will understand that those are not three different games. Rolandius 19:30, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- Not like TF is any better than QTF or QWTF on a talk page. The average IQ is high enough to understand that they are, as a matter of fact, one game, if explicitly stated. I bother with you no more. -Rocket Ship BBQ 19:34, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- Well, you keep insisting that I want to call Team Fortress Classic by Team Fortress (Classic) after I have told you I do not a few times by now, and you don't seem to understand that. I wasn't talking about talk pages. I meant TF in articles. Not every user will know TF = QTF = QWTF. Especially when it is all mixed up into an article like it is referring to three different games. Listen there~
You have been editing the Wiki a lot, making some friends but also seemingly some not-so-friends. While none of your edits break the rules, and some of them are quite good actually (addition of the company for instance), a lot of them are, quite frankly, unnecessary, and some are kind of rude to other editors. It has caused increasing tension between editors and yourself, and this isn't really desirable. So here's a friendly reminder to follow a simple rule: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Things like capitalization are not useful edits, and most of it is already done automatically by WindBOT. Things like punctuation are subjective (multiple ways of punctuating the sentence may work and convey the same meaning), so editing an article to match your preferred style when the current style is grammatically correct is also unnecessary. Now one could argue that there is nothing inherently wrong with doing unnecessary edits; they just sit there and they don't do any harm, if both versions are equivalent, right? Well, that's not exactly true. More edits mean more database clutter, more spam in the IRC channel, more work for moderators, more (and quite tedious) work for the translators to port over those tiny changes. It also means a higher likelihood of overwriting someone else's simultaneous edit, which is very frustrating to the previous editor. So please, while I definitely don't want this message to come across as "please don't edit", I would like to ask you to slow down and, for every edit, to click the "Show changes" button and to ask yourself "Is this edit really worthwhile? Will it really help the Wiki significantly enough to be worth posting?". Thanks~ — Wind 20:06, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- Some of the not-so-friends don't seem to read my whole post. If they read the whole thing, and not just a part of it, I wouldn't have to argue with them. Which of my edits are rude? I know that I have had some rude edits against me though. The capitalization thing I copied from other users. Maybe they do it less, but I have read their posts where they say that if they see a certain word, they will change it every time they get a chance. So I thought that is what we were supposed to do. The punctuation in parts of templates making the translators port over the changes I stopped after I was told. I do look at my edits, except for grammar because they are "minor edits" and shouldn't bother people, and think they are needed a majority of the time. Being a relatively new user, I can see things that might need clarification to new users who wouldn't know what certain things mean like other users who have been into Team Fortress for awhile. I am not trying to inflate my edit count as some people have asked/think. If I run into a page that needs editing, and there is a group of similar pages, I will do the whole group versus just one page for the next year – if you know what I mean. It kind of does feel (not from you per se) that I am being asked not to edit. That is what a wiki is though. Something to edit, as long as it isn't harmful of course. If the wiki wasn't edited, except for a few days immediately after an update, it would look pretty stale. Also, not every user's interest is going to be focused on just one subject like weapons or hats. If those pages were the only kind that users were encouraged to edit, a lot of users would have nothing to edit since only so much info can be added onto pages tied only to weapons or hats. Rolandius 20:33, 9 September 2011 (PDT)
- What you seem to be doing is editing for the sake of editing, rather than actually improving the article content, which is the main purpose of a wiki. As Wind said, edits add to the database, and can generate edit conflicts with other users, who may be making major edits to articles. As harmless as you think your edits may be, they are not harmless, and the impression you're giving to us is that, again, you're editing simply for the sake of editing. Furthermore, your most recent edit to the Dispenser article added false information, as Dispensers do not have recharge times; you simply took the Teleporter recharge times and added them to the table.
- I'm not telling you to stop editing, but please, before you make an edit, take another look at what you're doing and ask yourself, "Does this edit really make the article better?" If it doesn't, then consider that the article may be perfectly fine without your addition to it. Many of your edits that I've seen are simply grammatical or stylistic changes that either do not improve the article much or impede word flow and such.
- Consider this an informal warning of sorts. You're not breaking any rules, but your edits are generating problems that we have to deal with afterwards. --
LordKelvin 13:04, 11 September 2011 (PDT)
- Is there such a thing as editing for the sake of editing? If so, I don't think I am doing that. I am trying to improve content. Improving content ranges from major to small edits. A lot of pages I edit are infrequently edited, therefore that wouldn't generate edit conflicts. Like I said above, I even followed the examples some users told me and yet I still get complaints. The edit on the Dispenser page I did mess up on as I thought those were recharge times for the Dispenser. I saw the info in another article on here and thought it referred to the Dispenser. Are you saying grammatical or stylistic mistakes are fine? I don't see why those edits are bad, especially when I click on the "minor edit" button. Why have the minor edit button if you can't use it? The whole reason for having the ability to choose minor edits is for something like grammar. As you pointed out when you said "You're not breaking any rules, but your edits are generating problems that we have to deal with afterwards.", I don't see how I would know that I am generating a problem that I don't know exists. I am following the rules. I click the "minor edit" button for things like grammar which shouldn't bother people like a major edit. I could see how it would be a problem if I made major edits to a dozen pages, but I don't think I am doing that. I don't know that you mean by "add to the database" with editing. Don't a multitude of users edit on the wiki? Are there not enough people to handle the database or whatever it is? Also, I know some of my edits have to be at least a bit useful as I do things I find on the Team Fortress Wiki:Tasks page, unless that page is a false list in order to get users to edit, and thus have something to complain to them about. Rolandius 19:21, 11 September 2011 (PDT)
Disambiguation pages
I just have a few quick things to mention regarding your recent edits. "Hat" doesn't read as well as headwear item, especially for promotional items, Promotional hat/Promotional headwear item. Also, you are making "miscellaneous item" two different links, to miscellaneous and item, but it makes much more sense to just link it as a whole to Miscellaneous items -
nixshadow (t|c) 01:09, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- I saw both hat and headwear used, so I thought I would go with hat since it was a simpler word. Headwear ends up going to the hat page in the end. I will leave anything saying headwear next time. Although, I don't really think disambiguation pages even need links, besides the actual term, since users are going to click on the term and see all that info on its page. Just my thoughts. I saw a lot links written like Miscellaneous item so I copied that style, but it does make more sense as Miscellaneous item. I will look out for it next time. Rolandius 06:08, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- Quick note, although you're anchoring everything correctly on these pages, I've noticed a few of them you have made alphabetical. While this isn't a negative per say, the pages you are doing this on had the items listed chronologically, which is a standard format all over the Wiki. Make sure you keep those in line, please. SS2R 06:26, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- Dang, you're going on a tear right now. Oh well. SS2R 06:56, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- I better stop now then. I remember the disambiguation pages I first saw were alphabetized, and even had the word "alphabetize" in them. Unless for some reason only those disambiguation pages were supposed to be alphabetized? By the way, wouldn't it be easier for a new user to look at an alphabetized list versus a chronological list? Rolandius 07:02, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- Well, if it is supposed to be listed chronologically then it should be chronologically listed. I must have skipped/forgot that format rule. Rolandius 07:02, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- All the tables on this Wiki are chronological. While I don't know of a specific rule that says these pages have to be also, if I was to make the edits you were, I would have made/kept everything chronological, as its a format throughout the Wiki. SS2R 07:07, 10 September 2011 (PDT)
- I don't think I have edited/noticed how the tables were listed. Being a relatively new user, listing them alphabetically makes more sense – for the pages at least. Otherwise, the user has to figure out when the thing they are looking for came out versus just looking at it by letter. If I knew beforehand, I wouldn't have spent all that time alphabetizing the disambuigation pages. Rolandius 07:15, 10 September 2011 (PDT)

False Edit Summaries
Can you actually put what you change on a page in your edit summaries, please? I know you might actually be bolding the title of the page, but you are also doing a bit more, such as grammar checks and all of that. Those things would be nice to see in the summary. Leaving them out is quite lazy. If you're going to spend all the time to correct the page, tell us what you did in the summary, yeah? SS2R 23:30, 13 September 2011 (PDT)
- Will do. It wasn't laziness as much as just thinking that writing the summary of the major edits done in the page was enough. I guess next time I will write something like "Bolded title of page, Grammar" instead of just "Bolded title of page" as a summary. Rolandius 21:07, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Disambignote
The disambig note should be at the bottom of the page. The reasons for this are because it's similar to Wikipedia, it looks nicer and most pages look like this and it's wasteful to change every one of them for something like this. seb26 18:39, 16 September 2011 (PDT)
IRC
Hi. You should join the IRC channel, the wiki is better when everyone can communicate at once. If talk page posts are like letters in the mail or the equivalent of angrily arguing over the phone with customer service (for this analogy), then the IRC channel is like finally finding someone human and talking to them face to face. seb26 22:25, 21 September 2011 (PDT)
- I checked it out. It seems like there are more people logged on than talking. Do most people have the IRC channel in the background until their name comes up and their computer beeps them? I only had half of my questions answered on there. :) Rolandius 21:14, 25 September 2011 (PDT)
Proper Nouns
Greetings, Rolandius. You have made a number of edits recently that you have categorised as "spelling corrections", however I feel compelled to point out that some of your changes are actually erroneous. In Team Fortress Wiki:Wikichievements/Arguments for example, you have changed a number of instances of "Wiki" to "wiki". "Wiki" is used correctly in that article, because the term is being used as a proper noun and not an ordinary noun (i.e. the content refers to the Team Fortress Wiki (a unique entity) and not a Team Fortress wiki (a class entity)). If you would, please bear that in mind when editing. ---
Esquilax 22:28, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- See Template_talk:Wikichievement#Wiki. Rolandius 22:29, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- Yes, I saw that contribution. Regardless, as long as the term is being used as proper noun in the aforementioned context (even if it is isolated and is only present in an article as "Wiki"), it should still be regarded as such. ---

- Is the wiki's Style guide wrong then? Rolandius 22:39, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- The Style guide says to use "Team Fortress Wiki" either way.. -
nixshadow (t|c) 22:45, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- The Style Guide states the preferred short- and long-hand usage of "Team Fortress Wiki", and does not mention the capitalisation of the term (i.e. "Wiki") itself. If however, you are referring to the opening sentence of that section, i.e. "When using the name of the wiki in articles, the name should be used in two ways", then that is an error that should be amended. I'll look into that. ---
Esquilax 22:47, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- I guess that is a "yes" to my question on if the style guide is wrong. Rolandius 22:51, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- Well yes and no. You were certainly correct about the error (well-spotted by the way), but the Style Guide did not actually state that "Wiki" should use the lowercase. Another of life's amusing ironies I suppose :). ---
Esquilax 23:17, 27 September 2011 (PDT)
- I thought it was a given or else it would have stated that you could use it in three ways, "Team Fortress Wiki", "TF Wiki", or "Wiki". Since it did not include "Wiki", it is saying that "wiki" is not a proper noun. Which is correct everywhere else I believe. Rolandius 23:28, 27 September 2011 (PDT)

Template titles
There aren't really any rules for template titles - they're not displayed on the main pages and so few people see them that there isn't any need to keep them consistent. Just trying to save you some trouble!

Recent API page edits
Please stop adding unnecessary template links and adding wording that makes the page flow awkwardly. There is no cleanup required at the moment and if there was your method would be going in the opposite direction anyway. No one likes to see edit wars start, and no reason to push the issue when three people have told you it wasn't needed. -- Lagg

- First, what do you mean by adding unnecessary template links to that page? Second, the last time I edited that page was 4 days ago. Third, what do you mean by I pushed the issue? Fourth, only one person undid my edit on there. Rolandius 19:05, 29 September 2011 (PDT)
- 1) The page doesn't require a cleanup, so don't use the cleanup template. 2) The wiki is not real time. Issues do not go away after 4 days. 3) You were deliberately undoing Ath's edits to be confrontational. That is pushing the issue. 4) Two people, and I'm the third to notice it. If that many people believe that the page doesn't need your edits then it probably doesn't. Adding them again accomplishes nothing. -- Lagg

- 1) Ok. 2) I understand that. I am just wondering why you replied four days afterwards. Like again today. 3) I did not start the whole unediting thing. I guess you left a note on Ath's talk page too right? 4) Two people? I count as one of them against myself or something? If one person equals "that many people" then ok. Either way, I am not adding them again as it seems you do not want that particular page improved. Rolandius 19:22, 3 October 2011 (PDT)
- Unfortunately I have not been as active on the wiki as of late due to real life problems but I try to solve issues as often as I can. Ath has been spoken to, yes. The second person not counting myself was i-ghost. It isn't the page in particular that concerns me. No it doesn't need improvement, but the problem is that your edit did not improve it anyway and only served to break the flow of the page (it made reading it awkward in other words) and your reaction to it being undone was to undo it yet again without explanation or justifying it. This is what starts edit wars and I must emphasize that no one likes to see them start and if you feel that your edit was unfairly undone drop a line on my talk page or another staffer's before taking any other action. The problem will get dealt with much faster and effectively that way. -- Lagg

- The thing is that at least some of the edit was fine. Bolding the title of the page, for instance, is in the wiki guidelines. The other thing is that I did talk to some staffers on IRC, and although I disagreed, I followed their advice. I got your message on my talk page a few days later. It looked to me as if I was getting in trouble for asking for advice on IRC. Rolandius 20:24, 5 October 2011 (PDT)
To add to what Lagg has said, please refrain from altering wording on any WebAPI pages unless you have a technical understanding of the topic in question. Your edit in regard to a single bit being an integer is incorrect. While you may think you're improving the wording, you're likely introducing technical inaccuracies. ~ Ath (talk) 04:39, 13 October 2011 (PDT)

Team Fortress 2 Cleanup?
May I ask what part(s) of the article you think need to be cleaned up? I ask because another user recently added quite a bit to the page and subsequently removed the cleanup template. I've re-added it, but I think it'd be best if you left a message on the articles talk page, perhaps with a list of things you think need to be cleaned up. Thanks! 404: User Not Found (talk) 12:42, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
- Will do. Mostly, I put it because parts of it are just copied from Wikipedia. I am not sure if there is a template for "too much like Wikipedia", and thought it might fall under "cleanup". Rolandius 19:07, 9 October 2011 (PDT)
Again with the needless edits
You have been spoken to plenty of times about this yet you still persist with these needless edits. Were any one of these edits really needed? Was it worth it to clutter up the page history for a page that isn't seen by users? Please ask yourself during your next edit if what you're about to do actually improves or adds to the article in any way. —

- Seriously dude, I know you're trying to help and all, but if it's not broken, don't fix it.". Just a little tip; don't worry about fixing the small things like uncapitalized letters and such. Worry about the bigger picture. Focus on big changes. 404: User Not Found (talk) 05:54, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- That's why people change my edits for just one capitalized word? Rolandius 06:01, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- If by people you mean WindBOT, then yes. And I reverted your edit when you took that comma out of the private profile userbox because you completely broke the flow of the sentence. That comma served a purpose, and when you took it away, you broke the sentence. There are so many other big things to focus on here and you seem to overlook every single one of them and continue to do these -1/+1 edits. This is the last I'll speak to you about it on your talk page, I mentioned this to you over 60 days ago and you persist. I'm done. SS2R 06:13, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- That's why people change my edits for just one capitalized word? Rolandius 06:01, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- People revert your edits because you're doing pointless little tiny edits like capitalizing things that don't need to be capitalized. Such as your edits to the Dictionary template and the WebAPI. You may not realize it, despite being told already, but one wrong edit in the Dictionary template/WebAPI could break a whole bunch of stuff. It's best to just avoid editing important templates and such, especially when all you're doing is pointless capitalization edits. Focus on something bigger, find a little pet project to work on, kind of like what I've been doing recently involving updating all the class emblem images to *proper* Valve-made versions (which I believe I have just finished) 404: User Not Found (talk) 06:17, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- I wasn't even talking about WindBOT or you. Also, you haven't looked at all of my edits if you think all I do are -1/+1 edits. Rolandius 06:34, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- Not everyone can do "big" edits. Also, look at the bottom of any edited page and you will see "This is a minor edit". That is there exactly for things like spelling, and shows other users on Special:RecentChanges that it isn't a major edit. In fact, a user can choose to "Hide minor edits" if they don't want to see them show up just like a user can choose to "Hide bots". Rolandius 06:34, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- I'm starting to see why you got banned from WoWWiki... 404: User Not Found (talk) 07:18, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- Perhaps you should answer the original question posed by Moussekateer. i-ghost 07:25, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't post here. Should I start talking about Awesomesauce? Rolandius 19:48, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- Okay, i-ghost. My answer is that I got a Wikichievement for my edits. Rolandius 19:50, 13 October 2011 (PDT)
- A wiki-chievement that shouldn't have been given because I can see it's triggering the same habits from your time at WoWWiki. 404: User Not Found (talk) 22:17, 13 October 2011 (PDT)

- I have addressed this to you many times before, and for the sake or recording it in a more "permanent" setting, I will repeat it. You seem to be looking for these "absolute rules" to apply to everything, these standards that can be applied to the entire wiki and then swoop in and convert everything to this "rule". The problem is that, to be blunt, 90% of all your sweeping changes have been completely useless. They are excess, unneeded padding and wasted resources. The fact of the matter is that you simply cannot apply these strict set rules to grammar, it does not work. Sure, it makes everything standardized, whoop-de-freaking-doo. Is it really worth it to have all standard spelling, layout, construction etc. by sacrificing sentence flow and general readability? Most, if not all people would agree that there just cannot be rules 'all the time', there 'HAS' to be discrepancies, and there 'HAS' to be exceptions for the sake of preserving the article's readability and not being left with these mangled, nonsensical slumps of "standard" sentences. And as a side note - I'm not sure how much you know about HTML, but editing anything inside comment brackets is literally the most useless thing that could be done, especially if it's just to fix grammar. Comment tags don't display any text, and aren't even passed onto the browser to display; they're literally not even there and editing them to "fix grammar" is something I simply cannot wrap my mind around. - In response to Rolandius' last comment; Yes, I had a 2 day ban for being a vigilante, and I admitted then and there that I screwed up. Also, an admin here pulled a dumb move (in my opinion) and permanently banned me, to which I had to kiss his ass to get it lowered to a month because I'm a good contributor. Despite those 2 bannings, I continue to work my ass off to prove that I'm a good editor. To be honest, if a discussion regarding banning you from this Wiki as well breaks out, I will be more than happy to show this little gem of a discussion over at WoWWiki to everyone. I tried to help you and mentor you, to get you to see that those small little edits aren't worth it and will only get you in trouble. It hasn't gotten through your thick skull, has it? I'm wiping my hands clean of you. 404: User Not Found (talk) 01:51, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
- i gave that wikichievement due to some of your edits being kept. i noticed a decent amount not being reverted (unless there was a LARGE time difference between the edit and undo). But now its starting to get worse after all this that im seeing, i feel like i should revoke it after seeing all this pointless stuff. sorry i honestly thought most of your edits were kept, but after seeing this i feel really disgraced in myself for giving it. i just hope the other wiki members can forgive me for such a stupid mistake.

- Benitoperezgaldos made the EXACT same argument that I have made on this very page with regards to you masking what you really do on a page versus what you say is done. You've obviously been doing this for years and it leads me to believe whatever response you have given anyone here from Moussekateer all the way down to myself regarding you doing better is complete bullshit. You are who you are. And you're gonna do whatever you want to do until you find another Wiki to move on to. I don't know you personally and I hate that this looks like nothing but an attack on you but are you really going to sit here and tell me that the WoWWiki people and us are out of line? C'mon man. SS2R 02:07, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
- Side note for you, Rolandius; I noticed in the section "Again with the edits", you stated "I think "lore" and "gameplay" might get all mixed up if it isn't sorted out.". This isn't the WoWWiki or UESPWiki. We don't have "lore". If you really want to prove yourself to be helpful, perhaps you speak another language other than English fluently? We're in need of translators for articles as a lot of articles are not yet translated, and some are outdated (i.e. the french Advanced Weaponiser article). Just try to avoid using Google translate as that can get you banned pretty quickly. 404: User Not Found (talk) 02:20, 14 October 2011 (PDT)
