Map overview
Coal Pit overview.png

Coal Pit is a community-created Attack/Defend Control Point map added in the Smissmas 2022 update. It is set in a snowy alpine base in which BLU must prevent the RED team's freeze ray from firing in order to avert global cooling.

BLU must capture control points A and B before they can capture point C, the final point, though they can capture A and B in any order. Points A and B are directly accessible from the BLU base, while they must cross through one of them in order to reach point C. RED's base is located near point C.

Scattered across the map are several flaming barrels that Huntsman Snipers can use to light their arrows on fire.

The setup timer is 60 seconds.

Coal Pit was contributed to the Steam Workshop.

Locations

Pictogram comment.png The following locations are described from the BLU perspective.

BLU spawn

  • BLU Spawn: Located in the upper left corner of the map, the BLU base is separated from the rest of the map by a tall cliff face. Connecting it to the rest of the map are two tunnels: one to control point A and the other one to control point B. Both of these tunnels are locked during setup time, restricting BLU to just their spawn and a small courtyard around it.

Point A: The Radio Tower

  • Control Point A: Control point A can be accessed by taking the left-most tunnel outside BLU spawn. The point is at the top of a hill, inside a tall wooden building called the Radio Tower. There are two exits from the BLU tunnel to this area, and they allow access to the two ramps around the outside of the point. A medium health pack is under the control point. There are also two medium ammo packs near the point building, one to the front and one at the back of said building. From Point A, there are tunnels that connect to Points B and C.
  • A-side Tunnel: The tunnel which connects BLU's spawn yard and the A battlefield. It starts out as a single tunnel, but eventually splits off into two separate exits. The exits of these tunnels form a ledge that is elevated above the rest of the terrain, requiring extra vertical mobility in order for players to get back inside the tunnel; they can also be entered by crouch-jumping onto the part of the wall jutting out next to the left entrance, then by crouch-jumping toward the left entrance while strafing right and turning right to barely land on the tunnel's ledge.
  • Valley: The Valley is the area between the two dirt Paths which lead up to the Radio Tower. There are numerous small, single-room buildings in this area. In the middle of the Valley is a medium ammo pack.
  • Paths: On both sides of the area are snow-covered paths which lead to the top of the area and the Radio Tower, bypassing the Valley.
  • Radio Tower: The radio tower houses the control point. It is atop the snow Paths at the far end of the Valley. There are two floors, the bottom directly under the control point and the control point floor. On the side of the building is a set of stairs which lead to the control point from the Valley.
  • A/C Connector: Another tunnel connects the areas of points A and C. Its entrance is located besides the Radio Tower. The tunnel splits off into two parts, the right branch leads directly to the Freeze Ray Tower, while the left path flanks around the side.

Point B: The Radar

  • Control Point B: Control Point B can be accessed from the right-most tunnel outside BLU spawn. The point is in the large structure in the center of the area.
  • B-side Tunnel: Much like the A-side Tunnel, the tunnel connecting BLU spawn with the B battlefield starts out as a single entrance that then splits off into two more tunnels. Both tunnels sharply drop off at their end, requiring players to use increased vertical movement abilities in order to access the tunnels from the side of the control point.
    • Short B Tunnel: The smaller of the two tunnels. It leads to the left, exiting next to the A/B Connector in front of a small house.
    • Long B Tunnel: This branch leads to the right and exits out on the far side of the B area.
  • Radar: The Radar is the building which houses the control point. It has three entrances; the main entrance on the far side of the area, near the Long B Tunnel, that is located atop a wide ramp. The other two entrances are located on the side facing Point C, atop two narrower ramps. There are also four windows, two on each side, which are all accessible. The roof can be stood on and has an opening in the middle directly above Point B.
  • Platform: Behind the Radar building, on the side opposite the B Tunnels is a metal platform that leads to the Balcony. Found here is a small health and ammo pack.
  • Balcony: Directly outside the A/C Connector entrance is the Balcony. It is located on an elevated position, serving as a vantage point for most of the B area. There are two ramps on both sides which leads down to ground level. Two ramps along the back wall and two separate rooms give access to Control Point C.
  • A/B Connector: Between the areas around control point A and B is the A/B Connector, which is a frozen cave stretching from BLU's A Tunnel to Short B Tunnel exits.
  • B/C Connector: Much like Point A, there exists a direct connection between Points B and C, located behind the Balcony.

Point C: The Freeze Ray

  • Control Point C: Control point C is past the first two points, and adjacent to the RED base. The tunnels leading to the other control points are on a higher level than the ground in this area. The control point is located at the top of the central structure.
  • RED Spawn Base: Located directly behind control point C, on the opposite side of the area from the A/C and B/C Connectors. It has two exits on the sides.
  • Freeze Ray Tower: In the center of the area is the giant tower, atop which sits a freeze ray. There are three floors to the tower. The first is accessible from ground level by a ramp, and from two bridges connected to the Catwalks. The second floor is accessible by two sets of ramps of which lead along the outside of the tower and one through it. The third floor is the top which contains the control point and a small room behind the point open on three of its sides.
  • Catwalks: All along the outside edge of the area below the Freeze Ray Tower are the Catwalks. These are the metal walkways which are accessible via four entrances, two from the A/C connector tunnels and two from the B/C connector tunnel, and also accessible from two ramps outside the RED spawn.
  • Ground Level: Below the catwalks and surrounding the Freeze Ray Tower is the ground level made up of broken-up ice. On the far side is an entrance which leads to the A/C Connector tunnels.
