The way Jailbreak works is pretty simple. Similar to the normal version of Team Fortress 2, players are divided up into either the red or blu team.. Members of the red team are the '''prisoners''', while members of the blue team are the '''guards'''. One person on the blue team is called the Warden, usually chosen by typing in "!w". When a blue player is warden, they will have permission to tell the prisoners(members of the red team) to do anything he/she desires, (usually a minigame on the map, or a simple command, like "stand" or "sit.") The objective of the game is for the reds to survive the minigames and become the last red remaining. When you are the last red, it is called L.R, or "'''Last Request'''." In Last Request, the red player will get to choose to play any mini game he/she wants with the blues. If the blues fail to beat the minigame with the red, then the '''Red Team wins'''. If the Blu beat that one red in a minigame, then the '''Blu Team wins'''. The other way to win the game of Jailbreak is to '''"rebel."''' Rebelling is when a red injures, kills, or destroys the blue team by using their melee weapon, which is the only weapon a Red has at the start of the game, and can usually pick up ammo later in the round. If a red(s) kill all the blues, then the red team wins. There are some basic rules to follow. When a blue is the warden, they will say on the microphone (as required to be warden, and blue for that matter) "All reds please go to the [location]." On most occasions, the Warden will tell the red prisoners to go to the yellow line, a long line that stretches in front and across the jail cells. Then, the warden must give them a specific thing to do when they get there, either crouching, "AFK frozen" (not moving) , or move around. If there is no direction indicated from the Warden for where the reds should look when they get to the line or their destination, they are aloud to look around, unless the warden said to be "AFK frozen." After those certain commands, the Warden is free to choose whatever minigame he/she wants the reds to play on the map. The other blues, or guards, on the team do what you think they'd do. They guard. All blues, unlike reds, start out with ammo and guns, which gives the blues an advantage. When a blu kills a red for no reason, it is called '''"Freekilling."''' Freekilling is frequent on poorly-made servers or servers where there are little to no admins. When a blu kills a red, they must give a reason on why they killed them. If they do not give a valid reason why, they could be slain, kicked, temporarily banned, or permanently banned. The blues spawn in an '''armoury''', where there is infinite health and ammo spawned. Once the blues leave the armoury, you can not re-enter (on most servers.) Reds, however, can enter as much as they want if they are either rebelling or the Warden told them they could go in there. The reds spawn in jail cells with usually another player. When the warden either types in a command or presses a button to open the cells, all reds must stay in cells ONLY if the blu said "out of cell rebel." This phrase means that if any red player leaves his/her cell, they will be killed by the blues. Jailbreak is set as Arena Mode, which is a "one life round." If you die, you are out of the game. A Freeday can also occur. '''Freedays''' are rounds where there is either no Warden on blu, or the cells were opened before the Warden could say "Out of cell rebel." The last way is if the Warden died during the round. You must wait 10 seconds before it is a freeday, since another Blu may take the spot as warden. On freedays, Reds killing Reds and Blus IS allowed. However, if a Blu catches a Red rebelling, they have permission to kill that Red. Blues are usually allowed to kill Blues on freedays. Freekilling is not allowed on freedays. L.R could still be gained on Freedays also.

Various types of minigames can be played on jailbreak servers. Maps may vary, but these are some of the most common

'''Fall game''': RED players are placed in a small, enclosed room with square tiling. A random square will begin glowing red, then fall into an environmental hazard. RED must survive until all but one square has fallen

'''Jeopardy''': Played much like the gameshow, RED players must answer trivia questions. Failing to answer or answer correctly will result in the player dying.
 +

 +
'''Deathrun''': RED players are placed in a hallway with traps. BLU players will activate traps from behind a wall. Game goes on until last rights are given, or until the Warden decides it should stop.
 +

 +
'''Crush game''': RED players are placed in a room similar to the fall game room. The main difference being that the squares are coloured. A colour will be shown on the wall, any player failing to stand in that square will be killed. Lasts until Last rights or the Warden decides to end it.

In addition to map specific minigames, there are Warden minigames, which may be played anywhere. The most common are

There are basic rules everyone should follow, but there are some specific rules most servers follow.

'''Simon says''': sometimes called Warden says, the Warden gives orders in the form of "Simon says do X", any played that doesn't do the action is killed. If the Warden says an action without "Simon says" at the beginning, any player who does the action is killed.
* All members of the blu team should have a '''microphone''' to help with team coordination.

* No freekilling. A Blu is not allowed to kill a prisoner or other member of the Blu team for no reason. The only exception is a freeday, but on freedays, members of the Blu team cannot kill reds, unless they have rebelled.

* Do not '''late spawn'''. Late spawning is when a Red or Blu glitches the game to make them spawn in the cell or armoury while the round is going on. This can be lead to a kick from the server.

* Members on the blu team cannot kill fellow teammates on L.R. If a red was a rebel during the round but got L.R, then they are allowed to get L.R and cannot be killed.

* No Engineer Sentry Guns allowed.

'''Last reaction, first reaction''': Similar to Simon says, RED players must do the action the Warden says. Instead of saying "Simon says", the warden will either say "First reaction" or "Last reaction". The first person to do the action during a First reaction round will be killed, and the last player to do the action during a last reaction round will be killed.

There are some guns that are unable to be used on the Jailbreak mod . Most of the time, Sniper rifles and Miniguns do not work for players on Red. They will have no ammo and still no ammo even when some is picked up. '''Drinks and foods''' like Bonk! and Sandviches are not accessible unless a "trick" is done before the round starts. When a Red is in a cell, throwing a Sandvich on the ground, and then picking it up when the round starts will cause your player to have that Sandvich(s) for the round. Drinking [[Bonk!_Atomic_Punch|Bonk! Atomic Punch]] before the round will allow you to have Bonk! for the round. Some servers may ban you for doing this, while others may not have rules against it. It all depends on the server. The [[Stickybomb_Launcher|Stickybomb Launcher]] is one of the most commonly used weapons in Jailbreak. It is very convenient for Reds, since it can go next to several blues and can kill them all at once. Other commonly used weapons are the Medic's crossbow and the Soldier's blackbox. '''Some classes are removed''' from certain servers for weapon reasons. The Engineer, Spy, and Demoman are sometimes removed from selection on certain jailbreak servers for being too powerful.

=== Types of Minigames ===

'''Pokemon''': The Warden chooses a random RED player (usually the first to answer a question correctly) to be the RED pokemon master. The RED pokemon master chooses a teammate to melee fight a BLU player chosen by the Warden.

The most common minigames on Jailbreak maps are Fall Game, Jeopardy, Deathrun, Crush Game, and Pool. Fall game is a minigame where there are falling blocks beneath you. Each block will glow red the moment before they fall. You must survive until there is one block left. The Jeopardy minigame is very straight-forward, as it is similar to the quiz game played in real life. Deathrun is a minigame where members of the Red team are put into a "hallway of traps" that members of the Blu team activate behind a concealed wall. Avoiding the traps will save you from dying. Crush game is a color-matching game. A color will flash on the wall. On the ground is usually 9 squares. Stand on the color that matches the color on the wall and you will not be crushed. Pool is not really a minigame, but an area where members of both the Red and Blu team are able to safely stay, while they think about what to do next.

There are some types of minigames that are created individually by the Warden. Some are Simon Says, First Reaction- Last Reaction, and Pokemon. First reaction - Last reaction is a game where the Warden will say either first reaction [action] or last reaction [action]. If the Warden says first reaction, the first person who does the action he/she said is killed. If the Warden says last reaction, the last person who does the action dies. Pokemon is a game where the Warden would usually ask a question, and the first Red to answer it correctly in the chat becomes the Pokemon Master. When they are the Pokemon Master, they can choose which teammates fight a member of the Blu team with a melee weapon. The Blu Pokemon Master is usually the Warden, and will choose members from the Blu team to face the enemy Red team Pokemon.

Jailbreak is a custom game mode for Team Fortress 2, originally created for Counter-strike. It is a modified Arena mode.

Gameplay

  • The teams are split as usual, with RED being "prisoners" and Blu being "Guards". At the start of the match one BLU player is chosen to be the "Warden".
  • All BLU players are required to have a mic.
  • The Warden has complete control over the game. RED and BLU players must follow his orders, if a player fails to do so, they may be killed.
  • BLU players may only kill RED players who are violating the orders of the Warden, killing RED players following orders is called 'Free killing' and may result in the Free killer getting killed by the Warden.
  • RED players begin the game with only Melee weapons available. The exception is Spy, who will have the sapper available as well.
  • RED team may attempt to kill any BLU team member at any time
  • The goal of the RED team is to kill all of the BLU team
  • RED may retrieve their weapons from the Armory
  • The Warden may give simple orders, such as Crouch walk to a certain area, sappers out (All spies must switch to their sappers), or AFK freeze (All RED players must free as if they were AFK)
  • The Warden will either Order players to a specific minigame or call a Free day
  • During a Free day RED players may play whatever minigame they wish (Or, more often, simply attempt to kill BLU out of the gate)
  • The last RED player alive any request "Last rights" (Sometimes called last request, or LR). Last rights allow the RED player to play any minigame he wishes, with the BLU team. If the reaming BLU players die, during this minigame, or fail to complete it, RED team wins. If any BLU players finish, or the RED player dies, BLU team wins.
  • Any RED player attacking a BLU player is considered to be rebelling, and will be shot on sight.

Weapons

There are some guns that are unable to be used on the Jailbreak mod . Most of the time, Sniper rifles and Miniguns do not work for players on RED. Lunch box items, like Bonk! Atomic Punch and Sandvich are not accessible unless a "trick" is done before the round starts. When a Red is in a cell, throwing a Sandvich on the ground, and then picking it up when the round starts will cause your player to have that Sandvich for the round. Drinking Bonk! Atomic Punch before the round will allow you to have the Bonk! effect for the round. Servers may have rules against exploiting this, so check before hand.

The Stickybomb Launcher is one of the most commonly used weapons in Jailbreak. It is very convenient for Reds, due to it's massive splash damage. Other commonly used weapons are the Crusader's Crossbow and the Blackbox. Certain servers may have restrictions on which Classes can be chosen. The Engineer, Spy, and Demoman are the most commonly removed, due to their strength.

Types of minigames

Various types of minigames can be played on jailbreak servers. Maps may vary, but these are some of the most common

Fall game: RED players are placed in a small, enclosed room with square tiling. A random square will begin glowing red, then fall into an environmental hazard. RED must survive until all but one square has fallen

Jeopardy: Played much like the gameshow, RED players must answer trivia questions. Failing to answer or answer correctly will result in the player dying.

Deathrun: RED players are placed in a hallway with traps. BLU players will activate traps from behind a wall. Game goes on until last rights are given, or until the Warden decides it should stop.

Crush game: RED players are placed in a room similar to the fall game room. The main difference being that the squares are coloured. A colour will be shown on the wall, any player failing to stand in that square will be killed. Lasts until Last rights or the Warden decides to end it.

In addition to map specific minigames, there are Warden minigames, which may be played anywhere. The most common are

Simon says: sometimes called Warden says, the Warden gives orders in the form of "Simon says do X", any played that doesn't do the action is killed. If the Warden says an action without "Simon says" at the beginning, any player who does the action is killed.

Last reaction, first reaction: Similar to Simon says, RED players must do the action the Warden says. Instead of saying "Simon says", the warden will either say "First reaction" or "Last reaction". The first person to do the action during a First reaction round will be killed, and the last player to do the action during a last reaction round will be killed.

Pokemon: The Warden chooses a random RED player (usually the first to answer a question correctly) to be the RED pokemon master. The RED pokemon master chooses a teammate to melee fight a BLU player chosen by the Warden.
