About Me
So, yeah, when the link to my profile page was plastered on the front page when I got my Wiki Cap, I figured that I should probably actually make this page worth looking at. I figured that I would probably get the chance to slack off once the next person got his/her cap, but I don't really like to waste work. Plus, now that I'm a staff member, people might want to check this page out of curiosity, so now I have to get back to work. Ain't life grand?
So, moving on. I first started editing the wiki back when it used to be at its old site. I was looking up some information about TF2 when I was first starting out, and found the site to be extremely helpful, so I figured that as I got to know the game a bit better I may as well help others by contributing to it. I moved here along with the majority of the editors when it became the official Wiki, and I've been here ever since.
I mainly work on the strategy part of the Wiki, namely the Community Strategies section. That's actually the part of the wiki that I started on back on the original TF2Wiki, since I also focused mainly on gameplay strategies as a forum moderator for another game that I used to play. I've been working on overhauling that entire section for the last few months, though since I don't like to remove others' work unless it's absolutely necessary it's taken a long while. I have grand plans for that section (see my Task List if you have the time), but that's something that will require a considerable amount of time.
I also dabble in template work, though usually I leave that to the ones who actually know how templates work. It's not really all that hard to grasp or monkey around with if you understand how to program on a basic level, but you'll usually want to use the preview feature frequently and avoid doing something if you aren't sure about what you're doing.
I got my Wiki Cap on March 20, 2011 (and have the IRC log to record my reaction to it), and moderator rights on April 3, 2011. I generally don't like to put my foot down on others unless I really need to (which is actually an ironic change from my previous moderating tendencies), so for the most part I do cleanup stuff. I'm also willing to help new Wiki editors when they need it, provided that I actually can or know how to help them.
You can usually find me on the Wiki IRC channel, though usually I'm idling or at work if it's Monday through Thursday afternoon. The rest of the time though, feel free to ring me up if you need me. I may not immediately respond (especially if I'm in-game since TF2 doesn't like alt-tabbing), but I'll usually make an effort to check in if I can. If it's something super-important, you can try to query me instead (i.e., send a private message through IRC), though you're probably better off finding another staff member if possible.
A few tips to newer editors
Since I figure that most of the page views coming here are because of my being on the Wiki Cap list (and the moderator list as of recently), I thought that I may as well share some tips about how to positively contribute to the Wiki:
You can certainly edit the Wiki by browsing pages and adding bits and pieces here and there, but remember that there's still lots of major projects that need help. In particular, you may want to look at any discussions here and see what's going on.
If you can, help translate in other languages
While the English Wiki is the primary information source for most players, one of the biggest ongoing projects here is translating all of the information into other languages. Much of the information in other languages is either outdated or incomplete, so helping other translators complete their work is a great way to help the Wiki. We're always looking for more translators, so if you're fluent in other languages be sure to give our current translator teams a hand.
Come onto IRC!
If looking at active discussions is too slow for you, or if you just need help, then joining our IRC channel can help you to find things to do as well. Lots of admins are often online, so if you have questions or problems that need to be solved, we can definitely help you. Our IRC groupies are very friendly and will never hesitate to help anybody who asks!
