Template talk:Cosmetic craftability list
Craftability
Yo, people. I am getting kicked out of the internets, so I am asking for your help. This template should be devided into two parts. Why? Now we have hats, that could be used a a crafting ingridient, but cannot be obtained via crafting.
So, I am running away, and, obviously, can't do it by myself. People. Pleeeeeease.
Thank you very much Limie Pie 00:11, 14 January 2012 (PST)
- Yeah, thanks. =\ Limie Pie 22:40, 15 January 2012 (PST)
Actually, we already have some of said items that cannot be crafted into, but can be used as an ingrediant, and some vice-versa. I added the now-retired hats to the template as a new section. I will need help for any translating, however, so if anyone can do that it would be really nice. Blatch 13:19, 12 March 2013 (PDT)
Updating this list
I wrote a program to update this table (or at least right now the 2nd one). Just wanted some thoughts on if it should be updated based on its current setup or if how it's setup needs to be changed because as is it's pretty massive. I've put a preview of how it would look following the current setup on a sandbox userpage here: https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/User:Jh34ghu43gu/Template:Cosmetic_craftability_list
Personally I think it's fine because it's a nice list of a lot of things in one place divided up by classes, my only concern was if the size of the table would be a strain on servers/clients as the parsing time on the edit page showed 7-10 seconds which seems pretty high but I'm not that familiar with the wiki infrastructure. - Hello, the tables look good to me, as I said in the IRC, but I don't know about the infrastructure, maybe you should ask a moderator. The Scream Fortress 2013 item pages have all "Yes" in the craftable parameter, maybe we should change that if your template is correct. Also, what about the SF 2011 items? I think there are some items missing from SF 2013 and 2014 too. Mgpt (talk) 11:49, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- The first table, based on the title, is only for what can't be used in the rebuild headgear recipe. This requires craft material to be hat. SF13 set the material to null but it doesn't seem like they did this for any other event; verified in game that I can use things like the Claws And Infect in the recipe. (Also messaged about this in IRC). After updating the 1st table I think splitting this into 2 templates might be a good idea. Jh34ghu43gu (talk) 22:26, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Long-term lifespan of this table
The tables seem to grow larger each update, with none of the cosmetics being craftable each time. Should we just add a note that specifies items unboxed from Cases are not acquirable through crafting? This prevents us from having to split up the table or find some other solution in the future, as well as significantly shortening the table. Or we could simply add a section with "Case collections" that shows the Cases that feature these items.

- Like I said in the last topic, I think this table is a nice summary of items found in cases broken up by classes that I don't think exists anywhere else. I would agree though that it's maybe getting a bit too large. Personally I'm ok with splitting the tables up again but maybe I'm the only person who cares about having such a table /shrug. If it must go I'm in favor of linking to each case's update page (These ones not the patch note pages) or the supply crate redirect. Currently the update page is more correct for the halloween cases since the bonus items are currently not included on the crate pages. (Also apologies for not updating it this SF, I was waiting for the image uploads and then forgot). Something like:
Cosmetic items that cannot be obtained from the Rebuild, Fabricate, or Fabricate Class Headgear recipes. Cases Winter 2021 Cosmetic Case Summer 2022 Cosmetic Case Ghoulish Gains Case
