Other Games Referencing TF2
Should there be a page to list references other games have to team fortress, or should they be added here? For example, one level of Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond is heavily team-fortress themed, including a wild west theme, the Meet The Spy announcer board, enemy engineers with sentry guns, and more. General References
I believe the bot name "CRITRAWKETS" is a reference to the webcomic Nerf Now, which features a recurring soldier with this name. Should it be added here or not? Kane.malakos 04:44, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
- Link us to the comics, and make sure it isn't the other way 'round ;) ~

(talk ▪ contrib) 04:45, 8 November 2010 (UTC)- [1] Here's the first appearance of the character (one of the soldiers that kills the pyro.) It's from February of 2008, so I think it predates the bots. I'm just not sure whether it's a reference to the comic or a coincidence. Kane.malakos 01:12, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
What needs fixing?
I'd like to work on cleaning up and expanding this article, but I'm unsure of what needs to be fixed and where expansion needs to take place. Could someone more experienced give me an idea of where to start? Colonelcool 19:39, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Refer to botnames

Should this article be deleted?
As far as I can see, this article consists of remarks about a map (which has its own article, and could have this fact mentioned in the trivia section), bot names (which are listed in the "bots" article), promotional items (which don't really count in my opinion and have their own articles anyway), a remark about the game's art style (which isn't really a reference), a sound effect from the second trailer (which isn't exactly a reference either, more a point of trivia), references to TF2 in other games (which is a different subject alltogether), and exactly three remarks than fall into none of these categories. In my opinion, this article is pretty unnecessary and redundant. Zoon-li 03:31, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- You're right in many respects; most of the info here is already mentioned elsewhere, such as the Lumbricus Lid reference to Worms (which is on the Soldier references page). Maybe we should change it so that this page lists references which aren't covered elsewhere, like all-class hats and items? I'll maybe have a proper look at it once I'm done re-formatting the other reference pages. Cooper Kid (Blether)·(Contreebs) 23:44, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
Myth?
Hello. I want to correct russian article, but i dont understand this sentense:
“ | Quoted text.
—
The Soldier and Demoman often reference Greek myth in their taunts of each other, especially concerning the Cyclops.
|
” |
What are taunts? Сan give a more concrete? Cyclops? Norri 03:15, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
- The taunts in question are when they shout insults at each other, usually after a domination. A cyclops is a mythological creature with one eye - it is often used to refer to the Demoman because of his visual impairment. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 05:12, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
- Thanks for the explanation! Norri 06:12, 15 September 2011 (PDT)
Achievement references expanded into own section of page?
With the announcement of several Doomsday achievements with astronomy term-based names, I went to add some of them to the reference page, but noticed the Foundry achievements on the main reference page only discuss those that refer to works of fiction. This was odd, as the achievement section of class-specific reference pages not only cover references to films, books, etc, but also covers general references, (such as the scout and spy's references to baseball and covert-op terminology, respectively).
I'm proposing that these remaining Foundry achievements are added, and since adding the Doomsday ones as well will expand the "other" section considerably, I'm also proposing that these are moved to a new "achievement" section of the page, complete with the achievement images, not unlike the class reference pages.
Thoughts?

- Support Great idea, I'll get onto it as soon as I can, just need to sort out a few things first. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 12:34, 30 June 2012 (PDT)
- Sounds good to me. I'm actually perplexed as to why the achievement references aren't listed on this page. HibiscusKazeneko 14:06, 4 July 2012 (PDT)
- Update: Added the achievement section to the page. I'm sure there's references I'm missing (including other general achievements), but it's a start. Taxiderby 00:32, 11 July 2012 (PDT)
- Sorry, I was on holiday for a few days and completely forgot that I'd intended to do this! I've added a few more to the list, categorised the existing ones and alphabetised them. Please remember that everything on reference pages is supposed to be in alphabetical order. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 04:55, 11 July 2012 (PDT)
- Ah, my mistake! I may have been mistaken, as I was under the impression that they'd be sorted by release, and not alphabetically. Thanks for helping!! Taxiderby 19:20, 11 July 2012 (PDT)
- No probs, reference pages don't follow the same rules as most other articles on the wiki so it's difficult to keep everything consistent at the best of times. I've made a rudamentary style guide here which can be referred to while editing them. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 15:27, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
- You only added the achievements for Foundry and Doomsday. Can I assume that the green light has been given to add all the other all-class achievements to the page? HibiscusKazeneko 21:47, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

Brown Bomber... Blue Bomber?
Do you think that Brown Bomber is a reference to Megaman, also being known as the Blue Bomber? Flashn00b 15:34, 4 July 2012 (PDT)
- Not really - it's a bomber hat, and it is brown. It's just alliteration. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 15:57, 4 July 2012 (PDT)
Promotional/crossover hats
E.g, the Bill's hat. (or the frying pan). Are these really references? They're in my mind a direct copy (not a reference) of material in another game. Opinions? Darkid (|) 05:35, 11 July 2012 (PDT)
- I guess you could say both, but this page is a good a place as any to list them. References, ties, links - they all fit in here. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 09:14, 11 July 2012 (PDT)
Brotherhood of Steel achievement
Should I link the Vault article or the Wikipedia page on the Fallout series? Terrogon 22:12, 15 August 2012 (PDT)
Fast Cache - caching
Should caching be mentioned in the Mann vs. Machievement 'Fast Cache'? It seems to fit in with the computer theme (RAID Array, .executioner, etc.). --ForTheOne 14:50, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
- Further to that, someone might want to improve my description of RAID. --ForTheOne 15:02, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
- Further to those, someone who knows more about shells and shell extensions than I do should add the info for "Shell Extension". -Tabs 20:10, 3 September 2012 (PDT)
All Class "Fire!" line
Does anyone else think that the line "Fire! Fire! Fire!" (uttered by all classes when set on fire) might be a reference to the infamous line from Beavis and Butt-Head? I'd like to get some input before adding it. HibiscusKazeneko 03:51, 23 September 2012 (PDT)
- I doubt that, it seems more just the class yelling "Fire!" over and over. Darkid (|) 07:20, 23 September 2012 (PDT)
Style Guide
Many months back, before I started editing, I thought I saw a Format or Style Guide around here these Lists of references, but now I can't find it Anyone remember and know where that is? Mikado282 (talk) 16:48, 6 April 2014 (PDT)

- I believe you're talking about the guide I put together after I re-formatted all the reference pages ... here it is. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 19:29, 6 April 2014 (PDT)
- Right, Cooper Kid, your User:Cooper Kid/Help:Style Guide/References, not the Help:Style guide ( I knew about the latter, sorry for the confusion, Omolong). I remembered the guide saying to sort the list of achievement references. I have been planning for months to get around to sorting the Astro-chievements and Foundry achievements, but just as I was about to do so, I checked and saw that their present order is the same as the order in the Astro-chievements and Foundry achievements articles. I see at least in the Astro-chievements case that the Achievements there are in the same order as published on the Update Page. Your style guide suggests that the achievement references be sorted alphabetically; but I strongly feel that the order of the references should be the same as the order in the Achievements article. Mikado282 (talk) 20:29, 7 April 2014 (PDT)
- The alphabetical sorting of Reference pages is down to their encyclopaedic nature (similarly some rules such as those regarding overlinking do not apply to these pages). Likewise weapons, cosmetic items etc. which are elsewhere listed in order of their release are in alphabetical order here. It just makes more sense to have a specified order, rather than an arbitrary one, from the user's point of view. Imagine trying to look up a word in a dictionary which wasn't in alphabetical order! » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 03:04, 8 April 2014 (PDT)
- Right, I follow that, but I also think that since the Achievement References are now broken up into sections by release, the sections should follow the order of the release they are covering, of only for my simple mind that has trouble crosslinking lists with different orders. Mikado282 (talk) 18:26, 8 April 2014 (PDT)
- Quite right, the sections themselves can be in release order :) » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 02:15, 9 April 2014 (PDT)

Some more references in other games.
In the Binding of Isaac rebirth, there's a challenge called "the Demoman", in which you fire bombs instead of tears that can be detonated earlier (demoman's grenades) and if you place a bomb, it'll only explode when the activable item is activated, allowing for multiple bombs to be detonated at once or after a long period of time (like the stickybombs). Could somebody add this one in the reference list? Not mentioning the brimstone cosmetic is an obvious reference... Moreover, in the Henry stickmin serie: -In Escaping the Prison (EDIT: it was actually in Stealing the diamond), a sniper can be seen on an helicopter, trying to headshot Henry -In Infiltrating the airship, not only you can use a TF2 rocket launcher to rocketjump, but also a spy, wearing a gibus (EDIT: a Gentle munitionne of leisure), can be seen backstabbing a sniper. -In Fleeing the Complex, an achievement is a reference to a heavy's quote, "Kredit 2 teem" and the description "Watching credits make me strong!", with a stickman drawing of a heavy with blue and red background. - Ok... I'll try my best to find some... Demo man challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEZtoyvDrAQ right after 0:15; playthrough of that challenge. Stealing the diamond reference (wasn't Escaping the prison): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGAV-s9Gwag beginning at 3:05; also "BOOM. headshot" used as a fail quote. Infiltrating the airship: rocketjump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbFp2H7nYMk at 4:00; sniper getting backstabbed by gibus: same video as before, at 25:00, on the right, only for a split seconds (not actually a ghastly gibus, more like a Gentle munitionne of leisure; moreover, a domination cue can be heard as the spy backstabs the sniper). Fleeing the complex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9K2p54k9GA at 30:05 (seen as an achievement icon) (Don't judge me on these videos I took the first ones I found) Supershadow30 (talk) 07:41, 10 February 2016 (PST)
Additions to the Weapons category?
Hey guys, I've started making edits and additions since it seemed kind of lacking. Some stuff is mentioned in the specific weapon's trivia page, so should I even bother? -MakeSinestroGreenAgain
- Hey. Some pages sort of overlap, but I presume that it's nice to have everything in one place, especially since visiting each specific weapon is quite a hassle.

List of references : Links to our "other wikis" pages
It has been proposed that images of the Valve IP in Other Games be added to the “References in other games” section. However, such galleries already exist in the other wikis pages for these games. I just noticed that the links to the games in this section are directly to their respective Wikipedia Page. I propose that it is better that these links be to this wiki’s “other wikis” pages for these games:
- This is an intended function of the “other wikis” pages, that all links on a subject to external sites be through a single page.
- More than one relevant external link may be made.
- Galleries of the relevant Valve IP are located where most relevant and least cluttering.
- Other relevance of the other game to TF made be also so covered.
I have made examples of this change for Killing Floor, Worms: Reloaded", and Monday Night Combat. M I K A D O 282 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃 🦃🦃 🦃🦃 (talk | contribs) (Help Wanted!) 17:33, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
