The Spy taunting his opponent

The Fencing is a kill taunt for the Spy that activates upon taunting with any melee weapon except the Sharp Dresser and Spy-Cicle.

Upon taunting, the Spy gracefully tosses his weapon to his left hand and begins to practice a deadly fencing maneuver, dealing damage to any enemies slow, unaware, or simply unfortunate enough to be in the way.

This taunt can kill enemy players and destroy buildings that are within 48 Hammer units (roughly 3 foot / 0.915 meters), past which it has no effect. The first two initial swipes deal 25 damage and minimal knockback each, while the last thrust deals 500 damage. If multiple enemies are within this range, they all take damage from both the swipes and the thrust.

As with most kill taunts, this taunt can be used to kill enemy players during Humiliation and Stalemates.

Trivia

  • Fencing is a family of combat sports. In foil fencing, one combatant must thrust their opponent in the chest or somewhere in the center-mass of the body in order to win in a bout.
  • During the taunt, the Spy has his other hand up above his head, and then he throws it back when he lunges. This is a classic fencing stance, and throwing one's hand back helps to take advantage of the momentum to quickly regain composure.
