Execution is a taunt for the Pyro with the Scorch Shot equipped.

Upon taunting, the Pyro turns sideways and aims the Scorch Shot ahead, firing a single shot. If the flare hits a target at close range, it will deal 400 damage, killing anyone slow, unaware, or simply unfortunate enough to be in the way, save for an overhealed Heavy. At medium or long ranges, the flare only deals the standard 15 damage, but still inflicts afterburn damage.

Unlike all other Attack taunts, the Execution taunt cannot be used to kill enemy players during Humiliation and Stalemates.

Update history

June 27, 2012 Patch

  • [Undocumented] Added the Execution taunt.

July 2, 2012 Patch

  • Fixed exploit where the Scorch Shot could fire its short range kill pellet at the very beginning of the taunt.

Bugs

  • The firing sound can only be heard by other players, not the player that uses the taunt.
  • Using the Execution taunt at point blank while crit boosted or utilizing a mini-crit will only deal 35 damage instead of the normal 400.
  • Using the Execution taunt when out of ammo will still fire a flare.

Trivia

  • The taunt was featured in Meet the Pyro. In the Pyro's mind, he is blowing bubbles on the cherub version of the Scout, but in reality is shooting him point blank in the head with the Scorch Shot.
