The Soldier

The Frying Pan is a promotional melee weapon available to both the Soldier and Demoman. It appears as a slightly worn cast-iron skillet with a thin film of grease caked onto the bottom.

The Frying Pan simply replaces the Shovel or Bottle without altering gameplay mechanics, similarly to the Lugermorph and the Pistol or the Big Kill and the Revolver. Critical hit animations are identical to the default weapons, as are the taunts. Upon contact with a surface or player, it will play sounds identical to those used in Left 4 Dead 2.

This weapon, along with the Ellis' Cap, are given to players who purchase Left 4 Dead 2 as part of the Sacrifice DLC.

Bugs

  • Taunting with the Frying Pan will play the respective taunts of the Shovel and Bottle. As a result, the weapon will clip through the Demoman's leg during the taunt.
  • Even if Left 4 Dead 2 is purchased after October 7, 2010, Ellis' Cap and the Frying Pan can still be obtained as Promotional Items.
  • The weapon is held oddly in the Demoman's hand in client view; it is positioned at an angle, clipping slightly into the hand. This is because the client animations are based on the Bottle.

Trivia

  • On The Sacrifice update page, the Soldier can be seen cooking maggots in the Frying Pan while the Scout, wearing Ellis' Cap, looks on. It appears the two classes are sitting in part of the map Viaduct.
