While spun-up, the Huo-Long Heater repeatedly expels rings of flame every 0.5 seconds, positioned closely to the ground and centered around the player. These rings of flame ignite and deal 12 damage to any enemies within their range, and inflict afterburn damage at the same rate as the Flamethrower. Enemies have to be relatively close to the ground to be affected by the Huo-Long Heater's rings of flame. As such, enemies can completely avoid being ignited by timing their approach after a ring is expelled, or by simply jumping over them (although this will not prevent the next ring from igniting them). However, these rings of flame come at the cost of -4 ammo per second while spun-up, regardless of whether or not the gun itself is being fired. Furthermore, they won't damage buildings and cannot deal Critical hits (though they can deal mini-crits). The rings of flame will stop appearing if the weapon is out of ammo, but can still appear when being stunned or when underwater (and with ammo loaded).

The Huo-Long heater emits constant rings of fire around the player while the weapon is spun-up, with either the primary or secondary fire buttons. Its base damage is also increased by 25% against burning players, such as those lit by its own fire rings. However, this comes at the cost of 4 ammo lost per second while spun-up, and 10% less base damage compared to the default Minigun.

In addition, the Huo-Long Heater deals 10% less damage to enemies when compared to the default Minigun, placing its individual bullet base damage at approximately 8.1 instead of 9. This is balanced out by a 25% increase in bullet and fire damage against players who are burning, such as those lit by the rings of flame. However, it should be noted that this 25% damage increase is based off the base damage of the Huo-Long Heater, and not of the default Minigun, placing it at approximately 10.1 base damage per individual bullet, which is still slightly less than the Brass Beast's 10.8 base damage per individual bullet. The damage of the rings of flame become 15 when they hit enemy players who are already on fire.

The burning you feel? It is shame.
The Heavy to a burning Spy

The Huo-Long Heater is a community-created promotional primary weapon for the Heavy. It is an antique-looking, partially team-colored machine gun made of wood and metal, which features a traditional Chinese dragon's head mounted on the muzzle of the gun and a hexagonal, chest-resembling ammo drum. The name comes from the Chinese word for "fire dragon" (火龍, huǒlóng).

The Huo-Long Heater was awarded in Genuine quality to players who pre-ordered Sleeping Dogs on Steam before August 14, 2012, or August 17, 2012 in Europe.

The Huo-Long Heater was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.

Bugs

 • The attribute 25% damage vs burning targets is missing a "+", which may be misread as the weapon only dealing 25% damage to burning targets.
 • The Genuine variant viewmodel does not affect by "Use minimized viewmodels" option.
 • The fire ring can damage enemies while underwater.
 • The ring still can have an Afterburn effect on a Pyro, if the Pyro has been injured by another Huo-Long Heater.

Trivia

 • The weapon was originally designed to be a firework cannon, but was changed into more of a gun shape at Valve’s request. [1]
 • If the contributors were unable to make the proper changes to the weapon in time, then Wrath of Wan Hu, a Pyro flamethrower with a similar theme submitted before the promotion, would have taken the Huo-Long Heater’s place. However, Huo-Long Heater was finished in time.[2]
 • The weapon's name and appearance are based on the Chinese God called Huang Long. He is a large gold (or yellow) dragon, according to Chinese mythology.
 • The Huo-Long Heater is called Sheila by Heavy, which can be seen in The Showdown comic. [3]
