The burning you feel? It is shame.
The Heavy to a burning Spy

The Huo-Long Heater is a community-created promotional primary weapon for the Heavy. It is an antique-looking, partially team-colored machine gun made of wood and metal, which features a traditional Chinese dragon's head mounted on the muzzle of the gun and a hexagonal, chest-resembling ammo drum. The name comes from the Chinese word for "fire dragon" (火龍, huǒlóng).

The Huo-Long Heater emits constant rings of fire around the player while the weapon is spun-up, with either the primary or secondary fire buttons. Its base damage is also increased by 25% against burning players, such as those lit by its own fire rings. However, this comes at the cost of 4 ammo lost per second while spun-up, and 10% less base damage compared to the default Minigun.

The Huo-Long Heater was awarded in Genuine quality to players who pre-ordered Sleeping Dogs on Steam before August 14, 2012, or August 17, 2012 in Europe.

The Huo-Long Heater was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.

Trivia

  • The weapon was originally designed to be a firework cannon, but was changed into more of a gun shape at Valve’s request. [1]
  • If the contributors were unable to make the proper changes to the weapon in time, then Wrath of Wan Hu, a Pyro flamethrower with a similar theme submitted before the promotion, would have taken the Huo-Long Heater’s place. However, Huo-Long Heater was finished in time.[2]
  • The weapon's name and appearance are based on the Chinese God called Huang Long. He is a large gold (or yellow) dragon, according to Chinese mythology.
  • The Huo-Long Heater is called Sheila by Heavy, which can be seen in The Showdown comic. [3]
  • The afterburn from the fire ring is affected by the 25% damage bonus against burning enemies - making it deal 4 damage per tick rather than 3, and 5 per tick when mini-critting rather than 4.
  • The Huo-Long-Heater used to be called the Huo-Long-Heatmaker before its name was eventually changed.
