The burning you feel? It is shame.
The Heavy to a burning Spy

The Huo-Long Heater is a community-created promotional primary weapon for the Heavy. It is an antique-looking, partially team-colored machine gun made of wood and metal, which features a traditional Chinese dragon's head mounted on the muzzle of the gun and a hexagonal, chest-resembling ammo drum. The name comes from the Chinese word for "fire dragon" (火龍, huǒlóng).

While deployed, the Huo-Long Heater repeatedly expels a ring of flame, centered around the user. This ring ignites any enemies within its radius and inflicts afterburn damage at the same rate as the Flamethrower, although it will not damage buildings and cannot deal critical hits (though it can deal mini-crits). Additionally, the weapon deals 25% extra damage against burning targets. However, the Huo-Long Heater deals 10% lower damage when compared to the Minigun, and consumes an additional 4 ammunition per second while spun up, even if not firing, making it more difficult to conserve ammo while it is revved up or fired for extended periods of time. In addition, the fire ring will stop appearing if the weapon is out of ammunition.

Enemies have to be directly touching the Huo-Long Heater's flames to be affected by it, as the ring of fire spreads from the player's feet at ground level with slight pauses after each ring. As such, enemies can completely avoid being ignited by timing their approach after a ring is expelled, or by simply jumping over it (although this will not prevent the next ring from igniting them).

The Huo-Long Heater was awarded in Genuine quality to players who pre-ordered Sleeping Dogs on Steam before August 14, 2012, or August 17, 2012 in Europe.

The Huo-Long Heater was later contributed to the Steam Workshop, at Valve's request.

Bugs

  • The attribute 25% damage vs burning targets is missing a "+", which may be misread as the weapon only dealing 25% damage to burning targets.
  • The Genuine variant viewmodel does not affect by "Use minimized viewmodels" option.
  • The fire ring can damage enemies while underwater.
  • The ring still can have an Afterburn effect on a Pyro, if the Pyro has been injured by another Huo-Long Heater.

Trivia

  • The weapon was originally designed to be a firework cannon, but was changed into more of a gun shape at Valve’s request. [1]
  • If the contributors were unable to make the proper changes to the weapon in time, then Wrath of Wan Hu, a Pyro flamethrower with a similar theme submitted before the promotion, would have taken the Huo-Long Heater’s place. However, Huo-Long Heater was finished in time.[2]
  • The weapon's name and appearance are based on the Chinese God called Huang Long. He is a large gold (or yellow) dragon, according to Chinese mythology.
  • The Huo-Long Heater is called Sheila by Heavy, which can be seen in The Showdown comic. [3]
