Plutonium isn't smart, Miss Pauling. That doesn't mean it won't kill you if you don't keep tabs on where it is and what it's doing at all times.
The Administrator on keeping tabs on mercenaries

Meet the Director is a comic that was released on May 5, 2011 alongside the Replay Update. The comic primarily focuses on Miss Pauling and an eponymous "Director" as they interview several of the RED mercenaries under the guise of a public relations stunt.

Synopsis

The story begins with Miss Pauling and a filmmaker accompanying the RED Sniper in his camper van as he drives to 2Fort. In the camper, the Director repeatedly asks questions labeling Sniper as a victim, visibly aggravating Sniper to the point of threatening the Director with physical violence. Upon arrival to 2Fort, Miss Pauling reminds Sniper that the interviews are an attempt at positive PR, intended to save face with the locals. In the next scene, the Administrator reveals to Miss Pauling her true motive for hiring the Director: keeping tabs on the mercenaries, whom she realizes pose a potential threat to everyone, including herself.

The Director attempts to interview the rest of RED, with seemingly little success. Meanwhile, an unknown messenger is being restrained and interrogated by the RED mercs - It is implied that each person interviewed has been blackmailed with potentially compromising photographs — save for the Soldier, whose collection of heads was stolen and held for ransom instead. The Administrator appears on the miniature television mounted in the now dead agent's chest and reveals she was the source of the photographs — and stolen heads — demonstrating her new-found leverage and potential modes of retaliation should the mercenaries ever discuss the terms of their contract.

Elsewhere, Miss Pauling leads the Director into a mineshaft under the guise of an interview with the Administrator. Pauling asks if she should hold off on killing him, noting he never got a chance to interview BLU, to which the Administrator says to dispose of him anyway as a potential liability, remarking that she will simply have to find some new directors.

Trivia

Page 1

  • The Sniper's last name, Mundy, is revealed in this comic. So far, every Team Fortress 2 comic has been an opportunity to discover at least one of the mercenary's names, as with the Soldier and Demoman, though it is likely that the Soldier has an alias, and the Engineer.

  • The Administrator suggests that she wants to spy on the mercenaries, though in the "WAR!" comic, a fully operating surveillance system is used for spotting the RED Spy eliminating and disguising as the BLU Scout.

  • The ammo drum on the Heavy's Minigun is missing.

Page 6

  • The Spy and Soldier appear to be wearing their beta outfits; however, the Soldier is wearing his regular uniform on the next page. The Spy keeps the beta suit for the rest of the scene. The Scout is also without his signature hat, headset and backpack.
  • On the panel just before he shows the photos of his parents, the Sniper's vest is missing, though he wears it in the previous panel.

  • The pattern on the Heavy's pyjamas, a skull and crossbones, was his original emblem.

  • Images of the Medic appear on many of the computer screens behind the Administrator, which could serve as a teaser to the currently unreleased Meet the Medic.
    • The Medi Gun-like weapon wielded by the Medic has not yet been released or seen in the game. It could possibly be the Quick-Fix, a weapon that is currently in the beta.
