The Pip-Boy is a promotional cosmetic item for the Engineer. It is a wrist-mounted computer device with a green-glowing monochrome screen, and several buttons and knobs. On the screen is a unique version of the Engineer that is posed and styled similarly to Vault Boy, with his hand on his hip and a large thumbs-up.
When equipped, the Pip-Boy features a revised HUD for the PDAs and Eureka Effect that matches the looks of the device.
The Pip-Boy was awarded in Genuine quality to players who purchased Fallout: New Vegas before August 8, 2011.
It was also awarded in Unique quality to players who purchased the Quakecon Bundle before 10AM PDT on August 6th, 2012.
Demonstration
Update history
- The Pip-Boy was added to the game.
August 4, 2011 [Item schema update]
- Changed name from "Pip-Boy 1950" to "Pip-Boy".
- The Pip-Boy can be purchased, traded, crafted, gifted and found in random drops.
Unused content
- The Pip-Boy is set up to be in Strange quality; however, no Strange variant has been released. It would count sentry kills.
Bugs
- The Pip-Boy themed HUD for the Build and Destroy Menus will fail to display while playing with a gamepad.
- If the Engineer dies while the primary PDA is equipped, right after respawning, the player will be prompted with the generic build menu.
Trivia
- This item is modeled after the Pip-Boy 3000 series. It was produced as a co-venture between RobCo. Industries and Vault-Tec, before the Great War. RobCo. produces a variety of automated devices, including robots and automated weaponry, not unlike the Engineer's own contraptions.
- This item's description references the eye-popping prettiness blurb on the 'key features' section on Fallout 3 Steam page.
