Gray Mann

Ring of Fired (also known as Team Fortress Comics #1) is a comic released on August 27, 2013 Patch. It is the first part of a six-part bi-monthly comic series.

Synopsis

The comic starts with Saxton Hale jumping out from a plane with the pilot and a stuffed yeti that he beat up in a previous comic (A Fate Worse Than Chess). After landing in Mann Co Headquarters, he suddenly meets Gray Mann who wishes to buy off his company using his policy, "if you beat Saxton in a fight, the company is yours". Gray, however decides that his daughter, Olivia, is the owner of Gray Gravel and she will fight him. Saxton refuses to fight her, and thus the company is transferred to Gray, who fires the mercenaries.

Miss Pauling finds out about this and runs to tell the Administrator, but when she arrives to the Adminstrator's office, the Administrator is nowhere to be found and on her screen, "Miss Pauling...Hide" is written: presuming she knew long before her, and escaped on her own behalf.

Six months later, the Soldier is now leading a tour of celebrities' homes where he, and a bunch of elderly women, run to Tom Jones' home where Merasmus is living. The Soldier kills Tom, and when Merasmus finds out, he calls the police immediately. Soon enough, Miss Pauling, dressed as a police officer, "arrests" Soldier and tells him that they need to find the rest of the team. Next, they find the Pyro, who is now leading a successful company; Soldier and Miss Pauling lure him out by setting fire to a skyscraper.

Gray Mann, now in charge, opens an enormous safe, which supposedly housed two hundred thousand tons of australium. Upon opening it, however, he discovers that the Australium is missing, with nothing but a gun and a cigarette taking its place. He suspects these items are from the Administrator.

The Demoman is now found hungover and fat, sitting with the Eyelander, who can speak fluently, and watching a show called Ghost D.A. He then hears a knock on the door, and after much convincing from his mother, opens it to find Soldier and Miss Pauling offering him his old job back. Demo quickly accepts, and gets back in shape.

Gray is now being inspected by the Medicbot who tells him that his Australium powered life extension machine is 19.5% depleted; soon after an unknown man tells him that they searched the Administrator's australium spots and they found nothing.

The team, now consisting of the Soldier, Demoman, Pyro and Miss Pauling, stop at a veterinary hospital to have a doctor fix Soldier's hand, which the Pyro had chopped off. While Demo and Miss Pauling deliberate as to where the remaining mercenaries are, they find a newspaper saying that the Scout and Spy will be hanged for large-scale acts of vandalism.

Pages

Trivia

  • The title page is a reference to a famous panel in the comic "Spider-Man No More!"
  • On the title page, a magazine titled "Hat-Wearing MAN" can be seen. This is a reference to the Sniper vs. Spy Update in which hats were added to the game.
  • On page 46, the back page of the newspaper the Pyro is reading is the second page of Lecture Valley.
  • It is confirmed in this comic that Tavish DeGroot (Demoman)'s middle name is Finnegan.
  • It is also confirmed that Saxton Hale's only weakness is that he cannot bring himself to fight little girls. He doesn't mind if other people do though.
