Revision as of 22:31, 30 November 2012

Just in case the Oscar mummies don't recognize the subtle dramatic undertones of the uninterrupted blood explosion that is Meet the Pyro, we can always stack the deck at the Saxxys, our own awards show. This year, expect the Saxxys to be much bigger and better, due to the imminent unveiling of another secret. Is it that we're giving Meet the Pyro five Oscars? That's not the secret, but let's just say we'd like to thank the Academy. More specifically, we'd like to thank the Academy's lawyers for not reading this blog post.

The Second Annual Saxxy Awards is a Team Fortress 2 contest in 2012 that began November 1st. The event is based on that of the previous year, the First Annual Saxxy Awards in 2011, whereas this year, users were encouraged to create videos using Source Filmmaker and upload them to YouTube™ for entrance into the contest.

The categories were best comedy, drama, action, overall, replay, or "original universe". Valve added a Replay category to the event this year to give equal representation to creators who wanted to make videos in-game. As well as announcing a new category, Valve allowed the use of non-SFM tools for editing and effects in post-production.

The Rules

  • Entries must be no longer than 5 minutes.
  • Each entry must be at least 720p.
  • All entries must be submitted using the Source Filmmaker’s upload to YouTube™ and Steam Community menu option.
  • Only entries submitted between Nov. 1, 12:00 AM and Nov. 15, 12:00 AM GMT will be considered.
  • Voting begins Nov. 16.
  • Winners, selected by Valve from the community-chosen nominees, will be announced by November 30, 2012
  • All co-creators must be finalized by submission deadline to be considered.
  • You are free to use any Valve IP.
  • If you use any non-Valve IP, you must be the copyright owner or have explicit permission from the owner.
  • Multiple submissions per person are fine.
  • Submissions must be free of advertisements.

Voting

Voting began on November 16, 2012 and ended on November 27 at midnight GMT. Voting was available to those with a Steam account and Team Fortress 2, and unlike the previous Saxxy Awards, there was no limit on the number of votes a day. Entries were shown randomly, though they could be filtered, and new ones were selected after a vote.

Players who voted during this period received a Saxxy Clapper Badge.
