It's ring-shaped, it's gift-wrapped, it's basically useless, and it's really expensive ($100!). In short, it's the most accurate simulation of an actual Valentine's Day gift ever made available to the public.
The TF2 Team

The Something Special For Someone Special is an unique item, appearing as a silver diamond ring sitting in an open blue-violet colored case with a grey felt interior, traditionally associated with an engagement ring.

The Something Special For Someone Special was contributed to the game via the Steam Workshop, under the name "Engagement Ring".

Functionality

When the Something Special For Someone Special purchased from the Mann Co. Store, the player will also receive Gift Wrap and a Name Tag to use on the item. The item can be sent to a person of the player's choosing. The recipient will then receive a notification alerting them of the proposal, allowing them to accept. If the proposal is accepted, a message will be broadcast to all servers and as an alert on the main menu, noting the player and recipient's names as well as the name used on the ring.

The gift will then turn into a pair of gold rings with large diamonds, wearable on all classes as a miscellaneous item with the names of the sender and recipient inscribed in the description: "A perpetual bond of commitment between [Sender] and [Recipient], forever and ever and ever. XoXoX".

Trivia

  • The expression "two months salary" originated from a 1947 advertising campaign by Template:W in an effort to stimulate the diamond market. This rule of thumb remains standard today.
