Was this item made by Ruskeydoo?

I was browsing the Polycount entries and noticed Ruskeydoo's entry didn't actually have this item it in. He made a cactus for the Heavy to eat. See here. So did he make this? Or was it made by another contributor, or was it made by Valve? Balladofwindfishes 22:24, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

I searched the entire Polycount forums for the word "sandvich" and could not find a single post with this model anywhere, let alone made by Ruskeydoo. I think we should look into this more, as giving credit to the wrong person would be a no-no. --Tidmiste 20:27, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Community Testing

Billy Mays and I determined that a GRU heavy with steak effect runs slower than a scout but faster than an equalizer soldier at 12 HP. We've determined the speed of such a heavy to be approximately 390-395 Hammer Units per Second. Techercizer (Keep him alive) (Run) 01:06, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

GRU Steak heavy is exactly scout speed, at 400 hu/s -- mek.png Mechlord 01:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
That it is! Thanks for fixing that. Techercizer (Keep him alive) (Run) 01:35, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

"Currently, eating the Steak Sandvich does not consume the Sandvich, no matter the health."

I really think that this is intentional, since the Steak Sandvich doesn't even heal you. AbeX300 05:40, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Incorrect, removing. -- mek.png Mechlord 05:46, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Wait, but you are saying that this is not intentional that is not consumed, yet you said you are removing it, saying that it is intentional... Huh? AbeX300 05:48, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
The Steak Sandvitch is consumed when not on full health. -- mek.png Mechlord 05:55, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Damnit

Why'd they have to fix the speedheavy trick :-( Untouch 14:14, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

As disappointing as it is, this isn't a forum sorry. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 14:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. Try this a'way. – Smashman (talk) 14:24, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Bugs are not bugs

As I tried to point out on the page itself (and got rightfully reverted), I'll bring this here. 2 of the bugs are likely not actual bugs:

"Attempting to drop the Steak Sandvich will drop a normal Sandvich instead. It functions in the same way as a normal dropped Sandvich." - Unless they intended for others to pick up the steak with all its given effects, having it drop a normal Sandvich would make more sense. The steak doesn't heal, and there would have to be some other system for determining when players would pick it up and when they'd just walk over it, since it wouldn't count as a normal health pack. (Of course, it could just happen that they'd get all effects when walking over it no matter what, but since a dropped Sandvich is far less effective than an eaten Sandvich, they might want to find some way to nerf a dropped steak.)

"The remarks that the Heavy makes after consuming a Buffalo Steak Sandvich are identical to those after consuming a Sandvich." - This seems likely to stay this way, as the same thing happens with the Demoman (referring to all melee weapons as his "bottle of scrumpy") and nothing has ever been done about it; for example, no new lines were added in those cases and I doubt they will for the steak. Plus, this isn't nearly as much of an issue of consistency, since according to the name the Steak is still technically a Sandvich. (However, this issue over the Sandvich lines does apply to the Dalokohs Bar, and since that's not a Sandvich, it's a logical issue, but it can still be explained away by the Bottle Clause.)

I'd suggest either finding an explanation or deleting them. —烏Γ (kaw at me), 04:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Your logic is flawed. Just because 'nothing has ever been done about it' does not make it any less significant. The purpose of the wiki is to inform players of relevant information pertaining to the game. If we follow your lead and bury our heads in the sand about these things, what good will come of it?

Lets say a player in game uses the Steak. After seeing that when he drops it it magically transforms into a bread sandwich, and that when eating it the Heavy exclaims it's made of bologna, the player will come to the wiki for answers. Currently, the wiki answers them with 'it's a bug/graphical error, it's not intentional, it will be fixed at some point.' And it's not just the wiki who believe this, but the Steam User Forums are littered with people noticing these 'bugs' and bringing them into the light. You, on the other hand, would answer these players with 'it's nothing, ignore it. Valve clearly intended it because it's been there forever'. Your answer does not give the whole picture, and only incites certain players to add it to the page anyway. So you accomplish nothing. --Focusknock 10:27, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Did I ever mention anything about significance? No. I simply pointed out that Valve never did anything about the Demo's melee weapons using that line, and based on history I predicted they'd probably not do anything about the Steak. And I said that since it's called the Buffalo Steak Sandvich, some of the Sandvich lines would actually be appropriate (for example, "Sandvich and me going to beat your ass", but NOT "Don't run! It's only ham!").
I also never said to ignore it, or that they "clearly intended it". I noted that they MIGHT have wanted it to work this way because it doesn't directly heal anyone, and it would work on a dynamic completely different from a health pack. I only suggested that having it turn into a normal Sandvich would possibly make more sense.

There is every possibility that Valve will rectify the Demoman's melee weapon lines, as well as the Dalokohs Bar and Steak lines. Until then they are graphical errors and, I feel, need to be notified. Whilst having them in trivia may be more suitable (especially as some people have very strict definitions of what is a bug), they would then be subject to the trivia guidelines, which clearly state anything 'obvious' must be removed. As such they are in a predicament if people start arguing whether they are bugs or not. --Focusknock 16:46, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm not saying it's not possible. I just don't think it's likely to happen. —烏Γ (kaw at me), 18:59, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Uh, that source.

Google is not a valid source for...well anything. Might wanna fix that. --Vaught 16:48, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Switching weapons with Steak

I was not able to replicate this bug. Did they sneak a Schema update in over the weekend stealth patching it? Or is there some sort of timing needed to switch to your minigun? I was always locked to my melee weapon when using it. Balladofwindfishes 06:26, 4 July 2011 (PDT)
