Dead Ringer Critical Error

it seems that Hinaomi has a history of reverting people's bugs and errors without consent and with complete disregard for his fellow wikians (just look at his talk page). The dead ringer has a serious error that gives every player the ability to know when he feigns death. I made a critical bugs section that I believe should be distinguished from the "casual bugs" that do not impact major aspects of gameplay. If these edit wars continue I ask that an admin will get involved and arbitrate a solution. --Wennerj 11:11, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

It's against the style guide to have such a section, just add it to the normal bugs one. rZ 11:15, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Video Demonstration

I'm working on it. SilverForce 21:28, 3 April 2011 (UTC)SilverForce

Do you want me to put the words "There is not a Weapon Demonstration for this weapon! Help us by adding one!" (adding one links you to Weapon Demo page) Boynedmaster 19:16, 11 October 2011 (PDT) I have a video of me (pyro) attacking a spy with the dead ringer. It shows the feign death and him running of invisible on fire. Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBq_1fHtnVw&feature=youtube_gdata_player . Feel free to edit it and use it. This page is not Weapon demonstration page. If you need to talk about them go to here. Hinaomi 06:19, 3 November 2011 (PDT)

Test needs to be done

If you Disguise as a friendly player with katana will you be 1 hitted by enemy katanists? I bet you won't. Someone should test this. --SandeProElite 19:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

It is very obvious that this would not be a one-hit kill, and thus, a proven spy-checking tactic. Of course, the chances of a spy being disguised with the Zatoichi on his team are very slim.

Sound/volume levels?

I know that the DR uncloak sound is louder than the others, but I'd like to know by how much, and how much the Saharan Spy set mutes it. The file scripts/game_sounds_player.txt says that a normal uncloak is 100% volume with 85dB falloff (attenuation; how much quieter the sound gets with distance), and the feign death uncloak is 70% volume with a 75dB falloff. It also says that a "reduced" uncloak is 50% volume with a 40dB falloff, but that may not be for the DR.

Where should this info go on the page, if at all? Should it be added to the other "watch" pages too?

Impiaaa 11:54, 14 August 2011 (PDT)

I agree that this is important information that should be added to all watch pages. I ~think~ that the 'reduced' uncloak is a holdover from before an update, when spy watches would decloak louder if you ran out of cloak instead of right clicking. Jm (talk) 09:40, 25 June 2015 (PDT)

Hummingbird Engraving

Does anyone know why there is a hummingbird engraved on the Dead Ringer? The closest reason I could get was that decloaking sounds similar to to the "Highland Park Hummingbird", Chrysler's gear-reduction starter motor, introduced in the early 1960s. However some other research shows that hummingbirds are a symbol for eternity since they beat their wings in the pattern of an infinity symbol. But this is contradicted by the fact that hummingbirds are also a symbol for joy and happiness (Not exactly the Spy's forte).

Question on Trivia

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume this has been asked ad nauseam, but it isn't in any recent history that I can see. Wouldn't 'dead ringer' also (perhaps more loosely?) be a reference to how it was practiced in some areas to tie a rope (connected to a bell) around the wrist of those who were assumed deceased and buried so that if they were in fact alive, they could signal for help by ringing the bell? Id est, if they aren't alive, then they wouldn't be able to ring the bell, and thus no sound. However, if they were alive they'd ring the bell and signal that they are alive - similar to how the Dead Ringer makes a loud noise signaling that the Spy is still alive.

I apologize if this actually has already been asked, but I haven't the time to check.

Higher view model's w/ sapper

If you hold the dead ringer and sapper at the same time in a higher view model, you will see 3 hands. 1 holding the ringer, 1 holding the sapper, and 1 that just floats there. Should this be added as a bug? TubbyMonster 21:17, 26 March 2013 (PDT)

Ehhh its only if you have the view model that far out. Its the same as the sharp dresser. Its really visual and doesn't affect gameplay. Ashes 21:53, 26 March 2013 (PDT)

Activation Decloak sound

Lately when activating the Dead Ringer; the distinct loud decloak sound's been playing even when I've never actually decloaked. However, judging from the behaviour of other players who believe the feign, the sound is not actually heard by them, only me. I was just wondering has anyone else been having the Decloak sound play once activating the Dead Ringer?

Dead ringer page is confusing IMO

Today, I made a very extensive change to this page, because I feel the dead ringer mechanics are very complex, numerous and currently poorly explained. On the current page for example there is no information about whether damage taken reduces time cloaked or only reduces the time for which you take reduced damage. This is an important property of the weapon. In addition the page currently consists of a wall of text with no clear direction: facts are presented but with no clear grouping or flow. I felt that something needed to be done. Evidently Hinomi disagreed with the way I went about it. Nevertheless, I feel that some change does need to be made. Does someone else want to give it a shot? Or perhaps hinomi could say what he wants the page to lok like and we can work from there? Greekgamma (talk) 09:14, 20 July 2013 (PDT)

After talked with i-ghost and Cobaltcakes, they both said the same that the old version seem fine. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 09:18, 20 July 2013 (PDT)
Work any information you feel is lacking into the existing text rather than rewriting it outright. i-ghost (talk) 09:22, 20 July 2013 (PDT)
ah, I understand. However I feel that the lack of information available is if anything less serious than the poor presentation of the information. Does anyone object to my system of using "supercloak" in order to explain the complicated flicker/ not flicker properties of the DR? Greekgamma (talk) 09:32, 20 July 2013 (PDT)

my deadringer does not work

when i try to go cloaked it does not make me cloaked The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stickeyjumper999 (talk) • (contribs)

Not sure if you're being serious on this or not, but. You have to take damage for the cloak to activate. Ashes (talk) 12:33, 14 January 2014 (PST)

Fake body is broken

Recently i have seen bodies of dead ringer spies which are really shrinked and that actually reveals the spy. I really think that's a glitch. Moomi (talk) 12:29, 10 July 2015 (PDT)

Dead Ringer Possible Bugs

So I noticed recently that when a Spy has the Intel in CTF or SD, then his dead ringer won't activate, nor will any of the other invis watches for that matter. I don't know if this is a bug, or something they did on purpose, cause I've combed over the update notes both for it and the game in general, and I have found nothing to do with this. Cause I for one was a major user of the trick where you dead ringer, the intel drops, you wait till they drop their guard, decloak, and then backstab them and take the Intel again. Same sort of concept for the other two watches. Also, in the new gamemode with the beer, is the Spy supposed to lose his beers when he dead ringers? That's kinda unfair. Wouldn't it make more sense for the Spy to drop a fake beer, just like he does with the ammo box? - Gilded Shadow 12:10, 9 October 2015 (ADT)

Intel with cloaking was disabled overall. can't use any cloaks with the intel. It is intentional. Not sure when it was done but it's not a bug. Its for balancing reasons.

As for the beer, most likely intentional to drop the beer. Its a fake death but it still needs to look legitimate by dropping beer. Ashes (talk) 09:14, 9 October 2015 (PDT)

Dead Ringers don't appear in the kill feed for spectators?

Hummingbird or Sunbird?

Thought this was worth bringing up, since someone on reddit said that it was a sunbird, although the change looked to be reverted. If anyone could get confirmation on whether or not it is a hummingbird or a sunbird, that would be great. --HyperDan2000 (talk) 21:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Ask a Kansan or non-doped Coloradan; it is a hummingbird, likelihood, beak, feet, and, especially, the tail. M I K A D O 282 oOOOOo oo oo (talk) (Help Wanted!) 23:57, 11 May 2019 (UTC) 00:00, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
