Where was the description found? I only find the trading card which is not quite the same. E rac 02:11, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Class Badge

So uh, which one do we stick with? The Bomb one is on the Meet the Demoman page, but the Demo that's on the page doesn't even have a class emblem on him to begin with :/

I got a RED and BLU version of the one that's on the in-game Demoman. -- Vi3trice (talk) 14:55, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Nice Vi3trice, they'd should be included in the trivia section like the beta Soldier's.--Kid Of The Century 13:53, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Yep, nice one Vi3. Stick them on the page, in the bio and move the ones currently there into the trvia. -- Smashman... (ts) 13:55, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Sticky Launcher is the Primary weapon

Look at his loadout section.. The Unbeholden 09:15, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Well the sticky launcher is secondary, but for crafting purposes its primary. same with the revolver, its primary, but for crafting purposes its secondary M-NINJA 23:04, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
And why Valve does that strange things? when they release a new grenade launcher (if they do that) it will be a chaos. --Jagoba RL 17:37, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Demoman has a new emblem

jpwto2.jpg

Where would the emblem be stored (like the other ones on here)?

Spotted this change as well. Curious why Valve did this. In any case, I don't seem to understand your question. Could you rephrase it? --Vaught 00:00, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Where would the emblem be placed on the article. The answer to that would probably be the Bio. MasterOfTheXP 02:59, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

The watermark (in the upper left) will also have to be replaced. I have no clue how to go about doing that, though, nor do I know who made and/or posted the previous ones on the other class pages. Boomsta 03:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Could the creator of the stickybomb emblem watermark pass me the picture of the stickybomb? It would be really useful for me and I don't feel like ripping it off the background. Uzikus 17:45, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
This is a little saddening for valve to change this. Then again his primary weapon is controversial. M-NINJA 22:32, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Still requesting the new emblem in teamcoloured form. Uzikus 13:12, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Is it yet another new emblem in the companion cube pin promo photo with the demo and pyro? It looks like a stick of dynamite with a fuse, haven't seen it in game. http://www.teamfortress.com/companioncubepin/ BASEBALLFURIES 15:42, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Related Merchandise

Should this section really exist in this article? The merchandise is related to the Demoman, but it smacks of advertising and isn't encyclopedic. ButteredToast 16:16, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

I kind of agree, the merchandise are not in-game TF2 items so it is a bit inappropriate for them to be put on the Wiki which should be talking about the game TF2 and not real life collectors' merchandise. Tkj 09:15, 29 August 2011 (PDT)
Well all the items there are sold by Valve anyway, so it's not really advertising. The section has been there long enough now, I think it's safe to stay. » Cooper Kid (blether·contreebs) 11:15, 29 August 2011 (PDT)

Where did you find the card textures?

Hello. I am trying to find the textures for the cards in PNATI, and I was wondering where you found the images for the cards shown in this, the Scout, and the Heavy articles. Hi. 21:41, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

No taunts as a con ?

I thought that the list only mentions the drawbacks of the weapones from in-game , for example : I don't see that "No taunt" as a Pictogram minus.png  , and the in-game Loudout for any weapones doesn't show up a red text like saying that there is no taunts , from my point of view i think its pointless , its not even an actual bug to mention . --– Gin_Ginster (talk) 18:28, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

The taunt attack is somewhat useful as a insta-kill for snipers and distracted heavies, otherwise it would be 2-6 hits, possibly allowing them to get away.Eligitine 18:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree, I don't see the lack of a taunt kill as a con. Rather, it's a pro on weapons that do have it. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 19:02, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

i really think its better to remove it / change it into Pictogram plus.png  or Pictogram info.png  , because it might confuse people like me D: --– Gin_Ginster (talk) 19:12, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Sticky Launcher is the Primary weapon... again?

Has this now changed as of the 15th March 2011 update? I don't know if it happened to anyone else but my loadout slot for the Grenade Launcher and the Sticker Launcher have changed, along with the rest of the weapons in those slots. This happened to anyone else? I editted it to accomodate for this change but it has been reversed so I'm discussing this here. JakeSanchard 00:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Huh? Sticky launcher been the "primary" weapon loadout wise as long the loadout system have existed as far I can recall. I noticed no change with the latest patch. Ailure 23:56, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I meant in the loadout menu. The two slots have been switched but they still have the same "slots", if you know what I mean :S I'm not even sure I do tbh JakeSanchard 01:14, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
I could sworn it's been that way since forever (though if I had a older version of TF2, I would had checked out to be sure ._.), and the only reason sticky launcher is not binded to 1 instead of 2 on the keyboard is probably a holdover from TFC. Which admittedly adds to the confusion, personally I don't even think of them in terms of primary and secondary while playing demoman as both have their strong uses. Ailure 09:18, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Demoman is now offensive?

According to this page from the new TF2 layout, the Demoman is considered to be an 'Offensive' class. I'll change the page to reflect this, but if this is a mistake on Valve's part, please disregard the edit and revert. Wingless 00:54, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

It was a mistake. He's now Defense again. Valve probably just screwed up. --Skunk :3 01:37, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

The booties

The table lists the booties as secondary (i.e. shield slot) but for them to take effect the need to be equiped witha shield simulataniously, so shouldn't they go in the primary ('nade launcher slot)? Guybrush20X6 00:08, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

It's confusing, but Demoman's GLer is actually secondary Balladofwindfishes 00:10, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
No, the Grenade Launcher is the Primary Slot weapon. The Booties are directly affected by the shield, and are secondary, like the Gunboats. SilverHammer 00:12, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
In-game, the Demoman's GL is considered the secondary; whereas stickies or shield is the primary. In the real world, it's the other way around. Either way, the Booties will take up the Grenade Launcher slot, as it completes the set. If you look closely at the sword's details, it states that all ammo becomes health, signifying that this new setted Demoman will not have to worry about ammo since he won't have stickies or a grenade launcher. Primary/Secondary switch up

I think that it is a major bug that the Demoman's Primary and Seconday slots are different on loadout menu, and when in actual gameplay. Does anyone else feel that this should be listed as a bug, as it has caused some confusion. DJNerd 15:04, 4 July 2011 (PDT)

No, this isnt a bug, just a questionable setup on Valve's part. Why they did this, I dont know, but its not a bug. That said, it should be noted in the weapons section. Dr. Blutengott 18:59, 25 July 2011 (PDT)
But it is a bug in the sense that the Demoman is the only class that has this problem. Maybe it is intentional because the Demoman is drunk, or at least none of the other classes admit to being impaired by drugs or alcohol. DJNerd 21:00, 25 July 2011 (PDT)

Double Images

It appears that one of the concept arts has been added to the page twice. I do not see anything in the guidelines about this, but feel that one should be removed. I want to get a general concentus about this before actually removing anything though. DJNerd 06:21, 6 July 2011 (PDT)

Reducing the infobox

Is there a way that we can combine "Eyelander, HHHH and Nessie's Nine Iron" into one entity for the info box? I know that the information is necessary but they are all the same weapon and then having things like "Ali Baba's Wee Booties and the Eyelander, HHHH or Nessie's Nine Iron fully charged" takes up quite a bit of space. User M-NINJA Signature.png 20:28, 19 July 2011 (PDT)

Pictogram plus.png Agree Absolutely. We might as well use Eyelander on any page that uses all three, with certain exceptions (like the taunt kill article). Balladofwindfishes 06:30, 20 July 2011 (PDT)
Pictogram plus.png Agree I've been adding the new golf club to lots of pages referenceing this. I think the best thing to do is use the generic term head collecting weapons. » Cooper Kid (Blether · Contreebs) 07:29, 20 July 2011 (PDT)

How much of this was copy+pasted from TF2wiki? Or was it the other way around?

Yes, copy-pasted. Compare the two pages and read their content. "Though his weapons lack long-range pinpoint accuracy, the Demoman is a powerful, if unpredictable, asset..." "Excels at swift disassembly..." Et cetera. I'm not sure who copied who, but it makes slightly more sense that this wiki would first, since TF2 wiki has been up longer. Demoman using solider weapons?

I was messing around with the "itemtest" today and I realized that the Demoman can use his "Bottle Taunt" when holding a solider weapon, and same for solider using the demoman's weapons. Should this be trivia or just be left out because you won't see it in gameplay? DrDoughnut 17:50, 13 August 2011 (PDT)

Unused Content

So I saw the "unused content" on this page which said "In the GCF, there exist an unused texture for Demoman's beta BLU head (Both teams use the same head), his beanie has a blue hue, and his facial hair is noticably low quality and blocky. It is listed as demoman_head_blue." I don't know who wrote this, but it is completely wrong, as when I looked through the GCF, there was one texture for the Demoman's head. I have removed this from the page since it was not true. Dweet 14:32, 18 September 2011 (PDT)

Incorrect Tide Turner information in the Demoman's Secondary Weapons Template Table.

In the template table for the Tide Turner the notes read, "Secondary fire makes the player charge forward at high speed, adding critical hits at any point of charge to any melee attack. Any enemy hit by only the shield charge takes 50 or more damage." This information is incorrect and should read "Secondary fire makes the player charge forward at high speed, adding mini-crits at half charge or critical hits at full charge to any melee attack. Any enemy hit by only the shield charge takes 50 or more damage." I would correct it myself, but in attempting to do so it tells me that the template has been deleted as of July 17th, eventhough it's still clearly visible on the Demoman main article. RED Point and Shoot.pngBlk_Mage_Ctype 09:30, 28 July 2014 (PDT)

I see that and it is correct. But i would also test this out with the other shields to see if valve fixed it in general or only for the tide turner. Grenades not in ammo boxes?

This might be a standard aspect of the game, but I can't find it mentioned anywhere on the wiki. My supply of grenades can only be replenished from the supply cabinets at the spawn points, not from any other sources (dispensers, ammo crates, picking up dropped weapons). Is this a bug? -Captain Video (talk) 01:00, 10 May 2015 (PDT)

Last Name

Demoman's last name in dutch means "The Great", trivia maybe? Liamix (talk) 13:47 , 15 May 2017 (EST)

Last I heard, Groot could mean just about anything. (Yes, you are tall.) Seriously, not sure. I mean, what point does it make, other than weirdness? What does DeGroot mean to the storyline or game mythos other than "My, it's odd to have a Dutch-named family in western Scotland."? So, if it is just a random Dutch name thrown out just to be weird, then, no, it's not trivia (not notable). But, what if it is not? Then, research it to see if there is more to it than, oh, "It's a Dutch name." Tavish is a Scottish given name, fine (meaning twin, as in two). But, ah, Finnegan, makes me think of Black Irish as a reference pun (they weren't black). OK, DeGroot; so, in the American Colonies, there was a term Black Dutch; nobody really knows now what it meant then, other than to guess it might have meant a swarthy (darker complexion) European (e.g., Spaniard) (they weren't black). In the 18th century, it came to mean people of African or Native American decent passing for European ("I'm a black, Scottish cyclops."). And, back to Tavish, yes, Black Scots is a real thing, this time with real people of African descent (they were and are black). So, lots of trivia, but some speculation as to what, if anything Valve was thinking before or after the fact. Who wants to finish the research and write it up? Mikado282 (talk) 20:10, 15 May 2017 (PDT)
Black Dutch is a term originating from the Colonial Period that referred to people having (or using) Dutch or German names who did not appear to actually be Dutch or German. Early Black Dutch are presumed to have been Latins or Slavs; but, later examples included Native Americans and Africans. Black Irish and Black Scot were similarly used.
Note that in this sense Black Scot does not include the conjectured Ethiopian/Egyptian enclaves in Scotland that have been theorized to have been sold off into slavery during the Clearances.
My dad had that ancestry.com genetic test done; even though we carry a very German surname, we carry only trace German blood; so, technically, I am Black Dutch. My "Scottish" ancestors crossed the North Channel multiple times; so, I guess I'm Black Irish, too - or Black Scot, it's complicated. Mikado282 (talk) 21:31, 28 May 2017 (PDT)

Re-adding the edit lock?

As of late, there have been many edits to this page that have been incredibly racist. I believe that an administrator or moderator needs to re-activate the edit lock on this article. This may not be a good idea, however, as a very major update seems to be on the horizon. Maybe the mods can limit the edits to only a certain level of users and above?

Who added the "Unused" Demoman Head Trivia?

An identical texture appears in Marphy Black's Beta-Style Demoman Mod. It's not in TF2 Version 0 or the SFM Beta. So I question who added it. I asked him whether he created it or Valve did, to which he responded. "I 100% made it. It was based on the head found in the gibs texture." This quote was from yesterday. Repressing history of self-identification?

Regarding the reversion back to Black Dutch : From the Wikipedia page, w:Black Dutch (genealogy) has significant history as self-identification for people of several different races and ethnicities. You refer to one inside-politics usage that was derogatory, but clearly one that would not apply to a black man with a Dutch name. The self-identification is culturally significant, even if the history behind such self-identification is unfortunate. Black Dutch (genealogy) is inclusive of Afro-Dutch people, while Afro-Dutch people, as particularly defined in the Wikipedia page, excludes those with Demoman's family history, that of an obviously European surname and centuries of family history within Europe. Even in the German section, a predominate use is self-identification, not derogatory.

M I K A D O 282 ⊙⊙⊙⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ (Contact Mikado282 (SM)) | (contribs) (Help Wanted!) 03:12, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

I never felt any of it, in the self-identification sense, to be derogatory. Ask Barry; He introduced himself as "... Barack Obama of the Moneygall Obamas, and I've come home to find the apostrophe we lost somewhere along the way." While Obama is a Kenyan surname, his joke about the lost apostrophe is about how Irish his name can sound, that is, "O'Bama," especially with a paticular vocal stress.
M I K A D O 282 ⊙⊙⊙⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ ⊙⊙ (Contact Mikado282 (SM)) | (contribs) (Help Wanted!) 03:32, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
The Black Dutch genealogy page talks about the term in the US and how that's used (and specifically how it refers to German people), as opposed to the Afro-Dutch link which talks about black people in the Netherlands. I think the Afro-Dutch people link is the better one because the Trivia is about the surname being Dutch, not about people in the US with distant German (sometimes even non-German) ancestry.
