Light colors

Some weapons have team multicolored lights. The stickybomb launcher just has plain white lights. - Devozade 11:54, 16 December 2011 (PST)

I think it has to do with whether the weapon is strange or not. My sticky launcher's weapon icon is multicoloured but the lights are white only (nanosheep_inc) 16:29, 16 December 2011 (PST)
If we look in the model and it looks like it's supposed to be animated, we can probably conclude that there's some kind of error/mistake/bug. Can someone verify that the Festive Stickybomb Launcher is even allowed to be team-colored? All the others are. – fashnek (talk·c) 15:45, 17 December 2011 (PST)
The deal with the white lights is probably due to the Sticky Launcher still being one of the original models that doesn't have support for RED/BLU. So if I had to guess Valve just went for the easy and made the light's white. --Org 01:23, 19 December 2011 (PST)
Shouldn't the bat's lights be in white colors if we go by your theory? Drsteiner12 22:49, 6 February 2013 (PST)
Bat's light is team color. And how dare you talk on discussion that ended around 1 year? User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 02:52, 7 February 2013 (PST)

Strange festive rank table started

I've taken the data from STS and the regular strange ranks table and made this:

ID Count Name
0 10 (no rank)
1 25 Singular
2 45 Commodius
3 70 Kind-Hearted
4 100 Friendly
5 135 Notably Joyful
6 175 Cheery
7 225 Good-Natured
8 275 Plentiful
9 350 Generous
10 500 Magnanimous
11 750 Gregarious
12 999 Bountiful
13 1000 Philantrophic
14 1500 Revered
15 2500 Merry
16 5000 Totally Ungrinchlike
17 7500 Jolly Old
18 7616 Saxton's Own

Before including in the main article:

  • STS only shows 18 ranks, so the counts are probably wrong. Rank 0 has an empty string.
  • Rank zero's an empty string... I've put in a message (in English and Italian)
  • All the dictionary stuff seems to be missing

--Bp 01:47, 18 December 2011 (PST)

I seriously doubt that is what the ranks are. I think the ranks are the same... Davo 14:41, 21 December 2011 (PST)
These are the "Spirit Of Giving" ranks. To confirm if they are related to Festively Strange/Strangely Festive items, we should simply ASK an owner of said item and see if the higher tier ranks match this. Sven 14:51, 21 December 2011 (PST)
I swear I saw a Strange Festive Scattergun achieve Uncharitable rank on Saturday. I'll look around, see if I can obtain a strange Festive and rank it up... Davo 14:54, 21 December 2011 (PST)
Well as we can see here, the Spirit of Giving's ranks are actually different... --Bp 17:26, 21 December 2011 (PST)
Pictogram nope.png Nope Please see this image. BTW, I subst'd your template here because I've marked it for deletion. – fashnek (talk·c) 22:07, 21 December 2011 (PST)

The Bat

Alright there appears to be some back and forth about the bat. As far as I can tell the bat only shows up as Strange. I can't find any trace of a Unique one, except for some random data on TF2Stats, but since it's such a small number I don't exactly trust it. Is there a verifiable backpack link that shows a Unique Festive Bat? --Org 01:25, 19 December 2011 (PST)

Drunken_F00l. The same people that have BMOC and Ebenezer are the ones that have non-Strange Festive Bat. – fashnek (talk·c) 10:09, 21 December 2011 (PST)

Confirmation that the Bat must be Strange

Ok, I contacted the support to ask if the fact that there were no Unique Festive Bats was a bug/glitch and got an answer. Here is a link to the answer.
Because I contacted the French support, I will put the translation here :

Me.

Thanks for the quick answer.

I already saw that answer on the Wiki, but no source affirm that the weapon must necessarily be Strange (this remains a suggestion from the members/players). It looks like a glitch, unless it's wanted by the developers.
Do you have any source? This would allow to complete the Wiki with a 100% reliable source. :)

Cordially,

Support.

Hello,

According to my sources, the weapon must be strange.
Feel free to contact us again if you have other questions.

Cordially,

So, according to the support, the Festive Bat MUST be Strange. It's not a glitch, nor a bug, it's a choice from the developers. :) The preceding unsigned comment was added by DaTa (talk) • (contribs) 18:05, 21 December 2011

Just keep in mind that just because they said it must be Strange does not mean it was an intentional choice rather than a mistake. – fashnek (talk·c) 10:13, 21 December 2011 (PST)
Good enough for me to say that it can only be uncrated as Strange. The random unique ones out there due to however they showed up shouldn't keep the page from saying what is the normal case. A note about the unique may be appropriate though at the end of the page. --Org 14:31, 21 December 2011 (PST)
On the Naughty crate description, the contents of the crate list all but the Bat twice. Probably not a coincidence. — C2Talon (c/t) 01:53, 23 December 2011 (PST)
It seems the concensus is that this only exists for non Valve employees as a Strange Festive Bat, and that this should probably be noted on the page..but it hasnt been. The ONLY non-strange festive bat i could find was in Robin Walker's backpack At the moment the page says "Festive items are available in both Unique and Strange quality." which simply isnt true for the bat, it is not available in any real sense in Unique quality. So, ok to change what wording needs to be changed and finally make a note about the festive bat perhaps including a link to Robin's backpack? Govcon 13:07, 11 April 2012 (PDT)
Not really necessary. Valve developers can drop anything they want for themselves, with any quality, level, attributes etc. See how the Origin of the item is a "Steam Purchase"? Since you can't "buy" it, it was probably handed out in an unusual way. That'd be the same thing as listing possible Vintage variants of items due to Steam Support bug in, let's say, Bill's Hat, Max's Head, Lubricus Lid etc. Just say that it can only be obtained in Strange quality and let it be.  –  Epic Eric (T | C) 13:12, 11 April 2012 (PDT)
Just add an exception blurb. Simple. SS2R 13:15, 11 April 2012 (PDT)

Festive Stickybomb Launcher "bug"

When viewed in certain backpack viewers, including Steam's built in viewer, the SLer's icon still uses the old multi-colored light icon. Would this be a bug we should list? Note this happens on Valve's own backpack viewer, so it's not a third party bug. Balladofwindfishes 06:40, 1 January 2012 (PST)

Nothing to do with TF2; their cache simply hasn't updated. i-ghost 06:48, 1 January 2012 (PST)

strange festive sandvich can't into counting

The use count for the Sandvich is really buggy. Instead of counting sandviches eaten, it seems to count how many increments your health goes up while eating. Seems to happen more on idle servers where your health is draining, might also count if bleeding, but I can't really test it. http://youtu.be/Q8wC-cj3SsU example here, it jumps up 10 uses after just eating one Redjarman 00:11, 21 December 2012 (PST)

And then it got patched today, that was quick. Redjarman 11:13, 22 December 2012 (PST)

Frontier Justice

Is it just me, or does the Frontier Justice have the same battery component for both RED and BLU teams? Modulus365 17:46, 31 December 2012 (PST)

Good eye, that's one for the bug list I'd thinkRedjarman 17:58, 31 December 2012 (PST)

Festive Huntsman cannot be used in Mid Evil

I know right now that the Festive Huntsman Can not be used in Mid evil mode in Team Fortress 2 ,Witch i am Disappointed because i would like to use it in the Mid evil mode.

Bugs

Apparently these points aren't bugs, at least according to one user. Can somebody explain to me why that would be the case?

  • The Festive Holy Mackerel plays Bat sounds instead of its normal sounds. Just like the original Holy Mackerel, it can deform when using crits.
  • The Festive Axtinguisher and Festive Sandvich do not glow when crit boosted.
  • Like the Neon Annihilator, the Festive Axtinguisher lacks a physics model, causing the item to awkwardly float in the air on death.

You cannot tell me that Valve intentionally had the Festive Holy Mackerel making metal instead of fish sounds. You cannot tell me that Valve intended to have items without crit glow. And most of all, you cannot tell me that floating items on death are intentional.

So what's up here? - Selbi 05:25, 5 January 2013 (PST)

F.Holy Mackerel sound issue: If you add that, Saxxy, Bat Outta Hell, Memory Maker, Freedom Staff, Warrior's Spirit and many more will have that to note too.
F.Holy Mackerel deform issue: Noted at its section. (Holy Mackerel)
F.Axtinguisher and F.Sandvich crit boosted issue: Noted at their section. (Axtinguisher, Sandvich)
F.Axtinguisher physic model issue: Noted at its section. Also not only Neon Annihilator, even Wrap Assassin, Disciplinary Action and many more happen that too.
Problem? User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Hinaomi (talk) • (contributions) 06:48, 5 January 2013 (PST)
The difference here is that it's literally the same weapon. It behaves identically to the normal Holy Mackerel, it only has some extra festive lights attached to it. There's no excuse for not also having the normal fish sounds.
Just because the normal weapon has it as well, why not this one? It even states "Just like the original Holy Mackerel, it can deform when using crits.".
^
Why is "Other items have it as well" an acceptable excuse? Why not just add it to every page then? A bug is a bug, you know, whether it's on one item or on every single one.
Yes, problem. - Selbi 08:01, 6 January 2013 (PST)
Notice how the Festive Holy Mackerel redirects to the original? There is your answer. Since it's basically a reskin its assumed it functions the same. Sound bugs and clipping issues are usually noted on the original. (clipping should stay out though). Adding it to every page would just make it excessive and a pain to remove manually if valve decides to fix it. Ashes 11:14, 6 January 2013 (PST)

Using a festive as a crafting ingredient

Not that I ever would, but what would happen if (for example) you tried to craft a Battalion's Backup using Reclaimed Metal and a festive Buff Banner? OK OBVIOUSLY it wouldn't result in a festive Battalion's Backup, but would it create anything, or would it just say "Crafting Failed:No Matching Blueprint" ? Noobyorkcity 10:19, 1 April 2013 (PDT)

It still counts as a weapon so yes you probably would still make the weapon but not "Festive" obviously. Ashes 11:06, 1 April 2013 (PDT)

New 2013 Festives

Is it just me, or are these new Festives kind of weird looking? I personally think the Festive Sapper looks like a fruitcake. Anybody else have any thoughts about the new 2013 Festives? Legomaster445 (talk) 12:41, 23 December 2013 (PST)

This discussion would belong on the SPUF. This discussion page is about the festive weapon page itself. Not about looks and thoughts. Ashes (talk) 12:46, 23 December 2013 (PST)

Early festives? (Australian Christmas main menu)

It looks like it has smaller, comparatively discoloured lights and duller wiring, which is strange considering that the main version of this image with the normal knife exists and is used as well. lol no 12:05, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

It might be an early festive, but it's not that notable imo.

Descriptions of festive variants on weapons?

I saw that an user has writed the description of the festive variants of some weapons. I'm not sure about reverting those edits, because is a good initiative. However, i can understand that maybe they aren't in the correct place. So, maybe we should add a section where we describe the festive weapons (no for the festivized, as they would only "is the same weapon with lights")? · Ashe (talk) 02:46, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

I think it should only be if it has something unique to it. Such as the Backburner getting antlers, or the Bonk getting a new can and a straw. For weapons where it's just lights, it's not necessary imo.
