Sniper's Class Badge

The Sniper's badge is not quite accurate. The entire background, other than a small team-colored ring, should be yellow. (I could provide a screencap from the SDK if necessary.) Dotchan 21:13, 25 November 2010 (UTC)dotchan

Trivia

An admin once told me that bugs concerning items or character's models shouldn't be listed on the Trivia section, so I was wondering if we should remove the last line of the Sniper's Trivia, which says "The Sniper's world model is only seen with a fingerless glove on his left hand, and a watch on his left arm, where all of his view models have a glove on both hands, and no watch. (Viewmodel_fov must be set higher to see the watch, or lack thereof.)" Allukard 07:25, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Bugs shouldn't really be listed in the trivia section, you could delete it and create a bugs section and list the bugs there.Jarhead 04:16, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Jarhead

Little outfit changes.

Should it be noted that Sniper is the only class to have actual outfit changes with weapon switches?(Huntsman he'll get arrows added to his quiver, Sydney Sleeper the bullets will be changed to darts)CloudT 04:45, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

Also, (this is a really small outfit change) with Darwin's Danger Shield, he gets some small teeth around his belt that are attached to the sash that keeps the shield on him. Presumably crocodile teeth. Pierow 05:23, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Pierow

Nah sorry, I don't think that's noteable. GeminiViRiS User GeminiViRiS Doubleface.jpg Talk Contribs 05:26, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Speculation for Sniper's first name

After thinking about it for a bit, I'm pretty sure Sniper's first name is Dick. Why? Well, "Crocodile" Dundee's name is Mick Dundee. Swap the first two letters, and you have Dick Mundee! Ha, fool proof. Not to mention that a lot of sniper players are dicks! [citation needed] Oh yeah, I'm on the ball right now. SilverHammer 00:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

That...makes absolutely sence! It's an awesome theory, but obviously we can't add it, yet. So...Deeck Mundy, Sniper's name. Next one better be Scout's! GianAwesome 00:46, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
This logic is foolproof. It's basically canon now. Right on. -- Babygirl User Babygirl avatar.png 00:48, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

As an Australian myself, I initially jumped to the conclusion that his name forms a hideous pun: Barry. Barry Mundy. Your extremely cheesey reasoning has not dissuaded me from this theory. Just something to consider. Jish 11:58, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
I've been wondering, the outdated wiki listed his name as Richard Mundy, don't know where this name came from. Maybe anyone has any information about this? Trent Easton 09:09, 15 November 2011 (PST)
That's just because Dick is a shortened form of Richard. Anyway, let's keep this discussion on the forums shall we? » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 10:29, 15 November 2011 (PST)

The Sniper's first name is actually Rick according to one of his headwear named Ritzy RICK'S Hair Fixative. Rick also sounds similar to Mick (From Crocodile Dundee). So scratch Dick and Richard, his name is Rick. Which City in Australia?

Well, I'll have to assume that the Sniper is from Adelaide, a city in South Australia, after I saw this flyer:

About the Snipers speed

Isn't he slightly faster when zoomed in with the Sydney Sleeper compared to other sniper rifles? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dawngaward (talk) • (contribs) 11:00, 15 February 2012

There should be a new sniper?

Can we get a new sniper that would be able to use for quick-scoping? I know, this may sound stupid, but how about the charge would start from full when you first zoom in, then quick go down to 1% as you keep zoomed in. Maybe also you could decrease the scoping time for more effective quick-scoping? I just like CoD too, so that's why I want something in TF2 where you could quick scope. Maybe this could be something like a rush class for the sniper. Erak606 18:27, 13 March 2012 (PDT)

Bazaar bargain minor error

Right now the description for the bazaar bargain says '+ 10 charge increase per second'. 'Charge rate increases by 10%' seems better in my opinion. Same story for the penalty applied whem missing. It's a minor fix, but I still thought I should post it here rather than fixing it right away. K-Raider NL 05:06, 9 April 2012 (PDT)

Possible trivia piece?

While messing around in Source Filmmaker, I saw what seems to be a bruise on Sniper's right thumbnail. Is this real, or were my textures screwing up? If it is real, is it interesting enough to put in the trivia? Sigoshi 21:10, 21 November 2012 (PST)

Darwin's Danger Shield special abilities are incorrect

It shows the +25 hp but not the bullet damage resistance or the vulnerability to explosive damage that was added in the last patch. possible movie reference

Okay, so the sniper's name is listed as "Mr. Mundy" and supposedly his full name is "Mick Mundy" I think this is most likely a reference to "Mick Dundee" from "Crocodile Dundee"

Is the name "Mick Mundy" official? If it is, I think the connection is trivia worthy. --PyroGothNerd (talk) 18:49, 19 February 2014 (PST)

Sorry for the late response. Anyhow, Mundy could still be a reference to Crocodile Dundy...if you guys want to wait and see, though, I totally understand, with all the name confusion that's been going on for most of the characters. Maybe we'll find out his official name in the next TF2 comic, since Ms. Pauling, Spy, and Demoman are going to find him. --PyroGothNerd (talk) 05:21, 10 April 2014 (PDT)

Sniper response reference

The response "This is going to be a real piece o' piss, you bloody fruit shop owners" is a reference to a shooting in Australia where a sniper targeted people who ran fruit shops. I don't know much about it, but this should probably be in trivia. I will not add it in because once again, I don't know much about it and it would be too vague.

Sniper's Birthplace (Clarification)

I found a lot of users debating the birthplace of The Sniper in the edit history. Before you edit, I just want to say this: The Sniper was born in New Zealand. He was raised in Australia. Here is proof (Pages 75-89). Got it? Thank you. Dan9er (talk) 13:24, 25 July 2015 (PDT)

Weapon descriptions

"Friendly Pyros and Soldiers with the Righteous Bison and Engineers with the Pomson 6000 can light arrows to add fire damage." sounds odd, should it be changed to "Friendly Pyros, Soldiers, and Engineers can light arrows to add fire damage with any Flamethrower, the Righteous Bison, and the Pomson 600" or "Friendly Pyros, Soldiers, and Engineers can light arrows with any Flamethrower, the Righteous Bison, and the Pomson 600 to add fire damage"?

Also, the Sydney Sleeper has both the stats "Scoped shots extinguish flames on wielder and allied players." and "Unlike the Jarate, this cannot extinguish burning allies on hit". Is the second stat an error or referring to the fact that you can't extinguish with a noscope, which is already stated in the first one? Sydney sleeper update

the weapon information on the Sydney sleeper on this page give incorrect information about jarate not working on player. with the new update the Sydney sleeper now extinguished allies so it should be changed.

The Sniper and his sex life

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkSXpe6iaPY&feature=youtu.be Lowrie says that the Sniper likes Bangkok prostitutes and sheep. There's a transcript hanging around somewhere but O can't link. Honestly though, I think I know where he figures in Hale's little comment on "Drunks, Defectives, Sex criminals and War criminals". Harley Quinn hyenaholic (talk) 14:42, 27 September 2016 (PDT)

Until we get official confirmation by Valve, leave that out and consider it unofficial. Same reason why we don't say his first name is Mick. --User Dr. Scaphandre Golden Ghastly Gibus.png Dr. Scaphandre 15:46, 27 September 2016 (PDT)
User McRela BloodyHell.gif
Seriously? Harley Quinn hyenaholic, you really think that should be here? O_o McRela Holy Mackerel.png 15:51, 27 September 2016 (PDT)
I know it's frikkin' hilarious, is what it is, and nothing in canon has contradicted it yet. I also know that this Wiki is hideously argumentative about what counts as canon. I mean, the VA says in an IC interview that his character likes sheep, and yet because Valve personally hasn't said it, people say it might possibly not be true and we can't say it's true. How do you think Fanon becomes Canon? Harley Quinn hyenaholic (talk) 15:52, 27 September 2016 (PDT)
Goes back to what I said on why we don't say his first name is Mick despite his action figure saying it is. We don't have official confirmation by Valve, and as far as we're concerned Lowrie could've just been joking. --User Dr. Scaphandre Golden Ghastly Gibus.png Dr. Scaphandre 15:58, 27 September 2016 (PDT)
Well yeah, it kind of IS the point that he's joking. This is Valve and Team Fortress 2 though, which is a place where fanon is kind enough to become canon and it wouldn't have become canon if we didn't joke about it first. Heh... The best way to make it canon would be to make a hat that the Sniper bought in Bangkok. Or possibly a jacket made of wool that reminds him of his first girlfriend, at least in my opinion. Harley Quinn hyenaholic (talk) 16:27, 27 September 2016 (PDT)
Even so, the wiki is not a place for fanon. We're the "Official" wiki after all, and we rarely make pages about fan content. So until it becomes official, leave it out. --User Dr. Scaphandre Golden Ghastly Gibus.png Dr. Scaphandre 16:32, 27 September 2016 (PDT)

What the heck is going on with Sniper's description?

Sniper card front.jpg

It says "Half rugged outdoorsman, half alien observer, this taciturn strip of beef jerky has spent the better part of his life alone in the bush, slow baking under the Australian sun." Is this really the official description of the Sniper? Is he really beef jerky? Graysocks (talk) 06:43, 3 November 2017 (PDT)

It's not the official description from the official TF2 website, but it is the description on the Sniper trading card to the right.
Strangely, some articles (e.g. Scout, Soldier) use the TF2 website's description (I think - I did update the Soldier's bio but maybe it was in fact from the trading card, I didn't check), while the Pyro's and maybe others (too lazy to check) use or even cite the trading card as the source. You could either add a reference to the Sniper page or combine the current bio with the official one from the website, like Demoman did. ⇒Leaderboard class spy.png Anyar (talk/contributions/giveaway) 14:58, 3 November 2017 (PDT)
That's some interesting character description, at least we know it's real. Anyways, I don't think I can actually edit the sniper page, as it was locked or something. Graysocks (talk) 22:56, 3 November 2017 (PDT)
And for a man who’s been in the sun all my life, my skin is pretty soft. I should be beef jerky!
Graysocks, know your meme (skip down to Online Reaction).
The description is mostly colorful metaphor (except, obviously, for the half alien part; that turned out to be spot on), which is the point of most of the Valve class bios, mostly written by "old guys". Mikado282 (talk) 03:42, 4 November 2017 (PDT)

Sniper's Garand Thumb

Fun fact;

If you open the hwm sniper model (from tf_movies) in SFM, and look at his right thumb, you can see that it has a different colour on the nails than all of the other nails on the other fingers! This is a reference to the "Garand Thumb", an accident that involves getting your thumb pressed when reloading a M1 Garand.

Hit Reg

Sniper has a confusing hitreg. If you scope really fast into someones head and shoot instantly it doesn't count as a headshot. Also if you flick really hard sometimes it hits the head without it being even close to the player.
