Better lighting?

Some of these sheen colors are undetectable. Agonizing Emerald for example, I had no clue what sheen color I was looking at. Is there no way of getting some better lighting to accentuate the sheens? I'm certain the wiki has other sheen images that show the sheens off beautifully. 404UNF (talk) 05:05, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Also the larger images seen in User:Hinaomi/sandbox/Template:Sheens looks a lot better than having all that extra whitespace around the 100px images in the current version. 404UNF (talk) 05:08, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

Use of outline

Hi, folks.

What do you think about the {{outline}} template? Edits got reverted twice, so please let's have a civil discussion this time.

I personally think it's a good idea, since it makes so white text on certain colored backgrounds isn't as hard to read.

Additionally, I don't think that reverting edits because "this is the only page that uses it" is a valid counter-argument. There's no reason to not improve things. — Tark lm(pt-br) 02:47, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Pictogram cross.png No For me, it's for consistency. I don't like the idea of using the template to highlight a word. Sure, it's more readable, but we can just simply remove the color from the nameplate instead of adding another template to workaround it. And not to mention that this templates and Template:Killstreakers are the only templates that use the color name plates based on effect colors. Pictogram plus.png Support Much nicer to read with the outline imo, and as Tark said - no reason not to improve things. Killicon flaming huntsman.png VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 06:35, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
Pictogram plus.png Support Edit without outline, Edit with outline (Just for comparison). It personally doesn't make much difference for me, but I understand if it does for others. I'd prefer if it was done on every name for consistency (At the very least, put it on Mean Green, too. I have the most trouble reading that with its current background).

Pictogram neutral.png Neutral I can understand the concern for consistency here, however that can be retained by adding said template to similar elements or simply keeping it exclusive to sheens/killstreakers. It would be essential to use it on the rest of the cells as Swood suggested, as that would retain some level of consistency as well.
Overall, it doesn't make that much of a difference but it's a nice touch. On the contrary, I have mixed feelings on the backgrounds - they do a fine job highlighting each sheen/killstreaker - but it may also be a bit too much visually due to the bright background colors, so whether that should be kept or not is up for debate. Pictogram comment.png Little of column A, little of column B I'm all for consistency and if it's being used here then something similar should be put into place on other templates where text can be hard to read. As well, I'm not sure if all browsers support the styling used to make the outlines yet. That's something to look into before moving forward. 404UNF (talk) 03:14, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
It is supported by most browsers. [1] [2]
re: backgrounds: how about colored text on black background instead? Something akin to {{War Paint Gallery}}Tark lm(pt-br) 03:59, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
I can do the preview real quick. Here is the preview (Still prefer smaller size, rather than make it fit the page width with ugly spacing.) User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 12:11, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
This one looks quite nice too. I'm having a bit of trouble with the Villainous Violet as it doesn't really stand out from the black background, but then again I'm red-green colourblind so it might just be 'an issue on my end'. What do others think about this one? Killicon flaming huntsman.png VasyaTheWizard (talk) • (contributions) 12:32, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────I was already thinking we should add a colourblind option, but I'm not really sure how to/if that's possible.
GrampaSwood (talk) 12:59, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

I can set the color to use the custom instead of using clase="nameplate", this was the example about how it look if we use the dark bgcolor w/ color texts. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 16:15, 14 July 2020 (UTC)
Wasn't really aware of those changes to the War Paint gallery. It certainly makes it a lot more visually appealing, but that would render the outlining unnecessary in this case. Again, in order to retain consistency we should inherit the styling from the War Paint gallery. If not, then I'd strongly propose making the font bold for better readability. Updated the preview to test with bold texts. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 00:20, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
It's been over a week and this topic is still not reach the consensus, so I gonna cast the vote again. Right now, we have 2 options.
  • Use the {{outline}} to highlight the text
  • Change to dark background color, colorize the text
I am for the second choice, when it reach the majority consensus, I gonna update this, as I have to fix stuffs like ugly spacing and tweak somethings in there. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 01:24, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, it's 3 yes, 1 no, 2 neutral(-ish) votes (which seem to be worded in a supportive way more than an unsupportive way). Also for making the text the sheen colour (here), I personally have trouble reading the purple one and I've heard other people have trouble with that background colour and reading certain colours. (The background colour is very similar to Discord's dark mode, and when I was admin in a big server I saw ppl say they aren't really able to read it properly.)
GrampaSwood (talk) 07:31, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
I can give this last option, if you guys still cannot reach consensus. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) • (contributions) 00:53, 27 July 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, not a bad take. I didn't state this before but I feel like we're straying away from the the color scheme, although I'd admit the dark background works nicely and the default palette won't look good in this case, buuut I think I've found a solution to our problem. As you can see, instead of changing the background- or text color, all that is needed is some nice borders to do the trick — text remains free from outline and still readable and the border work as highlighting while not creating too much focus. I also changed the image sizes because I felt it was too small, also considering how dim the sheens are it's hard to notice.
If we choose to go with this format, then I could set up classes for grade qualities as well so that the styling is easier to apply. User Wookipan Golden Strawberry.png Wookipan (talk | contribs) 19:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────If this border color system is gonna apply to the other page, I'm support this way. as it doesn't lose the readability, while retain the color scheme.
