The Tough Break Campaign was a three-month event introduced in the Tough Break Update in which players could complete skill-based contracts to be awarded one-of-a-kind weapons and exclusive weapon cases. Participation in the event required a Tough Break Campaign Pass. Using the Campaign Pass converted it to a Tough Break Campaign Stamp.

Contracts

Participating players were granted two contracts each week during the event. These contracts could be completed at any time during the event, but players lost access to uncompleted contracts when the event ended. Players who joined the Campaign after the initial week had access to the same number of contracts as players who joined on day one.

Each contract had a number of skill-based objectives that awarded Contract Points (CP) upon completion. These included one or more Advanced objectives that awarded Bonus CP. To complete a contract, players had to earn a total of 100 CP from that contract's objectives. They could then turn in the contract immediately, or earn an optional 30 Bonus CP by completing Advanced objectives. When a contract was completed, the player was awarded a Campaign-exclusive weapon skin or weapon case. The contract's CP was also added to the player's CP total listed on their Campaign Stamp.

When decoding or completing a Contract while connected to an officially registered server, players would have heard one of Miss Pauling's voice responses, based on the class currently being played.

Notes

  • All assists counted as kills, with the exception of Sentry Gun kills.
  • Completing a contract with an advanced objective would cause the points gained to overfill into the bonus contract's scoring.
  • Objectives triggered multiple times in a single life if the requirements were met a second time. For example, getting 10 kills in one life would trigger the "get 5 kills in one life" objective twice.

Bugs

  • The Sandvich contract would give points for feeding a Sandvich to enemies, despite stating it only gives points for feeding teammates.
  • The "absorb health" objective of the Dead Ringer contract would activate many times if the Spy came into contact with an environmental hazard that deals high damage. For example, if a saw blade deals 5000 damage, the Dead Ringer would absorb 2500 health and so trigger the objective 20 times.

Campaign Stamp

Upon entering the Campaign, players were given a Gravel Tough Break Campaign Stamp. This non-tradable stamp made the player eligible to receive weekly campaign contracts. It also tracked the player's total Campaign Contract Points (CP), Contract Bonus Points, Contracts Completed, and Contract Kills. The badge increased in quality for every 1000 CP earned during the event.

Campaign Weapons

Main article: Decorated

Each contract a player completed awarded them a Campaign-exclusive weapon skin or weapon case. These weapons are statistically identical to their standard counterparts, but have a cosmetic texture applied to them. These textures are uniquely positioned on each weapon to make them look slightly different from other weapons with the same skin. Weapon skins come in six different rarities and five levels of wear. Weapons that come from cases can have the Strange quality, can more rarely be Unusual, and in the rarest cases can be both.

Skins applied on weapons have a randomly positioned pattern. Only one of the possible placements is shown below.

The Harvest Collection

The Harvest Collection is one of two weapon skin collections available through completing Tough Break contracts. The skins in this collection are based off of autumn colors and patterns, such as leaves, pumpkins and trees.

The Gentlemanne's Collection

The Gentlemanne's Collection is the second weapon skin collection available through completing Tough Break contracts.

The Pyroland Collection

The Pyroland Collection is one of two collections available only through opening weapons cases. To obtain a weapon from this collection, one must open a Pyroland Weapons Case with a Tough Break Key. Weapons from this collection focus on patterns and designs found in Pyroland.

The Warbird Collection

The Warbird Collection is the second Tough Break collection available only through opening weapons cases. Weapons from this collection can be obtained by opening a Warbird Weapons Case with a Tough Break Key. These weapons bear motifs from the air arms of the countries that fought in World War II, including those of the USAAF and Luftwaffe.

Rarities

Weapons awarded during the Tough Break Campaign were of one of six different rarities. Weapons awarded for completed a contract were from the first four grades. Weapons obtained by unlocking weapons crates were from grades 3-6.
