Thanks for helping out

I have been meaning to thank you for helping out with the update.

So, the incompleting bug is only on the Mann Manor Contract; I happened to me. I ran through two whole games with it at 7/8 before I remembered to check the Contact view.

You confirmed that the Candy Pumpkins do drop on Ghost Town?

I play MVM Ghost Town a lot and I noticed it drop sometimes when my teammates are killed (the robots can pick it up too). I played on official boot camp servers and it drops even if it is not halloween.

"it drops even if it is not halloween" Check. (good catch) Most of the effects work all year. That was something I did when updating, most relevant articles used to say the effects were event only, probably some still do. PD Pickup images

I took pictures of the new spellbook pickups from Monster Bash, but noticed there isn't images for the pickups from Player Destruction maps other than Watergate, where do I get the images from the files? Andreng (talk) 08:56, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

I was chatting with Gabrielwoj about that just last night, in the hopes that you might be interested. I think Gabrielwoj tried to make a transparency of the Spell flask pickups. I know I once saw the PoD soul pickup in one of the VPK but I didn't write it down where. There really ought a Help guide in the wiki. Rikka is good at the VPKs. I hope either will join in here. Yeah, I'll be checking these soon. And I'll post the path to the model here. I could volunteer for making new images, but right now I'm on a low-resolution PC (1366x788). so yeah... I'll have a go at it, is 1920x1080 fine? Andreng (talk) 00:36, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Not quite sure the location of the models, I'm pretty much busy and possibly don't have time in the next month at all. User Hinaomi Hinaomi-sig.png Rikka Takanashi (talk) β€’ (contributions) 00:56, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Maybe some pointers then? M I K A D O 282 πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ (talk) (To Do) 02:01, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Yes, 1920x1080 is perfect. The models are located at models\props_halloween\hwm_flask_vial.mdl, do you know your way around HLMV or do you need help with? The Flask model has more than one skin, so, by going to Model tab and then selecting the Skin, you can switch to other colors. I believe that the models for the bottles in Watergate are stored on the map's .bsp file, let me extract the model and give to you. I'll see about the Pit of Death skulls as well. User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.png β–ͺ User Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 03:32, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Can't seem to get HLMV to work, crashes when i try to view the mdl file. 03:45, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
The WaterGate materials and models are here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/fvw3p1b3tf84bg8/Watergate_Materials_and_Models.zip/file, please refer to the "Readme.txt" found inside the zip to set-up things properly. The Pit of Death skull is made out of particles, so, there's no model for it (other than an almost invisible model that is used as a base to these particles). What exactly do you want to do with these? I may be able to make an image out from the Particle Editor on TF2. Feel free to contact me if anything goes wrong with these. Also, make sure that you have the fire overlay and cubemap replacements, because the bottle reflects a lot. Have you previously used TFMV? Please tell me if there's something on the "File... Recent Models" tab, thanks. User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.png β–ͺ User Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 03:53, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Never used anything like this before, so the pictures on the Pickups page is all taken on HLMV? 03:58, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Nearly all, if not all of the images on the Wiki were taken by using HLMV. I have a friend who works on image creation and has the same high resolution as you do, I could ask for him for these pick-up images. User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.png β–ͺ User Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 04:01, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Managed to get it to load the bottle model as you said, but there already is an image of it on the site. I was thinking of adding the pickups for Pit of Death, Monster Bash and Cursed Cove via screenshots similar to the spellbook variants as they lack the particle effects. Andreng (talk) 04:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good for me. The Beer Bottle image is just from how it appears on the HUD, I suggest not replacing it, but upload a new one under a different file name. Do you want help to obtain the material and model files for the "fallen body parts" from Monster Bash? User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.png β–ͺ User Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 12:18, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Maybe the screenshots I took can be replaced with their respective HUD counterparts (despite lacking the particle effects). I'm too unfamiliar with HLMV to be able to replicate something like the beer bottle image. Andreng (talk) 13:34, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Explosive Barrel jumping

Have you been able to successfully jump with the explosive barrels? In my limited testing, their effect seems to me to be an instant kill in a shorter range, with no damage outside that range. If you know how to jump with the explosive barrels, that would be worth a write up in Jumping. (This OP is in regards to a statement added to Environmental death#Explosive barrels regarding jumping with the barrels.) M I K A D O 282 πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ (talk) (To Do) 17:45, 30 October 2018 (UTC) 19:10, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

I've never tried jumping with it as it always kills me. I'll try it with Heavy to see if he can survive the blast. Andreng (talk) 18:14, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
I was the one who stated it was more dangerous, solely because i think it's not impossible under some conditions (Uber, Vaccinator, Bonk etc.)
Tested, only while under the effects of an Uber will a player survive a barrel explosion. Addcond 68 results in no damage taken, meaning the damage dealt is blast. I think the barrels are quite similar to sentry busters where it always result in an instant kill without Uber. Andreng (talk) 14:13, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Monster Bash and other environmental hazards and infoboxes

1) Linking to the sections within articles is preferred to linking to REDIRECTs.

2) Go ahead and link to the sections in environmental death for hazards in the Underworlds.

M I K A D O 282 πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ (talk) (To Do) 00:24, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

What do you mean? Do you mean to link to Underworld#Cauldron instead of just Underworld? Andreng (talk) 03:51, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Not quite.
1) Pitfall is a REDIRECT, use a direct sectional link: Pitfall (that seemed the standard to me when I started (why this is may be discuses somewhere in Help:, I can't remember where, maybe to reduce double redirects)).
2) I am talking specifically about about the map-hazards parameter on Map Infobox; the Underworld link is for the Broad Topic or List of Underworlds, while map-hazards is for listing the specific hazards, which should be links either to the specific hazard articles (e.g., Skeletons or Merasmus) or the relevant Environmental death section. I fixed one of your map-hazards edits the other day, but I can't remember which map.
2.a) Ideally, Underworld#Cauldron will be replaced with the table (I don't necessarily see there being anchors for the map rows in there).
M I K A D O 282 πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ (talk) (To Do) 14:06, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
I see your edits to Cauldron and Monster Bash. (To be honest, I may have been the one that put the Pitfall redirect there, in at least one of them.) But the Underworld links are still there; Underworlds are not hazards per se, even though they almost always have one or more hazards. Please list individual hazards instead. The original thought 9 Events ago was that the Health drain was the feature of the Underworld, and it took editors a few years to stop saying things like, "This Underworld does not have the normal Underworld Health drain."
Maybe there could be an Underworld parameter added to the Infobox (there isn't one?), but I'm not personally interested in that. M I K A D O 282 πŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ πŸŽƒπŸŽƒ (talk) (To Do) 15:55, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Halloween and other dictionary entries:

Andreng, you seem active in the translation dictionary; would you wan to set these up?

Andreng (talk) 14:12, 4 July 2019 (UTC)I have no idea what im doing. While the store page was successfully up to date, each taunt's buy-now button broke (and some items added seem to be lacking a picture). What do you mean by setting up? Doesn't monoculus and merasmus have their own page?

Not their own pages, but common strings for them:

Andreng (talk) 14:50, 4 July 2019 (UTC)I would like to, but I'm afraid I'll break something else. I'm trying to find a way to get the buy-now buttons to work again. Andreng (talk) 18:21, 4 July 2019 (UTC) Managed to fix the mess I made, will get on to that if i have the time.

Thoughts on Major Updates and Halloween Events

I will give some thought to the statements about Halloween Events being Major Updates. I have tended to think about the Halloween celebrations as eventes more than updates. An updates is an addition of content while the event is the duration the special game changes. Updates and events are not the same thing, even if the are closely releated; an update adds content while and event usually but not always begins with a content update and sometimes ends with a patch. SFIX is generally not considered to have been a major update, and some don't even consider to be an update at all.

Maybe the idea is to change most of the lead sentences to read "major update and Halloween event". M I K πŸŽ„ D O 1 8 Ho Ho Ho .πŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸŽ… (talk) (Help Wanted!) 02:17, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

I also thought about it for a while. But on the TF2 official website all Halloween events are listed as 'major updates' (http://www.teamfortress.com/history.php) What's interesting is that Smissmas 2017-2019 are not considered major updates. Andreng (talk) 03:34, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

Broadly, Valve is permitted to not enforce consistency upon itself. M I K πŸŽ„ D O 1 8 Ho Ho Ho .πŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸ¦ŒπŸŽ… (talk) (Help Wanted!) 18:51, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Mantreads/Chargin' Targe/Splendid Screen edit

Hi there,

can these weapons deal damage to buildings, or can this strange part be applies regardless? Because I can't get them to do damage on buildings. If you can apply the strange part, could you get a picture of that?
GrampaSwood (talk) 07:37, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

I know it sounds crazy but according to backpack.tf those parts can be applied to them. Of course I'm sure the counter will never go up. https://backpack.tf/stats/Strange/Mantreads/Tradable/Craftable https://backpack.tf/stats/Strange/Splendid%20Screen/Tradable/Craftable https://backpack.tf/stats/Strange/Chargin%27%20Targe/Tradable/Craftable Andreng (talk) 07:40, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

I think this reddit post explains the phenomena, and then there's this.
