Welcome to the Wiki!

Hello and welcome to the Official Team Fortress Wiki! I see that you are a new user so I just wanted to give you some things to note to help you get started.

First off, on the Team Fortress 2 Wiki, we have a set of rules called the style guide which defines what should and shouldn't be done. Of course, if the style guide can't answer your questions, we have a nice help section that could answer your questions. Now If you find that neither of these have answered your questions, stop by the IRC. There we have many editors, moderators, even administrators who are willing to help. The IRC is also a nice place to socialize with the other users.

Other miscellaneous things to note:

  • Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen. This is a nice way to see whats happening and who is doing what. Usually users provide an edit summary in the "Summary" field before you save your changes so people who view the recent changes can get a quick idea of what that person did.
  • Many articles have a "discussion" or "talk" page. When posting on an article's talk page you should add --~~~~, this will add a signature and timestamp to the end of your comment so others can easily tell who posted it. Just remember when editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
  • You can also customize your user page however you like. Also if you would like to add any self-made content to the wiki, please do so by adding the prefix User:Darkid/ to the page title when you create the page.

See you around :) User M-NINJA Signature.png 17:25, 1 October 2011 (PDT)

RE: Patch/dictionary edits

Please leave the patch notes exactly as they would appear on the patch source, likewise leave the achievement descriptions how they would appear in tf_english.txt. Thanks. i-ghost 11:15, 17 January 2012 (PST)

Ah, sorry, thought capitalization was within the bounds of change. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 11:17, 17 January 2012 (PST)

I used to be...

I used to be a wiki editor like you, but then i took an arrow to the knee. I love your tiny tiny edits keep up your good work. Hopefully you could use my user template on your userpage: {{User big point}} TheDoctor 15:26, 28 January 2012 (PST)

I don't own Skyrim, but I'd take an arrow to the knee for it. Thanks for the encouragement! Darkid (Talk | contribs) 15:30, 28 January 2012 (PST)

RE: redirects

Not that I wish to discourage you from editing in general, please read Template:W. Your edits are defeating at least one of many of the purposes of redirects, one of which is to make editing easier. Thanks. i-ghost 11:29, 30 January 2012 (PST)

I'll take that with a grain of salt--one of the listed "benefits" of non-piped behavior is the ease of use of what links here. However, if everything redirects properly, it is easier to use this function without looking at Resupply lockers, Resupply, Resupply locker, Supply cabinet, etc. I do see your point, though. Quick-fix

Regarding your removal of the Strange Variant section of the Quick-fix, I would like to say that all of the other Medi-gun pages explain it as well. This is likely due to the fact that it differs from the exact concept of a strange. As it stands, the Quick-fix page is inconsistent with the others. Upgrade 15:37, 9 March 2012 (PST)

I would tend to say that the rest need this removed, as they stand. The information is repetitive; albeit not excessively so, but beyond necessity. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 15:47, 9 March 2012 (PST)
Add'l Note-- The wrenches have the same "issue", so I'll defer to what is the majority--feel free to replace that edit.
Thank you for explaining. Upgrade 15:52, 9 March 2012 (PST)

Note to self

When I get back home: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/index.php?title=Medic&diff=next&oldid=927338. Make a character box. Touch up strange kill counts. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 12:13, 18 March 2012 (PDT)

Patch template edits

Hey there. Instead of converting the patch links on thousands of articles you can get this fellow to do it by sticking Category:Patches on their Requests page. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 17:31, 1 April 2012 (PDT)

It's on the blacklist--I'd love to talk to wind (tomorrow, when he's online, or in IRC) about this. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 17:35, 1 April 2012 (PDT)
I've already spoken to him on IRC, and he's not sure why the category is blacklisted but thinks it will be fine. You can force the bot to look over the pages on User:WindBOT/PageRequestsForce instead. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 17:37, 1 April 2012 (PDT)
Ninja'd, but yes. Done! Sleeping early tonight :D Darkid (Talk | contribs) 17:46, 1 April 2012 (PDT)
It should be pointed out that this incidentally FAILED for three pages (achievements, degreaser, powerjack). I question whether or not it worked at all. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 09:52, 7 April 2012 (PDT)

Set redirects

Hello Darkid. I appreciate your redirecting pages such as Demoman set; however, since most classes have more than one item set, I'm going to ask you to redirect those pages to Item sets instead. Thanks in advance. rZ 05:02, 17 April 2012 (PDT)

Template experimenting

Can you try to use the preview button when you're working on your template? It's spamming the IRC. Thanks! rebmcr 10:59, 29 April 2012 (PDT)

I frequently need to save and purge to test the template. Otherwise, yes I'd use preview. Darkid (Talk | contribs)

TF Bundle redirects - they are used.

Hi there. Please do not mark redirects as unused, redirects exist for users using the search box on the wiki or for programmatic links to the Wiki to end up on the relevant article. They are not intended to be linked to via other articles in the Wiki. The bundle redirects, for example, are linked to via optf2 - this links to TF_Bundle_DOTA2GamescomChampionship. -RJ 11:21, 7 May 2012 (PDT)

However, there is no mention of them anywhere on the wiki, so I have no idea (nor does optf2) what they refer to. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 11:46, 7 May 2012 (PDT)
They are the names for the bundles as shown in TF2's item schema. Any website that links to the Wiki using the schema's "item_name" attribute for items uses those redirects to get to the relevant article. -RJ 12:28, 8 May 2012 (PDT)

Wait...WHAT?

This Granary/de edit of yours makes absolutely no sense there is no "Granary Koth" and even the german version of this template is weird...i wonder if you could consider some help to make this template useful. If not ignore my post and undo yours, thanks. TheDoctor 14:09, 9 May 2012 (PDT)

Hrm, I seem to have messed up that template somehow. It is using a base translation (I hope that text is right) to provide standardized alternate map types. I seem to have made a logical glitch: there is no granary (KOTH) only Granary (Arena). Fixing this now...
OK, Granary is now updated. It now looks like: "Es gibt von Granary mehrere Versionen, inklusive Arena." However, there is a boldface glitch which I'm going to try to iron out now, which should fix that issue. Do you have any problems with the grammatical structure? Darkid (Talk | contribs) 15:24, 9 May 2012 (PDT)
Found the issue, fixed it. Boldface isn't an issue anymore. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 15:28, 9 May 2012 (PDT)
Still there Granary_(Arena)/de < instead of "Control Point" it should be "Kontrollpunkt(e)". Your template must be adjusted once more, sorry. TheDoctor 11:16, 10 May 2012 (PDT)
It's no trouble-- couple of questions for you, though. First, is the grammar alright? Is that phrasing OK? Second, what's the (e) for? Is it a pluralization, or is it required by some law of German?
Have now added translation switching for the phrases: "Arena" "King of the Hill" "Control Point" and "Capture the Flag", using dictionary implementation. Darkid (Talk | contribs) 11:43, 10 May 2012 (PDT)
I dont know but "...,inklusive einer (Kontrollpunkt Variation)" is maybe nice. But you can let it stay that way, but just "Kontrollpunkt" not "Kontrollpunkte" the rest is gud. TheDoctor 12:42, 10 May 2012 (PDT)
To fix the first, edit {{Map Variant}}, it should be reasonably simple to see where that is. To edit the control point definition, you need to edit the dictionary entry. Template:Dictionary/common_strings is the link, feel free to edit any german translation issues there. User:Darkid/Sig 17:40, 23 May 2012 (PDT)

Pointlezz edit iz pointlezz

What exactly was achieved by this edit? The Wiki doesn't favour any particular variation of English; as long as all occurences on a particular page are consistent they can be left alone. » Cooper Kid (blether) • (contreebs) 16:08, 25 May 2012 (PDT)

It's not a "particular variation", it's standardized. Sorry for being slightly insistant on spelling, but I tend to be wary of that. I'll refrain from making global page-based changes for a single issue in the future. User:Darkid/Sig 16:20, 25 May 2012 (PDT)

Good luck fixing that, i dont speak all these languages and i'm not sure if i could add languaged references for that. Just a quick note that you missed to add references. As it is now, you cant click the links. TheDoctor 07:45, 4 June 2012 (PDT)

Reverted Edit

{{Show achievement|Pyro|Makin' Bacon}}

Kill 50 Heavies with your flamethrower.

That doesnt mean the achievement can only be done with the stock flamethrower, but it can be done with any flamethrower.

Don't go around undoing edits if you're unsure. At least post to my talk page. - MLGM 21:11, 16 June 2012 (PDT)

AFAIK == As Far As I Know. I am quite certain. See Phlogistinator, and it's history.
It is stock only. It's a misleading wording, but true. Thank you for the follow-up, though. User:Darkid/Sig 21:15, 16 June 2012 (PDT)
Phlogistinator uses
{{Show achievement|Pyro|Hot on Your Heels}}
It's an achievement that needs a "flamethrower" to complete. I'm telling you, when an achievement refers to "flamethrower" for the pyro, they're talking about any flamethrower; any primary weapon. ~ The same way, for example, the medic can use the Amputator to complete an achievement that asks you to use the Bonesaw.. it's all the same.
Here's another example to prove my point.
{{Show achievement|Medic|Peer Review}}
This achievement can be done with any medic melee weapon. It's not limited to the stock bonesaw, the same way the pyro can use any flamethrower. Have I proved myself? Can I revert the edit now? - MLGM
It's specific to this achievement. I'm gonna hop onto my alt and try to find a flamethrower to prove it to you. I'm almost positive. I suggest you ask on IRC as well. User:Darkid/Sig 16:25, 17 June 2012 (PDT)
Here is a thread about people failing to get this without stock. I'm trying to get pyro milestones to get these items. User:Darkid/Sig 16:58, 17 June 2012 (PDT)
I've obtained a backburner, now testing. Once I get all 3 (Phlog, Degreas, BackB) I'll make a video. User:Darkid/Sig 08:56, 18 June 2012 (PDT)

Templates

Might I ask you what do you want to use them for? Seems like it's something big. :p  –  Epic Eric (T | C) 13:49, 18 June 2012 (PDT)

I tried, (and may have failed) but hopefully succeeded in bringing over an edit warning template. Wikipedia is aggravatingly convoluted. If it fails (I hope it won't), I shall not bring over any more wikipedia templates. User:Darkid/Sig 13:51, 18 June 2012 (PDT)
Alas, it failed. Horridly. Damn you wikipedia! User:Darkid/Sig 13:56, 18 June 2012 (PDT)
I still don't see what was your goal but... I'll just go ahead and delete those templates, I guess. :P  –  Epic Eric (T | C) 13:59, 18 June 2012 (PDT)
A customized warning (akin to a protected page) to warn a user that they were touching something they shouldn't. Some wikipedians have this, many don't, but it is quite useful for complex template work (which shouldn't be protected, but should have a warning). User:Darkid/Sig 14:06, 18 June 2012 (PDT)

Blueprint templates

Are you out of your mind? Most of the langauges that you've added are not translated into. Don't do that. rZ 07:37, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

No, thanks for the insult (again). All languages are translated--look at the translations for Refined Metal, etc. Darkid 07:39 21 June 2012 (PDT)
Ah, so some of the tooltips are missing. I'll hold of on those languages, then. Darkid 07:40 21 June 2012 (PDT)
