Note to Self

Just because you haven't had any particularly ugly incidents with "Show Preview" doesn't mean that you can slack off. --LordKelvin 07:33, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Yo, about the class match-up pages.

I ran through and looked at the style guide for strategy.

"Strategy pages contain advice instead of neutral statements about gameplay, so writing "you," giving commands, being accurate and being brief are preferred to encyclopedic language. Whenever applicable, the scope of a strategy should be specified. In some cases, this will require phrases that are normally weasel words, such as "probably" and "on occasion."

Anyway, you know I'm already going through and revising those pages. So with the aid of the style guide, I'm against not using "you" to address the reader. Thoughts? I should be able to remove the cleanup tag once I'm done, right? Also, nice mech on the front page. I notice these things! -- InShane 22:37, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

The thing is, "you" is fine if used occasionally, but it sounds unprofessional when it's applied a few hundred times in an article (which it is on the community strategy pages). I would much prefer that it be used as little as possible, and if it can be avoided then all the better. --LordKelvin 02:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
My main concern as of now is the basic strategy pages, which you marked for cleanup. It sounds really awkward to say "A Pyro should do this" instead of "You should do this (as a Pyro)." I have the feeling that you've probably talked to Zoolooman about this before, but he's the one that convinced me to the "you" side, especially because it flows better. -- InShane 02:44, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Due to their relative length, I wouldn't be against using "you"s on the basic strategy pages, it's just that it starts to grate in the match-ups and community strategy sections. Since you're the one who's keeping an eye on those sections though, I'd say feel free to edit them however you see fit. --LordKelvin 02:50, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Ah, cripes, I also meant class match-ups. Those pages, as of my edits, contain general tips for class-to-class fighting, sorta like "basic class match-ups." Actually, that reminds me of an idea - Basic Match-up pages, and Community Match-up pages, like the ones you're creating on the Community Strategy Pages. -- InShane 02:48, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Well then, feel free to remove the cleanup tags and edit them as you see fit. And as for the community match-ups pages, that's what I'm actually working on, I just want to try to actually create one of each section for each class before proposing it to a mod. --LordKelvin 02:50, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Hello. It's me,~www~,again.I appreciated that you approved my request of deleting the copied zh-hans pages.
Actually, what I marked was just a small part of it.There are much more pages which have been copied by Chinese. They pissed me off, I'm in fury toward them right now.
Therefore, I think I will mark more pages in these days.Hope you don't think it's weird or something.Because the Chinese had done this kind of act for a long time, and they left many copied pages.I'm done with them.I want to make this horrible act end.
I hope you and and other admins can continue accepting my requests of deletion in the future, I will be very thankful for that.

Comm. Strategy Edit

Hey LK.

Apologies for the aggressive editing. During my time on Wikipedia, I was usually encouraged to "be bold" with edits and felt little need for the section considering the "match up" and "anti-class" strat pages do a similar job anyway - plus I felt that the section made the rest of the article feel quite bloated. Although, to be fair, I was reading the Spy Strat article beforehand and got a little annoyed that things like cloaked reload time animations were written down there.

Still, apologies for the "unadvised", should we say, edit. Still, I'd like to propose a proper "manual of style" for the community strategy articles. It seems, perhaps being their nature, that their content seems inconsistent with each other - perhaps it's something yourself and I could start working on? :D Regards. --Leftism 19:49, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Your recent Oktoberfest edit

There are multiple pages where there is additional information on obscure patch notes. These additions are in brackets and are used to clarify. I don't see why you are suddenly against this.--Focusknock 05:32, 17 August 2011 (PDT)

The user in question was adding all sorts of pointless and false information on various pages, so it may very well have been a false alarm. However, from my understanding the patch history information is meant to closely follow the actual patch notes as close as possible, and the information added on that page didn't seem relevant enough to keep. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 08:59, 17 August 2011 (PDT)

User hat checklist template rewrite.

Since we seem to be the ones that predominantly edit the user hat checklist template and we're both apparently trying to figure out what to do with the new Halloween hats, I think we should change the template a bit; there seems to be too many different sections (Classes, All, Promo, Event, Mask), and it could probably stand to be trimmed down to Classes and All. I polled a few other folks, and they all seem to agree; Tturboo thinks that we could probably change the background color on some of the items to denote quality as well. What do you think? ButteredToast 08:28, 29 October 2011 (PDT)

It sounds like a good idea, honestly, because that Promos section is getting way too big. I think Event should retain its own section though, since some of them are holiday-restricted. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 09:27, 11 November 2011 (PST)

Welcome back and all that.

I understand that you recently returned from a long vacation, so to welcome you back I'm Ghana think of some amusing puns for you. So Howe was the trip? Where did you Goa? Did you have a Wales of a time? Did you travel by sea or by Rhodes? If I can give you a Pisa advice, you should travel more often. Anyway, I'll see if I can Greece the wheels a bit and come up with more puns, but I Congo on for a while, so just tell me when you are sick of travel puns and I will think of Samoa topics. Wiki Assistance

Hello! The other day I noticed the layout of the TF2 Wiki and I find it quite appealing. I play on a Minecraft server known as The VoxelBox, and we also have our own wiki. What I wanted to know is how you were able to change the backdrop of the wiki, the format of the custom buttons and sidebar of your wiki page. I'd appreciate it if you could share some professional insight on how you guys did it, we would be very happy to know. We find our Wiki page to be very bland, and we were hoping that you would help and give us information on how to spice it up a bit. Once again, it'd be very appreciative to have your help on this.

Thank you very much, RyanM16.

Hi RyanM16, thank you for showing interest in our Wiki.
The person that you want to get in contact with is WindPower, he's the one who manages the major aspects of our Wiki. I myself have relatively little knowledge of the Wiki code since I'm not the one who maintains it, but he can certainly help you. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 18:55, 6 September 2012 (PDT)

Apply name on picture files as explained!

You have been adding pictures, I've seen. But you are not uploading these in the correct way! You need to apply User_Arran_weeviling and then the name on the file with the underscores as spaces and post them under as User Pictures in category. The ico you had made with the sentry will be moved to a new adress as soon as this is told to the mods. You are not in trouble, lad XD Only to differ out things and doing it the right way. Again?

The same image upload that you did yesterday has been removed due to not following the "Image upload guidelines" which are mentioned in the "Upload file" part. The images is linked up here to make it a User image and not a game picture. User Ravecrib9t4 Signature Logo.JPG TNS 02:30, 20 October 2012 (PDT)

Please listen, I cannot use the Image if it does not start with Killicon! Arrran Weeviling - Bang Bang Kaboom! 02:28, 21 October 2012 (PDT)

Since you don't seem to want to listen...

I told you before, please follow the image upload guidelines, and you continued to re-upload your image despite these warnings (by the way, I've also taken the liberty of correcting the link since it misspelled your username, go here for your image). The Wiki is not your personal playground for fiddling with your userpage, so please do not upload user images to the wrong namespace. If you're concerned about your Cool Kills page being broken, then use the stock Level 1 Sentry Gun kill image instead, or come to the IRC channel to see if someone can help you set up your page the way you want.

This will be the last time that I'm going to give you a friendly warning on the subject. Next time I will be temporarily blocking you from the Wiki. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 10:31, 26 October 2012 (PDT)

I would recommend substituting this when using it. It will speed up page load times, and cause less wiki lag if you ever update the signature. Darkid (talk|contribs) 20:43, 24 November 2012 (PST)

Re: deleted Dominant weapons article

Please could you explain in what way you considered the content of the article subjective? I applied a strict logical definition from game theory to TF2 weapon stats - there was no personal judgement involved.

Just for the avoidance of doubt: suppose you had 2 weapons with identical stats, except that one had a bonus of some sort. Would you agree that the one with the bonus was objectively the better weapon? That's the only sort of comparison the article was making.

By that objective standard, a select few weapons really are strictly better/worse than others, and I thought the wiki might benefit from having a list of them all in one place - could you recommend a single community strategy page that would be a suitable location for such a list? Of course if there isn't one, and by consensus it isn't a notable list on its own, I suppose there's no place for it, and I apologise for the trouble caused.Kzig 12:38, 15 December 2012 (PST)

The "dominance" of various weapons is already mentioned in various community strategy pages. If you look at Pyro melee weapons, for example, it already mentions that the Third Degree has no downsides relative to the Fire Axe.
The problem is that the content of such an article falls under the purview of community strategy. The Wiki deals mainly with hard facts and figures, like an encyclopedia. It is possible to create the page under the title of "Community Dominant Weapons Strategy," but the issue is that, again, this is already mentioned in all of the community strategy pages in some form or other, so there's no real need for such an article. --User LordKelvin Signature.png LordKelvin 12:44, 15 December 2012 (PST)

Odd deletion

File:User LordKelvin OddDeletion.png

Please view Template:Trans and enter its contents into Google Translate. I am fluent in Canadian French and the template means that the article is in progress of translation. French users would be able to read this and realize this. It is not required that I do the translation in a seperate document or sandbox. I do not know why the translation was deleted unless the wiki is currently undergoing some French discrimination riot.

If this is no longer the case please delete Template:Trans and Template:Translate.

Thanks!
