Error creating thumbnail

Hey, I've recently been remaking some paint galleries for some potato medals and I've run into a problem, maybe. I uploaded the first of the galleries today and saw that many of the images I had uploaded show up in the gallery and file itself with the text saying "Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination." (Example File:Painted Madness vs Machines Burnished Beryl 2019 UNPAINTED.png) I was just curious if this was just a cache issue or if I should be doing something different before uploading more images. I would appreciate any help! H20verdrive (talk) 02:45, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Hey, that's only a cache issue that should not affect images and should fix itself in a few days. This is the most recent image stored, which is what you uploaded · Ashe (talk) 03:10, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Gloves of Running Urgently uses wrong defindex.

Hi. The GRU is using the wrong defindex. The weapon had a new defindex when the Jungle Inferno update came in. The current defindex "1184" on the Template:Dictionary/defindex page is now used exclusively to the robots on MVM. The new index should be "239". Due to this, clicking to purchase the weapon on the page does not work, as it's redirecting to the old defindex.

Was going to update but saw that the page is automatically replaced by this bot, so.

Oh, and I posted this on User talk:PhoneWave beforehand. I thought no one used the "About this board" section, lol. User Gabrielwoj Signature Icon.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 1.pngUser Gabrielwoj Signature 2.png - User Gabrielwoj Signature 3.png 03:04, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

April Fools Day

Hi Tark. You expressed displeasure with the content I created for April Fools Day 2020, instead delaying it to 2021 which arguably created other problems. Since April Fools Day 2022 is coming up, I was wondering if you had any comments or thoughts or simply wanted to use whatever is made? Naleksuh (talk) 22:02, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

I haven't been following the wiki lately, but I recall some users are throwing ideas around for an April Fools event. I'm not sure how far they are (or if they gave up already), but I'd suggest contacting them instead (see April Fools talk page).

Operation Peculiar Pandemonium on Main Page Current Events?

Will we include Operation Peculiar Pandemonium, the usual Pineapple.TF custom MVM memes tour, on the main page's current events section once it gets a blog post soon? It's a short event, April Fools tours usually only last a week or so; it shouldn't preempt anything potentially more notable in say, a week's timespan, the way Binary Blackout lasted four months. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 14:29, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Are you involved in this project in any way? I always see you making pages before events like this one are even announced. — Tark 18:15, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
Not directly involved, no. I just grab the info that's available from tf_english.txt and items_game.txt and make sandbox pages for the eventual tour. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 22:19, 29 March 2022 (UTC)
Good.
As I said before, you're free to include any events that have a blog post. Events must have a start and end date and must be labeled as such on Steam: Bowmann Brawl Tournament is eligible, Operation Binary Blackout is not.
Also please remember to make use of the {{item description}} template. — Tark 15:05, 30 March 2022 (UTC)
That's the first I've heard of a new description template. I've added the medal descriptions, but what do I do in terms of the {{backpack item}} displays I'm using? I understand that putting the item's name in the item-name field makes it read the string from the dictionary, and the name gets filled in. But the item-description field just displays plain text, like it always has. Do I put nothing in there, do I put the item name in there? I imagine it would still just display the item name as text. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 01:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Operation Anniversary Annihilation hotlink

I noticed you hotlinked the Operation Anniversary Annihilation text in the patch notes yesterday - I've been working on another sandbox page for the medals, since they're all the information we know about the tour conclusively at the moment. Would you rather I move that to a mainspace Operation Anniversary Annihilation page already? I thought the protocol was typically to wait for an official announcement, or something of that nature. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 00:35, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Yes, in theory. The community event assessments project kinda died out, so there are no rules to enforce.
Given your involvement in these communities, could you ask them what they think about the proposed guidelines? Please leave all feedback here.
Thanks. — Tark 17:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
I've asked my contact at Potato's Servers about it, but I can't promise any feedback from them. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 04:53, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Player Medals in Promotional Item Tables

Last October, Swood and I discussed that he thought medals earned through actually playing TF2 in community events shouldn't be put in the promotional item tables, because they don't promote anything external, the way that say, the Random Acts medals do, and of course, charity donor medals do. I argue that they're still promoting an event, whether or not that event is in-game or not - and I feel that's different from a tournament medal, because it's something a wider range of the community is intended to take an interest in.

It was at that point that we had come to a compromise: that I would remove medals earned by playing the game from the promotional item tables, in exchange for him producing a disambiguation page for Community Medals that showed all available community medals, in the same style as the Genuine quality item table. It's now the following July, and nothing has come of that -- so I thought I'd ask you what your thoughts on the matter were.

Do player-earned community medals belong on the promotional item tables, and if so, should I just put them back, at least until such time as the disambiguation page is created? -ThatHatGuy (talk) 05:01, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

For your perusal, I've also created a sandbox page to show what the Expired Promotional Items table's Community section would look like, if player-earned medals were reinstated. If you don't have a problem with it, I can just merge it in; it is up to date with recent donor medals, as well. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 13:59, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Community medals (and, by extension, the Wiki Cap, Lo-Fi Longwave, and other community items) are technically promotional items. And so are tournament medals.
A good compromise, in my opinion, would be to remove everything that isn't a genuine promotion with other games in favor of creating a separate page for them. ([[Community promotions]]?)
And if this does not sound like a good idea, then please put them back/merge. — Tark 14:14, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for allowing medals back in, first of all.
I believe that tournament medals don't really follow the Active/Expired formula that the promo items page uses, as tournaments don't necessarily "expire", in the same way that an event will close forever once it is over. So what I plan to do now, having been given your blessing, is to bring back the community medals to the promotional items page, (as the ability to acquire them expires when each event ends,) and change the footnote that is currently there in the Community section to say that Tournament Medals will be showcased on the Tournament Medal disambiguation page -- which I will endeavour to rework, to showcase each design that tournament medals have.
Now, that can be done as a table similar to the promo table, with item icons and everything, or it can be a collection of backpack item displays, showcasing backpack icons and descriptions and such. It would take a while for me to get together, but I should be up to the task, however you choose for me to proceed with it. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 14:36, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
I'll leave it up to you. Please don't overwork yourself! — Tark 14:56, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Tournament Medal Rework Tech Help

I'm very excited about this one, this is it! This is the simplest, cleanest way to show these medals off. I've made a sandbox page with a test medal.

As you can see, this way, I'll only have to show a picture of the medal's design once, while still getting across all its future reuses. It's clean, it's nice, and it's what I've stuck with doing.

But I need help cleaning it up, on the tech side. Obviously the (also used as) could be turned into a common string, but how do I do the linked names beneath it? I can't just hotlink it, the way they are now, because when this gets translated, it needs to auto-link to that wiki's language. I need some sort of way to link through an auto-translated dictionary string. Can I generate a bold typefaced, automatically linked dictionary string somehow? -ThatHatGuy (talk) 04:54, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

I like this format, great idea!
Some medals are available here (item link/name). If you intend to use their in-game names (as they are, without *any* modifications), I can generate the localized names automatically later.
I've added an example to your sandbox and dictionary. — Tark 10:35, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
I've already had to slightly modify a few of the table icon names, because some medals share names with each other. The item icon for "Ready Steady Pan Helper" is, for example, already taken up by the icon for Season 1's Participant medal, as those were also apparently given out to helpers during that season, under that name. So for the medal called "Ready Steady Pan Helper" in Season 3, I've had to change the item icon link to "Ready Steady Pan Helper Season 3", and force a name change to "Ready Steady Pan Helper" beneath it, as you can see. If that sort of thing isn't a hindrance to it, I would love for you to take up localization duties on this later. I do plan to use the names that exist in the dictionary already where I can. Makes it easier.
I appreciate your help in making the strings as well. This sort of thing will allow for the streamlined translation I was hoping for, to make this sort of thing easier on the backend; it's best to think ahead with these sorts of things, after all. With the plan I had, I didn't think I would need to list more than one season in the Released section of the tables, because I was trying to have that highlight the initial season those medal designs were introduced for; but I appreciate the capability to include several seasons in an easily translatable string.
Perhaps I'll change that so the patch date is the date designs were introduced, and the Season string below it would showcase all seasons where a medal was actually used. That might actually carry more weight to it. Can we also have a string that is basically "Season X onward," for medals that are currently in use out of several sets? Anything else you can think of like that might be useful, as well -- keeping in mind that some leagues only have one set of medals. I don't know if simply listing "Season 1" would help with that. Maybe just leave that without a season indicator?
Overall, I'm a fan of the tweaks you've made to it on the backend. I'd like to see what you have in mind for small touches on this going forward. I'm glad you like the idea as well! I'm proud of it, almost as much as I was back when I did the format redesign for how medal pages operate on the wiki in general with Faghetti. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 11:18, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
'ello Tarku, would it be possible to change the functionality of the "compmedallist season and|1|3" string so it can take N amount of variables (if it is not possible to have an arbitrary amount of variables just do like 4 or 5 for now) depending on how many different season intervals you want? So, for example, "compmedallist season and|1|3|5" could print out "Season 1, 3 & 5" (so the last number should always be separated by an & and the rest by a comma). Also, would it be possible for the variables to take on both ranges and single numbers? So "compmedallist season and|1|3-7|13" would print "Season 1, 3-7 & 13" for example. Just basically as much as an all-purpose string as possible. This would greatly increase the simplicity of use for now and the future. Faghetti V.2 (talk) 13:44, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi Faghetti!
It *is* possible, but I believe it is easier to use the regular {{lang}} template instead.
Automatic translation works best with text that is predictable. Would a long string like "Season 1, 3-7 & 13" be considered valid and grammatically correct in other languages? — Tark 16:49, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
My solution to that would just be to use several ranges of the strings we already have now. It might require a tad bit more tweaking, and look a little bit less clean, but I think that something like this would be fine. Obviously, these are just placement medals for the test, but you can see how we'd lay it out for whole sets of medals. We'd group each set from first introduced to latest set at the bottom of the table, and we'd say "this set was used for all these seasons" with line breaks each time a different set was used. That way, we can preserve translation integrity, if it's an issue of how the variables might translate. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 00:16, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Also, what are our thoughts about not including charity donor medals in the tournament medal page, even if they're hosted by a league, and pointing to their respective promotional items section instead in a note below the tournament medals, since community medals already reside at the promo pages at the moment? I've trialled such a note with the Australian Hightower Highjinx tournament for now -- but if we feel like we should, I can put the donor medals in their respective league tables too. -ThatHatGuy (talk) 10:19, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

And next one you need to just replace with better one "| box-updatefeed-title = Ход обновления «Mann vs. Machine»" to
"| box-updatefeed-title = Ход обновл. режима «Манн против машин»"
It's located almost at the start of page.
Plus here translation of not created protected pages
You need to create the same page but with /ru at the end.
Here's page name and translation for it (don't copy ")
MediaWiki:Steamnewshub - "Новостной центр"
MediaWiki:Main_Page/ru (it's already created but there's no text for some reason) - "Главная страница"

Main page event

Hi,

I noticed the new main page event template does not display correctly on my devices with Safari. First is that text size is super small, apparently you need font-size: -webkit-xxx-large instead of font-size: -xxx-large on Safari. Also the background image is not resized correctly, it looks super zoomed in on my iPhone and iPad, which I do not know what's happening. Hope these can get fixed.

Thanks!

--AlexT 08:32, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, this has been changed to 'rem' units, which should fix the issue. -xxx-large has very little support and won't work on most browsers. As for the image size on handheld devices, I currently do not have a fix at hand, but will look into it, unless Tark has got a solution. — Wookipan (talk | contribs) 14:46, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Tournament Medal Revamp - Release Candidate + Questions

I still have to take pictures for a lot of remaining item icons, but as far as the actual content of the tournament medal landing page goes, everything is in place now. Have a look around the table, and then come back and answer these questions as best you can:

  • Now that everything is in place, do I have your permission to move it over to the Tournament Medal page as soon as the item icons are completed?
  • I assume the localization can begin now, on the new strings written in the dictionary, as well as baked-in title overrides present in the actual table; is there anything I'd need to fundamentally change about the table to make that easier?
  • I plan to update the competitive play nav to have the item icons I made for all of these when it's over, is that okay with you?
  • Is this whole project good enough to earn the coveted Potato Fan Wikichievement?

Thank you for your time, the help you provided getting this project off the ground, and any help you'll provide on your end going forward. - ThatHatGuy (talk) 09:09, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

1. Please do! Excellent work!
2. Aye, the current implementation is perfectly fine. There are a lot of similar pieces of text that could be tokenized to make translation easier, but I'm not sure how we could do that in a way that is both easy to use and does not cause problems in some strange language.
3. Yes.
4. [clap clap clap]
Tark 13:20, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Re: answer two, now that all the text is pretty much done, you can figure out tokenizing stuff, and other such things for localization purposes while I'm taking the rest of the item icon pictures. Feel free to edit the sandbox page if you come up with an implementation you think might be best, so long as it preserves my initial English strings. Don't forget to also update the new translation notes at the bottom of the page, if you change how the mechanics of the template work.
I can see that maybe forcing item icon name overrides with the title parameter could prove to be a problem when it comes to additionally forcing translated names, the way it currently is. We may have to look into that; I'm not quite sure how that's handled.
Re: answer four, that seems like a yes on the special Wikichievement then! I imagine I'll probably get it when this whole thing is actually up, in which case, I look forward to it! -ThatHatGuy (talk) 14:58, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Been thinking a little about how you could turn a lot of that text into strings. You'd probably be able to do stuff like:
cup first: Awarded to first-place finishers in {{{2}}} Cups.
tournament first: Awarded to first-place finishers in {{{2}}} tournaments.
event first: Awarded to first-place finishers in the {{{2}}}.
generic first: Awarded to first-place finishers in {{{2}}}.
charity drive: Awarded for donations to the {{{2}}} charity drive, benefiting {{{3}}}.
with the variables being league/tournament/cup names, and var 3 being a charity.
You'd have to do that for each event type: cups, leagues, events, generic, and each medal type: first, second, third, participant, helper, staff, charity donor, supporter, etc.
Basically scan what I wrote down and make strings that replicate it. That's something you can look into doing, if you think it's a good idea. It wouldn't cover all the bases -- the "also awarded to" bits after the line jumps are still an issue we can't easily scrape into strings, but it's a start. That and the item icon name overrides are probably things you'd have to look a little deeper into, for translation purposes.
Also, now that the text is done and we have a better idea of what strings we need, should we move them out of common strings/other? I see that common strings/tournament medal table is already a category, so maybe something like that? -ThatHatGuy (talk) 11:11, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
1. Yes, I considered it earlier, but I don't think it will work.
2. I believe they should combined with the current "tournament medal table" section. — Tark 13:49, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
If we're sticking with lang strings that are in place, I did some extra experimenting, and I couldn't get item link to work as a name override nested inside the table icon template, but I did get extra lang strings to work, so now item icon name overrides can be localized into other languages as well. I ran a test of that on the Ready Steady Pan charity medals that never got distributed.
Do you think it'd be serviceable, in order to be able to directly translate everything within the table? This was pretty much the last thing we couldn't swap out English text in. If so, would you be willing to add similar things to the rest of the items with a title=X override for me? -ThatHatGuy (talk) 04:14, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I've come with a lot of technical requests

  • 1. After changes to Template:Spirit Of Giving ranks so the template would use strings stored in Template:Dictionary/items (Spirit Of Giving ranks), now in the infobox instead of normal 'Badge - Gifts Given: 0' there is now also 'None' added in front of it. In Polish version it adds the first rank name after the translated name, for some reason. Could you look into it to find what's causing it?
  • 2. Modifity how Strange ranks are displayed on the Wiki for other languges than English. For example in Polish version 'Strange Scattergun' is displayed as 'Scattergun (Strange)'. Is it possible to move Strange rank name after the name of the item and automatically add ( ) symbols for it?
  • 3. Modify how graded items are displayed. For example in Polish version 'Warhawk Rocket Launcher' is displayed as 'Warhawk | Rocket Launcher' where | symbol is added between name of the skin and name of the weapon. Is it possible to auto add this symbol for graded weapons without need to manually add it to every skin name?
  • 4. Modify how Template:Decorated grade table and Template:Decorated collection/'collection name' display names of graded weapons. Currently it's '(name of the grade) Grade'. For English speaking users this format is fine, but on translated pages other than English this looks very bad gramatically, due to how differently '(name of the grade) Grade' is written depending on language variety. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 14:32, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
1. It's not wrong, the first rank of this item is actually "The".
2. I've updated {{backpack item/Sandbox}} with a few changes, please let me know if they work.
3. Use {{Decorated|weapon|paintkit}} for graded items. Check "decorated item" @ {{Dictionary/common strings#other}}. — Tark 16:00, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
1. Ok I see it's fixed now. Thanks.
2. This also looks almost perfect, but is there a way to add brackets for the rank name i.e. 'Scattergun (Strange)' instead of 'Scattergun Strange'?
3. In this situation I can't use it. It's for Decorated/pl where I can only edit grade, wear, and skin. Can't add | without breaking it. User Denied signature.jpg Denied (Talk) 19:24, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Tournament Medal Revamp Complete!

It's live! The template is also fully translatable from within itself, including baked-in table icon name overrides, through the use of lang strings, and strings from the dictionary. We're set to go, and I've pinged all the other languages' versions of that page with a notice to update their translations. (If you'd like to do that for Brazilian Portuguese, you're more than welcome to! I see you already translated some of the table strings while you were making them.)

Featured articles in French.

Hello Tark, Luno here from the French translation team, I wanted to ask you about the Featured articles page.
It seems that the featured section on the main page as shifted around a bit, in the way it functions, I would love to make sure that those sections are tidy, up-to-date and translated in order to show up on main. As such I made a maintenance board that lists all the articles seen on the page I listed in my first line above, I assume that the "blurbs" are the pages that need to be kept translated since the main page is showing as English right now. Some are correct, some are not translated at all and some are just down right out of date and full of errors, I don't assume they'll be shown on the main again but I would still like to get them all checked out and monitored trough the navigation sub-page of French tasks known as Navigation (I'm thinking of moving navigation to to-do/navigation in the future, old mistake), in short, do I have the green light to translate to French in there? Let me know how it should go, I might make that maintenance board active if it is the case.
Sorry for the long post.

Luno 20:00, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
Hi Luno! Thank you for your hard work!.
Fetured articles are stored here, they are randomly rotated each month. Feel free to Update the English text as you see fit (and please delete any existing translation if you do so).
Also, the DYK section is stored here (common_strings → Team Fortress Wiki → Did you know...) — Tark 21:12, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello again Tark, the maintenance board I made is now functional in this page at the bottom, though I have noticed a couple problems.
ㅤㅤ1: Engineer Update and Mann vs. Machine (update) are present in the category you sent me, but not in Featured articles.
ㅤㅤ2: There are a couple blurbs listed in Featured articles that are red links.
ㅤㅤ3: The (Maps Nav) template seems to not scale at all with window/screen size unlike most other navs (I don't know if you can fix that, its present on my page), some other templates might be affected by this.
ㅤㅤ4: You've simplified this page (and maybe others) with templates instead of text, that's nice, but I will have to figure it out for the French page, which I assume will pull the French blurbs, which I have tested and it seems to work.
ㅤㅤ5: Should be all, my signature is annoying and I need to fix it someday, but that's a "me problem" hehe, cheers!
Luno 20:39, 17 September 2022 (UTC)
1. Added.
2. Yes, their creation is still pending. If you want to make them, please go ahead.
3. Pan might be able to help, but that is unfortunately outside my area of expertise.
4. The templates will show the translated text after you translate the blurbs. Here's an example (page code).
5. Your signature is great! — Tark 13:32, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Before I make any changes, I would like to know one thing.
Are the featured article blurbs supposed to be raw extracts of their source, or are they improved and cleaned with a little bit of seasoning 🧂?
This would help since it's quite different to translate blurbs to French, as English blurbs might slightly differ or have extra bits because the French source page is either translated differently or is just outdated (potentially).
I'm only thinking about this because I would absolutely translate everything from scratch just to make sure the end result is pristine, only problem is I have a lot to do on the wiki, and Scream Fortress is approaching fast.
Thanks!
Luno 16:32, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
Hi Luno! Apologies for the late reply!
The blurb can and should be modified as necessary, and the featured article should (ideally) be fully translated and updated to match its English version. — Tark 17:53, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Thank you, apologies but since we're still on topic for the main page, I've also noticed that "Featured community event:" is not localized.
This is probably another template, I personally cannot find it, and neither do I find templates appealing to edit when it comes to languages, that doesn't mean I won't try, it has to be done eventually.

Hi! You can translate it by adding "| box3-updates-text-latestcommunity = Featured community event" (like this!).
Please check the English source code for additional options (such as how the date is displayed). — Tark 00:54, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Gee thanks! It's looking better already, just one complaint, the template seems to put a hard ":" at the end of the phrase, which would be fine if French didn't put a space behind such punctuation "exemple : for French/exemple: for English" so I think I put down a dirty " " U+2000 to remediate, if temporary that is!
Thank you again Tark, you've been really helpful.

Team Color Template for Community MVM Medals

I posted this on Darkid's talk page, but he's busy at the moment -- and you seem to know your way around the item infobox template, so I thought I would also ask you. Some of the newer community Mann vs. Machine tours are utilizing medals that override their materials with custom team colors. Operation Rewired Rampage and Operation Anniversary Annihilation both do this, and Operation Holographic Harvest will most likely do it very soon.

I want to be able to showcase all the team colored images in a box off to the side, using the same format as the team colors section of the item infobox template, but I don't want to use a full infobox; I don't think it flows very well on a page describing an entire campaign, rather than a single item, like that template was meant for. So: would it be possible to create a template just for team colors, by extracting that section out of the item infobox, exactly as it is, and putting it in a separate template? That way, I can utilize it sort of like I have in my sandbox page, to give you an example -- and I can use all the team color images, even for medals that aren't paintable.

I'd like for it to start with RED and BLU headers, without the need for a header image, or anything after the team colors -- so removing everything from Basic Information down, such that it would end up looking like this. Could you help me do that? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 11:07, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Check your sandbox and let me know what you think. — Tark 19:19, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
That's exactly what I wanted! Is that all I had to do, to be able to have it be a functional, translatable template? Is it suitable to add that to the campaign pages the way it is? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 15:02, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you did -- you made it its own template at the link User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox2/template. Well, either way, it is exactly what I wanted, and I redirected all the team-color images for Rewired Rampage to fit in my sandbox page's version of it. Feel free to push the template you made to the main space, and I'll take over campaign page edits from there. Just let me know what you end up naming the template. Thank you for your help! — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 23:21, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm glad you liked it. Unfortunately, adding this feature to the item infobox would be difficult, and this way we can further customize it without breaking hundreds of pages.
Please feel free to give it any name you choose. I'm not good with names. — Tark 00:16, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
I'm unsure what you mean by that -- the feature is already in the item infobox.
The idea was to also have it as a separate thing, without unnecessary dependencies to many other handlers the item infobox uses. But we can alter this one without having to potentially break a bunch of pages, yes.
The template you made (with newly written documentation) is now live as Template:Team colors infobox. You can do what you like with the Sandbox template. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 03:56, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Absolutely Real Moustachium Weapon Blueprint Help

I've been working on my April Fools Moustachium weapons page, and I need some help with the crafting blueprint strings, and being able to include all the applicable weapons on the second panel. The crafting blueprint template can only hold seven ingredients, I think - but there are far more Australium weapons that I need to turn into Moustachium weapons. I need the ingredient panel to mimic all the weapons that are currently available as Australium weapons. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 03:00, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Nice work! Please try {{Blueprint/core/sandbox}}. — Tark 06:15, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
Some things of note so far:
  1. The Ingredients section works all right, but it seems the Results section includes a random question mark icon that I can't get rid of, and isn't long enough to display all the weapons as results, like the Ingredients section is.
  2. The Results tooltip says the result is random -- is it possible to get a string that instead says it's based on the weapon given as an ingredient?
  3. Where do I put the strings for dictionary/items/moustachium compatible weapon, and other strings related to that, for the Ingredients tab? I assume it'll still read the string if it's in the April Fool's Day Items subsection of /dictionary/items?

User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 11:15, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Fixed and moved to User:ThatHatGuy/Sandbox/blueprint.

Thanks for the help!

Hi, hope you are having a nice day! First of all, thank you so much for helping me make {{map link}} template. I was about to just delete it as I know nothing about stuffs like making/editing template, but you made one of my dreams come true, and I'm so grateful about that. *Ahem* So, I want to ask something. Is it possible to use the abbreviated version of game modes like cp, ctf, koth and others? (Example: Sawmill (ctf), Badlands (koth), etc.) As a translator, it takes quite a lot of time to write everything down, especially when there are a lot of maps listed. (like the environmental death document.) Again, thanks for the help!
Nihil (talk) 13:22, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Yes. Tokens can be added here.
Example: sawmill (capture the flag) | map name sawmill (capture the flag):sawmill (capture the flag) | map name sawmill (capture the flag) | map name sawmill (ctf):.
Make sure to add the "map name " prefix. — Tark 13:57, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
I added all maps' names, but some don't work as intended. I was trying using the template, and saw these red lines. Maybe it's caused by "common strings" template or I misused the template, but some maps are fine. I don't know what caused this. Could you find what is wrong (and try to fix it, if possible)? Thanks a lot as always! (p.s. maybe some of them are not translated yet, but there are korean pages for some of them like Altitude.

Should be fixed. — Tark 15:42, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

PT-BR Translations + April Fools Question

Hey there, just a quick update on translations for things I'm directly involved with:

  1. The Moustachium weapons page contains the outdated item description, where it says that the Moustachium was mined in "the vast New Mexico desert," rather than "the vast Australian outback".
  2. The Corolla Corral page is finished, text-wise, and is ready to be localized. That can be found at Sandbox2 -- some images do not display as they should there, but will display properly when the page is moved over. You can test it by creating the Corolla Corral page with the sandbox's content and pressing the Show Preview button. (Andrew is in the middle of getting the Demonstration video uploaded to the official channel.)
  3. The Tournament Medals template still lacks a PT-BR translation, I remember you said you were interested in doing that.

I also have a brief question: have social media posts for April Fools Day content been planned out so far? — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 05:39, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

  1. I'll update them, thanks.
  2. Looking good! But it's important that the page still works without needing to be on the main namespace. I believe the item infobox has some custom-image parameters that you can use.
  3. Apologies, I forgot.

As for social media posts, we will upload demonstration videos on YouTube and announce them on Twitter. Unfortunately we can't go "all out" due to Valve's announcement and hype of their own update-sized summer update. Our best bet here is a mix of small announcements (demo videos), whatever we decide to put on the main page and people naturally discovering the patch page (someone will eventually share it on Discord/reddit/Twitter/whatever). — Tark 16:59, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Re: answer two, I've instated the proper hooks so that all available images display as if they were on the Corolla Corral page. I can't seem to fix the Available Qualities thing displaying Unique (it'll display Genuine correctly on the Corolla Corral page), since that's based off hardcoded entries in the quality database, but other than that, the overrides preserve how things are to be displayed in the mainspace. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 05:13, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Vastly Outdated Paint Templates

Having stopped by the Paint Can article to add my little blurb about the community medals with custom paint, I noticed that the lists of paintable items linked to from there are vastly out of date, only really showcasing items from over ten years ago. But, even if we were to find all the items that have been paintable since then, the bigger problem is, we're absolutely about to break them, if we keep them as they are -- the all-class paintable items list is already broken the way it is now, because it's exceeded the template include size.

Those lists are in an unsustainable state, and even the unpaintable items list may get too large to hold itself up, at some point. We may need to slim them down, perhaps revamp the whole thing, in a way that suits our current MediaWiki limitations; and I was wondering if you had any ideas as to what we should do on that front. — User ThatHatGuy Signature Icon.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Talk.png User ThatHatGuy Signature Contribs.png 11:18, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Please bring this to the TFW discussion. I want to hear others people opinion too · Ashe (talk) 00:18, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
Hm, I can make PhoneWaveBOT (name subject to change) update these templates automatically like I've been doing with a similar page, but that requires fixing the display issue... We could try rewriting it in Lua to see if it makes any difference, but I don't have any solid ideas unfortunately (and since the page doesn't load I don't even remember how it used to look like :<)
We've been reaching our limits very often, and with 3 item updates per year, I expect things to become more problematic soon.
