Get your thinking pants on, because the Scottish Resistance is the thinking Demoman's sticky bomb launcher.
Scottish Resistance publicity blurb

The Scottish Resistance is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Demoman. Similar in appearance to the Stickybomb Launcher, it features warning colors on the magazine and a sensor camera wired to a portable battery taped onto the barrel. The Mann Co. logo is present on the sensor, albeit partially covered in duct tape. Additionally, the stickybombs fired are of a heavier-looking variety with larger, blunted spikes.

Unlike the default Stickybomb Launcher, the Scottish Resistance allows for selective detonation of laid bombs. Only those within a certain angle of the player's crosshair explode when alt-fire (default key: MOUSE2) is pressed. Players can therefore detonate traps in set areas and from behind walls and solid objects. Bombs that can be detonated are discernible by their team color outline, or white outline as seen through walls. The number of explodable bombs within sight can be expanded if the player moves backwards, effectively encompassing the Stickybombs in the crosshair radius. This unique function allows several sticky traps to be laid in various locations, but requires the Demoman to keep watch of these areas to know when to spring the trap.

The weapon also allows detonation of bombs laid under the player's feet, allowing the user to sticky jump without having to look at the bombs directly.

Additionally, the Scottish Resistance is able to fire bombs at a faster rate, and can deploy six additional bombs for a total of 14 out at any time. The bombs, however, take longer to prime at approximately 1.5 seconds after being deployed, preventing players from firing and detonating stickies in the air at enemies effectively. The stickies also have the ability to destroy bombs laid by enemy Demomen, similar to the Quickiebomb Launcher. The speed, damage, and blast radius are identical to that of the Stickybomb Launcher's stickies.

The Scottish Resistance is automatically given to any player who obtains 17 Demoman achievements.

Unused content

  • There is an unused Stickybomb model that was added during the WAR! Update.

Bugs

  • The Scottish Resistance cannot be used to destroy stickybombs from the Sticky Jumper.
  • Stickybombs that automatically detonate after a fifteenth bomb is launched do not destroy enemy Stickybombs.
  • If the player automatically reconnects to a server after they timeout, the stickies they have placed lose their glow entirely, but can still be detonated.
  • If the player disables Payload cart glow in Advanced multiplayer options running DX9, the Scottish Resistance's Stickybombs also stop glowing.
  • If the Stickybombs are detonated while moving (i.e. immediately after they are pushed by Compression blast, rockets, grenades, or while in mid-flight) the kill feed shows the Stickybomb Launcher kill icon.
  • The backpack icon for the Scottish Resistance is the old model, with the ejection port on the other side.

Trivia

  • The weapon's name is a reference to the centuries-long period of extended Scottish insurrection against English rule after being invaded in 1296.
  • The Scottish Resistance was in no way involved in the tragic explosion of American monkeynaut Poopy Joe's capsule. Mann Co.'s subsequent desire to give away the weapon was for completely unrelated and innocent reasons.[1]
  • The Scottish Resistance was originally planned to deploy 16 stickybombs as opposed to the current 14.
  • The Sticky Jumper's projectile is a bomb model added during the WAR! Update, intended for the Scottish Resistance, that remained unused until the September 15, 2011 Patch.
  • The alternative Scottish Resistance models can be seen in Gullywash.
