Just edits and future speculation

I added Totally Ordinary through Server Clearing. I think the 10000 for hale's own should be removed because it seems like speculation. Seems like it would go: 0, 10 (add 10), 25 (add 15), 45 (add 20), 70 (add 25), 100 (add 30), 135 (add 35), 175 (add 40), 225 (add 50), 275 (add 50), 350 (add 75), 500 (add 150 double 75), 750 (add 150 again), 999 (Ah valve trolling us), 1000 (150 again), 1500 (add 500), 2500 (add 1000). makes sense up to here, but the problem is, 4000 is not a rank. So maybe 4500 (add 2000), 7000 (add 2500?), 10000 (add 3000?), 13500 (add 3500?) OR maybe 4500 (add 2000), 8500 (add 4000), 16500 (add 8000), 32500 (add 16000?_ I am not going to add these to the chart until we get conformation, this just seems to make sense Danne2 13:07, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

I edited the truly feared kill count, since my sticky launcher didn't level up at 220 kills, but 225. The other kill counts above that are most likely also wrong. LiquidFire 12:05, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

1) After 5000 kills weapons become Epic (confirmed by me) - Item level 15 in steam files
2) Ater 7500 kills weapons become Legendary (lvl #17)
3) After 7616 kill weapon become Australian (lvl#18)
4) After 8500 kills weapons become Hale's Own (confirmed) (lvl#19)
5) There is #20 weapon in the game files, but it hasn't name yet.
6) This is my source of information: --KKriller 13:19, 25 June 2011 (PDT)
7516? I think it's 7615. Also, you're reading it wrong. Hale's own is lvl 20, not 19. It's number of kills - rank, and not rank - number of kills. -- User Swordz Swordz.pngSwordzUser Swordz Swordz.png (talk | contribs) 13:15, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

I removed the "Unknown" rank, as it seems that weapons still have a title of "Hale's Own" after 10k kills (A minigun with 10371 kills had the title "Hale's Own"). MyDreamName 17:20, 14 July 2011 (PDT)

Different kill ranks for different weapons

Guys, I think that different strange weapons have different kill totals, since it would be much harder to rack up 500 kills with a pain train than a minigun. This could explain the disparities. Maybe we should make separate lists? Benderp 12:16, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

- Looks like it; I saw a Rocket Launcher with over 2,000 kills and it wasn't even Epic yet. Current list shown right now is confirmed as the kill list for shotgun. I'll be testing out if Direct Hit has it's own different pool Denmax 12:20, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

-- EDIT: Nevermind. The current table shown does not equate to shotgun's. Gore Spattered isn't from 325 kills; but 350. I'll submit a Shotgun rank table after some testing. Denmax 12:35, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

--I've seen screenshots already showing a Hale's Own grenade launcher with 10,000 kills, and also a shotgun with 8700 kills. I'll need to find the screenshot of the grenade launcher again, though.[1] [2] Toahpt 13:08, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

Rank and kill count resets after trading

I've heard this around trading servers and some such. Is it true? Denmax 12:29, 25 June 2011 (PDT)

Apparently yes. I've not witnessed it though.--Kid Of The Century 12:36, 25 June 2011 (PDT)
It is true. I've traded for a few weapons that had kills, and they where reset when the trade was complete LiquidFire 12:43, 25 June 2011 (PDT)
I have witnessed it as well. Traded away a Strange Rocket Launcher for a Strange Direct Hit that already had kills on it. Was pleased to see that its kill count had reset when I received it since I wanted to count my kills, not someone else's. SurgeonDiversion 06:13, 27 June 2011 (PDT)

Named strange weapons

Does anyone know what happens if you use a Name Tag on a Strange weapon? Does the Strange prefix remain? Does the name reset when the kill count reaches a new milestone? Gentlemen, I propose an experiment, for science (and the Wiki). --Onyyx 15:47, 27 June 2011 (PDT)

Tested. A named Strange weapon has the text colour of a strange weapon, but no prefix. The item level still describes it as "Blood-Splattered" withthe number of kills still listed --User Firestorm Flame.png Firestorm 10:11, 8 July 2011 (PDT)

Template for the rank names

Currently, the rank names are hardcoded in the page. However, there are official translations and I think it would be nicer to have a "strange weapon rank names" template using language switching.

Crafting with a strange weapon

Just wanted to know if anyone tried to use a strange weapon in a crafting recipe. For example, if you craft a Strange Direct hit with a reclaimed, do you get a Strange Black Box or a normal Black Box ? DSylom 08:02, 8 July 2011 (PDT)

Pictogram comment.png Nope. It doesn't do anything. Killicon splendid screen.pngTheTimesAndQueriesOfMyAss 10:16, 8 July 2011 (PDT)

Aah, thats very helpful to know. Could someone add this info to the main strange weapon page? Untamed64 21:17, 5 August 2011 (PDT)

Pictogram nope.png Nope Wouldn't be notable just like a vintage direct hit + 1 rec will make a black box. Painted Batter's Helmet C36C2D.pngViolencejr123 21:24, 5 August 2011 (PDT)

Trivia Title Should Be Something Different

The two things under the Trivia section of this page aren't really trivia. They're more like "Did You Knows..." I feel like this should be changed to something else, perhaps something along the lines of "Keep in mind..." or something like that. Trivia seems quite out of place. Thenyproject 16:07, 23 July 2011 (PDT)

I think that people tend to name these sections "Trivia" when there is no existing section named that for some reason, regardless of content. In any case I've changed it to a more appropriate "Notes". -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 18:02, 23 July 2011 (PDT)
Thank you kindly. Thenyproject 19:35, 23 July 2011 (PDT)

A question.

Why was my Note (killing someone while during Humiliation will grant a kill to the count) removed? It's not that easily noticed, and I have checked, and it is valid.

Of course you can kill someone in huiliation and get kills not really notable. Violencejr123(talk | contribs) 21:23, 23 July 2011 (PDT)

Deleting the 10,000/Unknown from the table.

I'm pretty sure we can get rid of this. Your Strange weapon doesn't change to Unknown Grenade Launcher when you reach 10,000 kills, as the list implies. Your weapon just remains as Hale's Own. Thenyproject 14:40, 27 July 2011 (PDT)

Lagg just pointed out to me there is a tooltip on it, which I didn't notice because of the beautiful orange on brown colors. Thenyproject 14:46, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
I know it was already discussed in the channel but before this expands into something it doesn't need to I'll reiterate, the rank itself does exist. All ranks in the schema exist as values for the game to check the values of weapons with the kill eater attribute attached against. This is why the initial "Strange" prefix doesn't exist as a rank. I'll try to do something about the new style of the table making the tooltip hard to see shortly. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 14:51, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, sorry about the whole "hard to see the tooltip" issue with my re-theming of the table. Maybe we could add <small>(note)</small>, and make the "(note)" the tooltip? 404 User Not Found 15:49, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
I think the table looks good, but maybe not the orange and brown? That faint underline where it says Unknown was only noticed by me when Lagg pointed it out. I really think the issue is the color scheme. Maybe try the Hollywood route and do blue/orange? Not sure. I'll leave it up to you guys. Thenyproject 15:51, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
The color scheme I chose is the exact same color scheme as the table on this page. Basically, I used the actual "Strange" item quality color for the rank name, the "Level ## <Weapon>"/"Kills: ####" text color for "Kills", and the backpack background color, so it looks TF2-themed. 404 User Not Found 15:55, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
I understand that, and don't think it looks bad, but for that ONE tooltip, makes it kind of a pain in the ass to see. Overall, I love the new table. My only thing is that I think the text that says "Kills: XXXXX" should be white, and the ..... line under UNKNOWN marking it as a tooltip should also be white. The current colors, IMO, look a little off kilter on top of the brown. Maybe try white and see? Thenyproject 15:57, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
On second thought, can't we just extend the table from the bottom, so that the .... aren't at the very bottom of it. That would probably solve the issue. Also, there is no divider between Legendary and Australian. Thenyproject 15:59, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
Hmm....I think adding a "padding-bottom" might work well enough to add some space to the bottom of the box....only thing is, you can't have the line underneath be white, especially when the "tf2b" template changes the font color. In this instance, it changes the font color to "Strange" quality color, and because I put the tooltip template inside the tf2b template, I don't think I can do much to change the tooltip color...but yeah, I'll do a preview test with adding "padding-bottom" to the style. 404 User Not Found 16:17, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
There, how's that look? I changed the "Kills: <kills>" back to "<kills>", changed it's text color to the color of "Neutral" attributes, and added "padding: 4px" to most of the table to space things out a bit. 404 User Not Found 16:26, 27 July 2011 (PDT)
Much better, thanks. I forgot to change it myself yesterday. -- Lagg Backpack Stickybomb Launcher.png 07:56, 28 July 2011 (PDT)

Converted to Template

I took the time to convert the strange weapon ranks table into a translation switching template that supports: English; Czech; German; Spanish; French; Italian; Korean; Polish; Portuguese (Brazil); Russian; and Chinese (Traditional). Strange Medi Gun only levels from Ubercharges

As brought to your attention by SpikeX, the Strange Medi Gun may track kill assists in the weapon description, but that count is ignored when computing the rank. It would seem this is also true of Strange Wrenches and Jags. I believe this information should be specifically communicated in the exceptions list. —Lapper (talk · contribs) 16:15, 28 August 2011 (PDT)

Should this be moved to bugs?

"Killing an enemy with a compression blast from the Strange Flamethrower or Backburner will not increase your kill count."

This is sort of a bug, since killing with a compression blast is the same as killing with that weapon, therefore it should increase your kill count. Shawnchi 22:40, 3 September 2011 (PDT)

Bug with knifes...

I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but with my strange Connivers Kunai, it does not count up my ranks for backstabs. I am not sure if this happens with other weapons. Oozekip 23:03, 23 September 2011 (PDT)
