Potential Trivia: Flag Gun Trope
Proposed Trivia: "The Punchline" is a homage/reference to the classic BANG! Flag Gun trope, a comedic gag where a character "shoots" a flag that reads "BANG!" from a toy gun, as a way of mockery instead of firing a real bullet.
Argumentation:
- The BANG! flag: When the Spy fires the revolver, instead of shooting a real bullet, a red flag with the word "BANG!" written on it is ejected, exactly how the classic trope goes. In addition to this, in many variations of the trope a party blower sound effect plays and confetti is ejected alongside the flag, reinforcing that it's a prank, and the taunt includes this as well.
- Switching to a real gun after: The Spy will toss the fake revolver after firing the bang flag, proceeding to laugh and grab his real revolver after the punchline. Once again, laughing at the fact that the enemy expected a real bullet to be fired instead of a flag is part of the classic trope.
Notes: Needless to say, contacting the original creators has proved futile, and due to how obvious the reference is, I've decided to create this discussion for editors to vote in favor of or against this trivia being added. Tango935 (talk) 03:13, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Imo this doesn't need a discussion. This is just an explanation of the flag in the gun being a common joke in many places. As long as no specific reference is included e.g. "this is a reference to the Joker" (as has been added before) it's fine to add without a discussion.
