Revision based on dueling

Some of the unused voice responses are using in dueling; an example would be when the player is playing Demoman and accepts a duel, the Demoman might say "I'm gonna stick me thumbs in yer eyes and hang on 'till yer deid!" I'm willing to help sort this out, but it would be wonderful if other people would find out what lines, both previously used and unused, each class uses when accepting a duel. Thanks. -- En Ex (talk) 14:42, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Melee Dare

Where is this used? I haven't heard these in-game other than using the play command. If they are not used, we should move them to unused. Danton 14:45, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

They're spoken when you use the "Battle Cry" voice command while looking at an enemy and wielding a melee weapon. --Cooper Kid (Blether · Contreebs) 22:14, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

That's a good quote, but I think the current one fits the page a bit better. And shame on you for forgetting to sign your post! --Cooper Kid (Blether · Contreebs) 22:12, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Well the one right now sounds more street fighter than responses.you know. THE3STOOGES 23:10, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

New responses

The High Five ones, to be specific. Since they have some unique lines, it should be listed. I think we should change Dual-related Responses to cover Action-related Responses. --TheJohns 00:10, 15 October 2011 (PDT)

Questions

Is there a way to force your character in game to use a specific response that you want which cannot be done using Voice Commands? For example, Domination responses, etc. AlexZerker 17:07, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

New Halloween Lines

The new update has added Halloween event responses. How shall we add them? Should we create a new section in responses for Halloween responses? Nephyte 19:47, 26 October 2012 (PDT)

VCD files

They're no longer shipped with the VPK, it would seem. I'd rather not remove that information from the article, so does anyone know of where the VCD files could be found for future reference? ~Sven~ (talk) 19:05, 5 October 2013 (PDT)

VSH Medic Lines

When a mercenary in Versus Saxton Hale mode uses the ”Medic!” voice command it produces a different voice lines from the normal set depending on the presence of Medics on a map. Two sets of voice lines exist for when no player originally chose to play as Medic for that round and when all the Medics are dead in a round. These lines are attached to the voice command menu instead of playing whenever “a response rule is met” (as defined by the Responses page). It may make sense to just move them to each mercenary’s respective voice command page and put them under the Medic voice command as a conditional voice line. It would be like the section of voice commands for the “Battle Cry” that only play when a player holds out their melee and faces an enemy player but just under the “Medic!” voice command. Thoughts? Personally I think it's fine to keep it in the respective responses sections just so all the voice lines of VSH are together.

Note about browser/cache issues.

There should a note/template at the top of response pages informing people that if a file doesn't play fully it is in issue on their end. This seems to happen with regularity. Some will go so far as to make an entire wiki account just to inform everyone that a file doesn't play. I think that if there is at least some mention of the issue it could help cut down on this happening and would just be more helpful. Wouldn't need to be super fancy just some information saying that it's an issue with the cache and how to remedy it. Mediarch User Mediarch PFP.pngTalkMy Edits 14:49, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

The main issue with this idea is where to put it for the best outcome. Ideally it's on the page where files are played, because that's where the issue is noticed most of the time, but we can't put them there from what I understand. Putting it on the article itself at the top is (very likely) not going to work because people just go past it, adding an editnotice won't matter because the article itself isn't edited 99% of the time, and putting it on the talk page it'll likely be ignored too (especially when 99% of the complaints about this don't include a signature, which also gives a warning that you haven't added it yet if you try to save it without adding one).

I had been working on a script related to this, but it's still in testing. The idea is to have the script check if the requested file is returned partial or not, and then display a warning message next to the file. Its current design work with our own audio player, but I'm planning for it to catch direct link clicks, too. — Wookipan (talk | contribs) 19:56, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
