Template talk:Map locations
Current issues, questions
It's likely that this template is still a WIP thingy but I'm a bit eager to work with it so...
- Need to somehow allow multiple of coords for one obj. I have no idea how can one mark points on symmetrical maps or same stage spawns with multiple zones otherwise, incrementing through their names will meet an object limit and look untidy.
- How does one mark a control point? I mean, it is probably necessary? It's not present on the current Pier example, but still. Some of the better overlays (like the one for Badwater) made by Lolimsogreat21 containing points/pathways and such are very good in this regard, should other maps ideally be adjusted similarly?
- Also, the locations icon that's supposed to be near the list's heading is floating right next to the map rn, though you probably have noticed that.

- This project initially began in July, '21. It has since been stalled, with very little progress being made afterwards as I was the only one working on it. As it still fulfils its purpose, I decided to publish it, as it had been sitting for far too long. Apologies if it's not to your satisfactory.
- The overall idea of this project was to simplify the map locations overview format and ensure absolute consistency without the need of using image editing software to mimic the style of the current image, as it would lead to inconsistency.
- 1) I have not yet come up with a solution for having multiple objects as one, and I doubt it's possible in the wiki's current state. I've thought about automating some aspects of the template, mainly the title and perhaps the image, to reduce the use of required parameters. Unfortunately, it is also not currently possible to tidy up the code with something like loops. However, there are some loop modules/extensions out there, but none of which proved successful for the cause.
- 2) I'm aware that the template lacks some elements, and I did think of adding control point markers but I ended up scratching the idea as I felt it would become too cluttered in the end. I'm all for adding it now that you've brought it up, but lines and anything of the sort are not possible, I'm afraid. Also the initial Badwater overview were uploaded by another user.
- 3) Not sure what the issue is - looks fine on my end, and I've tested it in Firefox and Chromium-based browsers - also Edge. Can you please provide a screenshot of it?

- Oh, my fault, probably mistook it for his while looking at a few maps simultaneously. He'd done so many of these that I automatically assign them to him. Regardless, if this proj goes anywhere I guess I may try to mimic this style in PS, maybe even get Lolimsogreat to collab on it.
- Here, probably has something to do with screenres? I had similar issues when testing pages through my 15.6' and ~21' screens, though I'm not sure if the latter had some scaling setting active. It moved to it's correct spot when I took some of the screen by devtools btw.
Possible deccomission?
I think this specific template should be in some way depreciated or otherwise point towards the actual template that we use right now, with objectives and all those things.
Also, is the template up for public yet? I remember you telling me that it was out on my talk page, but then GrampaSwood, on Clockwork's talk page, said it wasn't. I dont mean to rush, just asking out of curiosity. God knows that I still need to finish up atleast 50+ maps in my sandbox (gosh so many new maps have been added since 2022), not to mention that I need to add objectives to all the rest before I migrate them to the mainspace; meaning there is no need to hurry.
Once again, sorry for bothering you so much about this. No pressure and work at your own pace, I myself do that aswell. Lolimsogreat21 (talk) 23:06, 27 July 2024 (UTC)Lolimsogreat21
- This is the template that should be used. As far as I was aware, the template wasn't ready yet, but it seems like Wooki has given the go-ahead for it on you talk page before. Make sure to follow the instructions on how these should be pushed into mainspace when you're done.

- This template is indeed an outdated version compared to the one in my user space. It was forced into a state of "readiness" and was made public at the time, although it was far from complete and not very user-friendly. I've since then retracted that decision, and for a while, the thought of deleting it kept crossing my mind; I continued to work on the dev version, hoping I could push the changes without having to delete it – but alas – things didn't go as planned.
- Now that you have brought it up, I've decided to delete the template for now so that users don't get the wrong idea – the talk page will remain, of course. That said, please do not recreate it until I declare the current one to be ready (whenever that is). Thanks. — Wookipan (talk | contribs) 20:32, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
