Flavor Quote
+
{{Talk archive
MistahFixIt brought up on the Trophy Belt's discussion page that the Sydney Sleeper's got the same flavor quote as the Trophy Belt. Might I suggest (Here's a touchin' story. Once upon a time you died, and I lived happily ever after. The end.) as "Sniper, on bedtime stories"? Or even (I've slept in the corpse of water buffalo tougher than you!)

Just this one's opinion that either line would work better considering the nature of the weapon's name, as opposed to the current quote. DocdocGoose 15:36, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Damage + Function Times
Here's what I've learned:

Damage

* Unscoped Shot: 46-50

* Scoped (0% Charge): 45-50

* Scoped (50% Charge): 70-80 (Jarate effect starts)

* Scoped (100% Charge): 130-160

Crit Damage

*Crits seems to use a standard 3x multiplier. Would it max out at 450 or higher since it spreads up to 160 damage? Mini-crit section just has the standard value currently. Mechlord 11:44, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Greenmarine, a valve developer has stated on the something awful forums that the sydney sleeper being able to crit is a bug.

Function Times

* Identical to Sniper Rifle

Conclusion: The rifle must be at least halfway charged before it will inflict the Jarate effect.

Also, the Sleeper's shots have a penetrating effect; it can hit more than one opponent in a row. -- MistahFixIt 01:19, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

::Is the damage uniform or different based on the nmber of people it hits? Also, do all people hit by penetration get jarate effect if you charged up? Turtlebolt 04:51, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Reload Animation
I just posted this new trivia: "The Sydney Sleeper uses the original Sniper Rifle's reload animation, causing the sniper to cock the gun using a bolt that is not present in the model.

" It appeasrs as if a bolt wasn't added as the creator wanted to use his own reload aniamtion, which can be found on the Sydney Sleeper's page. Does anyone disagree with this?

Trivia about piercing
The guns piercing effect is able to pierce through more than four players, although, the first person in line usually lives.

I don't understand. Why would the first person hit survive? --CruelCow 15:08, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Jarate Effect when Ubered?
I noticed something today in a mix: Whilst Uberred, an enemy Sniper hit a fully charged shot at me and I got the Jarate effect. When I lost my uber, an enemy Scout mini-critted me to death. I didn't die after the event, so I cannot confirm it. I'll do some investigation tomorrow, although it would be nice if somebody would be so kind as to beat me to this confirmation. :P --Leftism 00:31, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

:I've noticed after the polycount update that if you have Kritzkrieg, a Buff Banner, or They are Jarated if attacking an ubered player they will make the noise as if they were crit.--Ikimono1 22:56, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Sentries
A friend of mine says that the Sleeper will penetrate through sentry guns, but NOT through one that is shielded by the Wrangler. Test please! --<font color="#FF6600"><tt><big><u>Firestorm</u></big></tt></font> mod 23:19, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Unused Darts
"However, unused darts can be found in game files, which may mean that the Sydney Sleeper fired projectiles in beta stages." Can someone be a dear and take some lovely pictures of said darts and put them on this page? Thanks. -- En Ex bur (talk) 14:28, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Jarate charge
It's written there simply that it does jarate at "over 50% charge", but I think this needs a little editing as this isn't very helpful to players and it's also a bit wrong.

I mean, you don't get to see the % of the charge like you do with the regular sniper rifle so you can't know exactly when you're at 50%.

If you were to look at the charge bars, you would notice that there are 13 bars, 2 of which seem to be already charged when you scope. I tested and took screenshots, and I saw that jarate starts as soon as you get 6 out of 13 bars (or 4 out of 11 if you ignore the first two) which is less than 50%, not over 50%. But the bars are hard to keep track of while you're aiming so this also wouldn't be very helpful to players.

The only thing that you can rely on to tell you that it's ready to jarate is the jarate marker. But that marker can be misleading, because it keeps flashing on and off (hinting that you need to shoot while it's on) and stays on after you get to 100%, but confusingly, what happens is that you get jarate anytime after the jarate marker starts to go off for the first time (6/13 charge bars). That's right, it's not when it turns on, it's when it goes off for the first time, and anytime after that, regardless if it is on or off.

I think the jarate marker thing should be edited in, and also the exact time it takes for it to get jarate if someone can get that. Tiomasta 02:57, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

::A line indicating where the jarate point begins for easier notice would be great. Turtlebolt 04:54, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Trivia dispute
*Despite looking like a projectile shooter, the Sydney Sleeper is a hitscan weapon. It does not leave a dart stuck into the target of which the Sniper would shoot at. However, unused darts can be found in game files, seen in the gallery below, which may mean that the Sydney Sleeper fired projectiles in beta test stages.

I do not see why this was removed. It is interesting, and couples with the dart image in the gallery. Also, the remover, Scurve, appears to be a hater of trivia, so it looks like he's removing it for no logical reason. --<span style="color:purple">Focusknock</span>  <span class="burbg">s</span> 09:27, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

:Since it is a hitscan weapon it would be hard to show the dart moving like the Blutsauger, for example. It would also be weird if the hitscan fired and dart instantly appeared on the target. Altogether, its the best choice to just leave it out so that the Sydney Sleeper can function as intended. Turtlebolt 04:58, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Bug list
This was recently added and i was wondering if anyone knew if this was fact or just an observation

*The darts on the gun lack a BLU skin.

this may be intentional. Anyone have input? K-Mac <small>(Talk | Contrib)</small> 02:04, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

:It's both a fact and an observation. The weapon lacks a BLU skin. Someone (might have actually been me) removed the bug when Valve claimed they fixed the team colors on the weapon. All Valve did was fix the Sniper's sleeves, not the darts. In-game, the Sleeper doesn't have BLU darts, they're always RED. I highly doubt it's intentional, and is probably just because the original creator never submitted a BLU skin. Balladofwindfishes 02:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
