Tip of the Hats was an annual live streamed charity event held from 2013 to 2021 (without 2020), originated from the competitive Team Fortress 2 community. The purpose of the event was to entertain various game communities and to collect monetary donation from the community for Camp One Step (formerly known as One Step Camp), a nonprofit organization that sends cancer-afflicted children to camp.
Each event had recurring segments that made appearances each year such as Pubbing, Jumping, Surfing, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and Source Filmmaker. Sometimes other events are added into the event such as Dota Fortress and 9v9 Roll the Dice.
Contents
Item auctions
Prior to the last event[1] in 2021, Tip of The Hats would accept in-game item donations from the communities. Since in-game items would be of no use to Camp One Step, a number of donated in-game items ranging from strange weapons to unusual cosmetic items were sold to players for money during multiple silent auctions. These items themselves would often be sold for more than regular value, as they were gifted by individuals who have dedicated a vast majority of their time into Team Fortress 2 and are known for it or have contributed a large amount of their time towards making the TF2 community an overall better place.
Medals
Several medals were awarded throughout the events for donating certain amounts to the charity drive, through item or monetary donations.
In 2021, due to the absence of TF2 event content, Tip of the Hats stopped accepting TF2 item donations and distributing the TF2 in-game medals.
