Backpack (Classic)
Pickup Type: Health

The Backpack is a pickup in the classic Team Fortress games. They contain a mixture of Ammo, Armor and Health. The amount in each backpack depends on the mapmaker.

Backpacks can be dropped by the player manually or when the player dies. Backpacks dropped by the player while alive contain all of the ammo that the player's current class cannot use (such as Nails for the Soldier), while Backpacks dropped by dead players contain all of the ammo the player had when they died, minus grenades.

Team Fortress 2

The backpack is not present in Team Fortress 2, and was replaced by ammo and health boxes. There is no way in Team Fortress 2 to acquire ammo from living players, but you may acquire ammo from dead players by picking up their weapons. There is no way to manually drop ammo for pickup, but you may build a dispenser while playing as Engineer.
