Image Categories

Your opinion? -Shine 22:41, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I've deliberately left off most of those categories because I believe a majority of images in them are user images or images that do not otherwise need any additional categories. seb26 [talk] 04:41, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
But isn't a valid standalone category? Wouldn't the image only be tagged if it wasn't categorized as a user image?
Not sure what to make of your second point -- could you provide an example image that would be fine in only one of those categories? -Shine 21:11, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

RTL editing works for Templates, but they don't show up in RTL

RTL editing in the Templates work fine, however the template page itself is still in LTR form for some reason.

If we look at the Template webpage: Template:Spy_Nav/ar:

{{Template:Spy_Nav/ar}}

Notice that both the Template page and the template are still in LTR form. An example of this would be the chart titles on the left like أسلحة (weapons) (the first category) should be on the right.

The Spy Nav should look like the Spy Nav on the bottom of this page: Spy_achievements/ar. Do you see the difference between the spy nav in it's respective template and when it is inserted on the Spy achievements page? Because the whole Spy achievements/ar article is RTL, it forces the Spy Nav/ar chart to RTL, flipping the side titles to the right.

Now you might be saying what's the point of making the template page RTL, since inserting the chart to an /ar article flips the chart correctly anyways. If you notice, the words on the Spy nav in Spy_achievements/ar are coming out left to right. The side titles are correctly flipped but the information inside the box is not. I believe this is because the template page itself is still in LTR. Changing the actual template page to RTL should solve the problem.

I'll be leaving for home right now, so if you want to discuss the problem in IRC or something, I won't be available for another 2-3 hours.

tl;dr: /ar Templates allow for RTL editing, but the template pages themselves do not show not in RTL, but in LTR. Switching the template pages to appear in RTL should solve the problem.

Thank you for reading,

I've updated the main navbox template so that the direction is changed by itself on Arabic pages, thank you for informing me of this. seb26 [talk] 04:35, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
I see that you have worked hard on attempting to fix the Arabic template pages to show in RTL, and we appreciate the amazing effort. Unfortunately, the Arabic Template pages are still in LTR!
Creating a new /ar template versus creating a new /ar article is the easiest way to see that LTR view has remained on the /ar Template page. Click on both links for comparison:
The first thing you've probably noticed on the 'New_Template/ar' is the "not yet been created" message is in English, while the message on 'Article_example/ar' is in Arabic.
Another example is when you go to edit & preview those two pages:
  • You will have noticed that while you can edit in RTL in the 'New_Template/ar', when you preview the text, the text comes out in LTR.
  • 'Article_example/ar' allows for RTL editing and when something is previewed it will show proper RTL as well.
Another strange thing I noticed between the articles vs templates is that when editing 'New_Template/ar', only the actual editor box is in RTL while the rest of the page is in LTR (notice that the sentences start on the left). This differs from 'Article_example/ar' in that 'Article_example/ar' has RTL in the edit box and RTL on the whole web page, which is how it should be (The English sentences, such as the copyright warning, start from the right). I don't know if this helps maybe give a clue in what's missing, but it seems that the changes you've made for /ar Template pages have only affected the inside edit box into RTL while leaving everything else including the published page in LTR.
If the solution to have full RTL on the /ar template pages looks to be complex, require too much time, or is hard to solve, then maybe leave it to the side to puzzle over for another time. We do not want to waste your time, as we are sure you have many other important tasks to complete in this wiki.
Thank you for reading,

The whole template page should be in RTL now. As for the "not yet created" message, currently the message only appears on article pages as the text for other namespaces needs to be slightly altered. I will open up localization for these messages soon. seb26 [talk] 19:31, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, the fix is confirmed as working on the /ar Template pages. - Alsoodani 19:34, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Beta patches on {{Latest updates}}

Coulds you stick some code in to make it work please? I did some stuff at {{Latest updates/beta updates}}. Thanks. – Smashman (talk) 19:42, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

And MediaWiki:Recentchangestext? You know you want to. – Smashman (talk) 22:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Deprecated

If you're not going to allow the template to be used then why don't you delete it? I wouldn't want to make that mistake again. :) -Shine 04:42, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I reverted you because you broke the noinclude tag, which added a heap of pages to the deprecated category. My message was better anyway. And I'm not going to delete the template as I don't see the point in wasting the effort, seeing as how it is now is working just fine. seb26 [talk] 04:47, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Uploading the sound clips of a language other than English.

As the recent changes page indicates, you've seen that I've uploaded a .wav file of the Demoman's "cheers!" in Spanish. I've noticed that this, along with many other files, are on the "Wanted files" page. Before I continue to upload these wavs (roughly 45 in all), I need to know if the format itself is correct. The original file name on my computer is this: "demoman_cheers01 es.wav" and upon uploading the wav, the name was changed to this: "Demoman_cheers01_es.wav." Is this correct, and may I continue uploading these wav files? Sven 22:38, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

The filenames would be correct, but I would like to check with Pilk (another admin) before these are uploaded as he may want to have some input first. seb26 [talk] 22:43, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Alight then. Let me know what happens. I'll just keep these wavs nice and warm until you get back. Sven 22:46, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
That is indeed the correct format, with _es.wav at the end. Just make sure to change any uploading categories to have /es at the end as well.--Piemanmoo 22:53, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Seb! Sorry about the confusion with the "<" and ">."

Question

Hi there, is there a way for me to be able to work for this Web ? I really enjoy translating stuff. I have started with Swedish, and I might even do Croatian, if there is a way, please tell. =)!

All first generation hats don't have hat removal. Including the Trophy Belt. Also, why would there be a giant hole in the side if not for his headphone? – Smashman (talk) 07:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Hat != headphones, yeah what now seb26 [talk] 07:20, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I'm aware. But the headphones alone look stupid as fuck. Also, Boom!Smashman (talk) 07:26, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Youtube Userbox change appreciation

Thanks for the edit to my youtube userbox. I'm still a rookie to wiki editing, so I do in fact make quite a few (maybe even a lot of) mistakes. The image change I especially like, because I actually had a tough time finding one. Again, thanks. Zerukin[talk] 00:46, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
