I was playing at Degroot Keep, and I got lit on fire by an arrow shot by a sniper. I killed him, and my health didn't come back. I wondered if it was a bug, and I killed another guy after the fire went away, and there was no problem with my health coming back. I tested this theory two more times with the help of the same sniper, and we both agreed that this should be put on the wiki page so that valve may fix this. Hojung1996 22:30, 6 July 2011 (PDT)

2 MDL's for this weapon

Seems there's 2 different models for this weapon, both in the same folder, and both look exactly the same (as far as I can tell since loading them both up in the SDK's Model Viewer).
  1. tf\models\weapons\c_models\c_shogun_katana\c_shogun_katana.mdl
  2. tf\models\weapons\c_models\c_shogun_katana\c_shogun_katana_soldier.mdl
So what do you guys make of this? Why the 2 models? 404 User Not Found 01:21, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
One for the Demoman, one for the Soldier. User Moussekateer signature sprite.pngMoussekateer·talk 01:22, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, since the one the Demoman uses is one from the past, since he is a time traveling wizard. :P GeminiViRiS User GeminiViRiS Doubleface.jpg Talk Contribs 23:00, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
And they hold it differently as well as it being different on the HUD. This is the same with the default shotguns. They have a shotgun_engineer, shotgun_heavy and shotgun_pyro and shotgun_soldier all separate. Hope that cleared things up Pierow 05:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

One-Hit Kill

The description mentions a one-hit kill between opposing Soldiers/Demos wielding this weapon. Testing is required --User Firestorm Flame.png Firestorm 02:14, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Just tested. Soldier/Soldier, Demo/Demo, and Soldier/Demo all decap and 1HKO ONLY with the sword out. Decap happens always, 1HKO only if it is the active weapon. TF2 crosshair.png Fendermcbender 02:26, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
So it is only necessary that 1 guy has the sword out? It kills u even when u have 300 hp buff? Maybe a check if it can kill soldier or demoman which is ubered. Or if he can put weapon away after hittin ubered soldier.(btw i'm not pleased with these new weapons...) Killicon big kill.pngNWMBksr.PNG 13:22, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

How much damage does this do exactly? Even telefrags and trains deal numerical damage, this must too. Toomai Glittershine 14:39, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

well what im trying to figure out is that if the soldier kills like the demo with his eyelander and such? Gamecrazy009 21:48, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Out of curiosity, does the one-hit kill still apply when the victim is under the effects of the Battalion's Backup and fully overhealed? I ask because there is nothing specifying if the instant kill deals a specific amount of damage and there are cases where other things that were instant kill do not actually kill (Kamikaze + Overheal + Battalion's Backup) or is it handled like the Backstab, dealing a fixed factor of the victim's remaining health? -- Psychopath User Psychopath avatar.png 06:20, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

There seems to be no actual reference to this 'one-hit-kill' for Soldier vs. Soldier/Demoman or Demoman vs. Soldier/Demoman. Should I go ahead and change the wiki page so it includes detail of this? The only information that I can currently glean from this about this aforesaid one-hit-kill is the inference from the weapon description and through the video. Please let me know if I'm being short-sighted, or if I should make the edit. - Vorsprung EDIT: My mistake. Forgive my short-sightedness.

The one-hit kill does 600 damage.BLUHeavyWeaponsGuy 01:30, 23 August 2012 (PDT)

Because there is blood on this weapon when it has been used, is this again censored on some copies of TF2? Investigation! - Devozade 22:34, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Recently, Valve didn't want to censor community related items. Shock394 00:15, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
The Eyelander isn't censored, so my bet rests on no censor. – Smashman (talk) 00:22, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
And the Skullcutter, and the Claymore.--Focusknock 00:26, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Well I don't think that they should force censorship at all. It is an MA/M rated game (depending on where you are from) so you can't expect not to have that kind of thing. Variably, like the Poker Night At The Inventory, you should be able to turn on/off censorshipPierow 05:15, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
It does require censorship in some place, take Left 4 Dead 2 as an example. Shock394 23:28, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
The weapon is bloodless in the censored version. I could make a proof video if needed. --Shiko 03:23, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
A video isn't necessary, but it would be great if you could take some screenshots of it in first-person and world view to add to the page. --Cooper Kid (Blether · Contreebs) 12:19, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, it just does look like in the uncut version, just without the blood, so technically we already have any screenshots we need. I think it just should be added to the Trivia.
How exactly do the censored people tell the difference when they get a head or not? Balladofwindfishes 14:06, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Why the kill notice in the corner of course. That and your enemy's head flying off. --Cooper Kid (Blether · Contreebs) 16:53, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
The problem I see with the censored version is that you can't judge if the enemy is able to switch weapons, and this can make a difference. --Shiko 13:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

The Bug About Remember Last Weapon

In the bug section, It's listed that 'Remember Last Weapon' on spawn is considered a bug.

Personally, I don't see how this is a bug or glitch in the game, the option does exactly what it is supposed to do and so does the weapon - pull it out right after spawn and lock it until you get a kill. This really isn't a bug, more just a bad mix of your options. Moving it to Trivia or as a Note in the main section would perhaps make more sense. Bigboomar 23:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Weapon Demonstrations, We has em'

For the video of the demonstration besides killing, uses, specials, etc. we should get a side by side diffrence of how the soldier or demo draws the weapon (since the soldier sheaths it?)(please note i dont work on any of the videos...) Gamecrazy009 05:32, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Half-Zatoichi Taunt

The March 15th patch says that it fixed the bug issues with the Zatoichi taunts for Demoman and Soldier. The Demo's taunt is the Eyelanders, but what is the Soldier's? There doesn't seem to be a mention of it anywhere. Dustylou2 08:29, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Kill icon

There is an unused kill-icon in the game files, depicting two Half-Zatoichis in a sword duel pose. Seems as though this was meant to be the icon for when you one-shot someone who also has the weapon. Add this to trivia? MasterOfTheXP 20:36, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Are you sure it's not just lag issues?  –  Cructo [T][C] 21:10, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure its lag. I have the same problem when I go on laggy servers, but on other servers its fine. --Nihilus0Backpack Lugermorph.png(contribs) 21:24, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
when playing on the MSTR sandbox server, I noticed that a demoman weiling the zatochi when using the soldier model (through !em, brings up a menu to choose to equip a model or remove the equiped one, selecting the equip model function and selecting the soldie fuction)will be in a reference pose, attacking plays the buff banner blowing animation, taunting plays the robot dance taunt.

taunt kills are more amusing, as when the soldier points at the en of the taunt, the victum is decapatated! I find this halarious. note: does not occur when a soldier is equipped with the demomans zatoichi, the weapon has different data for each class. Superprototype 10:48, 26 March 2013 (PDT)

Switching away.

Not sure if this is notable or not, but the katana can be switched away when visiting a supply locker and then changing weapons as fast as possible (Mousewheel for example). --ZEROGRAVITY-A01 11:22, 5 August 2011 (PDT)

One Hit KO

I noticed that when I aim at the head of an enemy, the melee hit crits and 1 hit kos the enemy. is this a bug? Theodoremk 17:43, 25 February 2012 (PST)

Not bug, just a luck crits. Killicon black rose.png Hinaomi 22:18, 25 February 2012 (PST)

The description of the Half-Zatoichi I don't believe is a haiku even though it seems to be. I'm no poetry expert, but a haiku consist of a 5-7-5 syllable set. "Soldiers and Demos" is five syllables but "Can duel with katanas" is only six because "can" is one "duel" is one "with" is one and "katanas" is three. Six total. "For a one-hit kill" however is five and is alright. So instead of being 5-7-5, it's only 5-6-5, not a true haiku.--Magnum Force-Enforcer 16:37, 28 February 2012 (PST)

Duel can be pronounced as two syllables, but not very commonly. So this haiku makes sense, unlike the Fan-o-War' one.--Piemanmoo 16:39, 28 February 2012 (PST)

Do you think we could put this in the notes or is it something that isn't very trivial? Personally I feel as if it is rather interesting.--Magnum Force-Enforcer 17:10, 28 February 2012 (PST)

No, it's been removed from both this page and the general shogun update pages before. Balladofwindfishes 18:05, 28 February 2012 (PST)
We should appeal this, it is somewhat interesting that the haiku can be interpreted in different ways.--134shinyvaporeon (talk) 08:06, 30 April 2014 (PDT)
字足らず (Jitarazu: insufficient syllables) is recognized as an exception, and to speak of extremes, 自由律俳句 (Jiyuritsu Haiku: free-form Haiku) is also recognized (ex. Even coughing - I am alone), so this is Haiku.  –  Kii (talk) 08:48, 30 April 2014 (PDT)

I've encountered several instances when I get flawless crits if I charge and swing at the same time. My charge dosen't count as my player yells, as expected, but I get crits for the length of what the charge would have been. There's no electrical animation but I get 3 or 4 crits in a row. My loadout is Half-Zatoichi, the splendid screen, and the bootlegger. Is this a common bug? Does it come from the sword or the shield? Does it exist for other items? Has it been patched yet?

Feedback of tests and findings is much appreciated Bentned 21:27, 14 August 2012 (PDT)

I think this is inteded for the shields, it works with all weapons including the grenade launchers. Superprototype 10:40, 26 March 2013 (PDT)
