Talk:Self-made items

Hadn't realized my name had been removed. Same applies to the Community page with Smashman's knife. Considering the items are given out to specific people there's no real reason why Smashman or whoever else shouldn't be able to put their name on their image if it is their item.

Some debate can be held I suppose on this with Community items as they can be given to anyone to some extent, but with Self-Made, changing it to "A Self-Made Dalokohs Bar", implies that just anyone can receive a Self-Made one. When in fact whoever owns the Self-Made item, is clearly the creator.

No ego involved here in this subject, but I don't see why anyone's names were removed from the Community items and such.

It's like making a page about the minigun, and not saying which class it belongs to. -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 22:21, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

It's a wiki. The images are there to demonstrate, so adding your name is irrelevant to the article (sorry) and makes it seem like "Benjamuffin's Dalokohs Bar" is more important than "New's Tribalman's Shiv" or "NeoDement's Scotsman's Skullcutter".
Why you egocentric little... -The Neotank ( | Talk) User The Neotank Signeotank.gif 22:49, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Oi, I'd be pretty happy if my weapon made it into the game... Even though the name's a bit weird. The Bird Knocker. There's even an engraving of a bird flying over the grass as the sun shines on it. MAD hay. MAAAAD hay. -- Vi3trice (talk) 23:48, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Neotank, it has nothing to do with my name in particular. If the image was to be taken down and other members images kept up, it wouldn't bother me. It doesn't declare any superiority at all. There was an image uploaded of Smashman's knife, therefore it was labeled as such as it was uploaded to show one of the contributors weapons, and not JUST a community knife in general. While this as I have said is debatable for Community items if you really felt so inclined. With Self-Made items, all but a couple have been made by one person, therefore listing the owner only seems logical. A picture listed as "A Self-Made Dalokohs Bar" implies there are more of said item available than there actually is. I just don't see what the big deal is on a page about creators making items, which actually LISTS a bunch of creators names having their name linked to the image. That's like saying it's egotistical for me to have my name on the page at all. Would it be egotistical to create a page about the creators of Team Fortress 2 on the wiki?
I'm not trying to make waves, and if the whole small text was intended as a joke then fair enough. A wiki should be debatable (hence the talk section) without malice or assumptions on my intentions is all. :) -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 00:40, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Technically, there's that Spy who also got a Self-Made Chocolate D: -- Vi3trice (talk) 00:46, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
This is true :o. Though Sam uses a different account for Team Fortress 2 now. So he doesn't use it at all. Though if I had an image of him, I would of obviously labeled him appropriately. I was typing the following out before you edited the page so I shall go ahead and paste it in
"Also just wanted to add that I understand how a wiki works. Which is why I am debating the subject. I was only ever debating it based on the fact that the page in question is listing and informing about items made by certain people. The image showed one of the creators items, regardless of who put their image up. It is still a legitimate piece of information. For example, if Robin Walker had a special gun, would it be wrong to list a picture on the Gunʻs page "Robin Walkerʻs Gun"?. On a personal note, I don't hold anything high in opinion about the Dalokohs Bar. I only use it everywhere because I happen to be a Chocoholic, and really love chocolate. So seeing as TF2 is one of my favorite video games, it just fits nicely. -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 00:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)" So there you go :) -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 00:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Since I feel I have covered my personality, intentions (as I am in no way egotistical) and views on the subject. I have found somewhat of a compromise which should keep everyone happy. I have merely changed the line from "First person view of a Self-Made Dalokohs Bar" to "First person view of the Self-Made Dalokohs Bar". I hope this settles the issue. -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:07, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Since there are two in existence, I've changed it to "a." -- En Ex (talk) 01:18, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
How about "Third-person view of one of the two Self-Made Dalokohs Bars" Given that there are, as you say, two, it also gives this as a little trivia before even getting to the notes. -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:23, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
It really doesn't matter... the first line of the article says they are only given to the people who made them, and the name of the article pretty much says that also. Can we just leave it as it is? seb26 (talk) 01:27, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I'd rather it just be "Self-made Dalokohs Bar," which is what it will be if I can get more images on this page, which I'm gonna start working on. Then I'll differentiate the categories like on the community weapons page. For now, though, I agree with seb; it's good as it is. -- En Ex (talk) 01:28, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
But of course. I enjoy the discussion of various opinion, and the "compromise" I posted above, was literally when I had reached the point of not really feeling much either way. So sure, it can stay as is. Plus I'd like to add that I rather like that idea En Ex -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:32, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. And thank you for posting the images of your chocolate bar. -- En Ex (talk) 01:37, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
No problem :) -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:41, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

More images

I'd like it if we had more images on this page. Look at the Community weapons page gallery. See how it has four first-person images, and four third-person images? And notice how they show off eight different weapons? I'd like to do the same thing with this page, but I don't know most of the self-made items holders. If any of you know them, and can get in touch with them about images, that would be great. -- En Ex (talk) 01:36, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

I could get Sam to do one obviously but there would be little point really considering there is already in image up of the item. I have a few creators on my friends list, I'll see if I can get anything from them, though what with them likely having tons of people bothering them for various things I'm not sure how approachable they will be. Especially when they know I want something from them.-- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:41, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I think if you tell them why you're asking for the images, they'd be fine with it. I'll try to get some pics myself over the next few days. -- En Ex (talk) 01:45, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Indeed. Well I had a brief word with Amouro before I went off Steam, he was busy playing a game but he seemed pleasant about it. Will ask him about it again tomorrow sometime, though I said he was more than willing to come and submit it himself, so it may be here sooner than that if he does it. Goodnight En Ex :) -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 01:57, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Amouro sent me his image just now and I have added it to the gallery. -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! 18:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Nice work. -- En Ex (talk) 19:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
