The Cave edits

Hi there,

Please note that "prove me wrong" is the wrong sentiment for a wiki, you should prove yourself right rather than challenge others to prove you wrong.

In this instance, using the wording "the Hillbilly" would still imply that is the name and thus is still wrong (wording it as "the hillbilly character", as Wikipedia does, is the correct form).

Okay, my bad, I let my temper take over. I feel very strongly about that game, is all - you might've notice I went on a one-person crusade to fix all the misinformation on that other wiki anyway, but he's definitely referred to as "the Hillbilly" in his game. Let's look at this from a different perspective. The Hillbilly is a hillbilly, however he is referred to in promotional materials and in the game itself as "the Hillbilly", cos his name is never revealed. In TF2, there exists a spy character, whose name is never revealed, and is referred to universally as "the Spy". Can you see how this might be double standards, and would you permit me to change the articles back to how they were before? Relk Cehi (talk) 17:28, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
In that case, "The Hillbilly" is the name of the character similar to the Spy. The Spy does have a name, which is "Spy". It's not his legal name given by his parents, but it's the name of the character. Your initial edit said they had no names, but if they actually do have names they should use those (those "The" shouldn't be capitalised unless it also is in the game).

All the characters in both the Cave and TF2 have to have names, as they are all human beings. In the Cave it's not revealed what they are, which is why they are referred to by descriptive monikers, just as the more mysterious classes like the Spy or the Pyro are. The names that were on that other wiki were beyond doubt made-up by some fan who thought they should have names, just as the info about them having voice actors was false, as no evidence can be provided to say that it's true. So... do they or do they not have names? You say in the edit summary they don't have names, but here you claim they do have names? It seems like you're just arguing semantics now. "They are human beings so they have names" is not a valid argument here, this isn't real life and we're not a government register that requires people's real life names. If the character is referred to as "the Hillbilly", then that is their name. If they do not have names, then the articles will keep their current wording of "based on the hillbilly character from The Cave" instead of "the Hillbilly".
