Help:Style guide/User pages

From Team Fortress Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

User space pages are pages under the subdomain of User (referred to as the User space). Every also User gets their own User page with the "User:" prefix, followed by their username. By adding a "/" to the end of the URL of one's User page, it allows Users to create their own subpages on the User space to practise their Wiki skills and become more familiar with the interface. These custom User space pages are also commonly used for sandboxes (visit your own here), to-do lists, or other meta topics. Because User (space) pages are not official pages documenting official content, many of the existing style guides do not apply to them.

Guidelines

  • User (space) pages should be relevant to the Team Fortress Wiki or related work.
  • Unless specified otherwise using this template, only you are allowed to edit your User (space) pages (with a few exceptions).
  • User (space) pages should not contain categories that are intended for use on the mainspace. Some examples of this are Category:Background and Category:Weapons.
  • User (space) pages that are used to document custom weapons, gamemodes, maps, or otherwise that mimic the style of official pages should have __NOINDEX__ included somewhere on the page.
  • User (space) pages should not host content intended for external use or content that violate Wiki policies. If you believe that your User (space) page has value, consider asking if it belongs in the main namespace instead.

Exceptions

There are a few exceptions in which other users are allowed to edit your User pages:

  • Users are allowed to change the link to files when necessary, such as when it uses a redirect or when it breaks the User images guidelines.
  • Users are allowed to edit User (space) pages that mimic the look of official pages to add __NOINDEX__.
  • Users are allowed to remove mainspace categories from User space pages, this includes hiding templates (such as Template:Translation switching).

If your page is ugly, User:GrampaSwood is allowed to delete it.
