DooM pyro
DooM pyro, also known as hazmat scout, is a sub-class for the pyro involving using exclusively the shotgun. Its names derive from two different sources: "DooM pyro" is named after the 1993 first person shooter "DooM" featuring a shotgun as a main weapon, and the subclass "fat scout", which became "hazmat scout" due to the pyro's rubber suit being similar to the look of a hazmat suit. Due to this subclass' useage by a small number of players, it doesn't have a universally agreed upon name, and the names provided are merely individual players' names for this subclass.
History
Although DooM pyro has now appeared in Team Fortress 2, it was invented by the players of Team fortress 2 Classic. The mentioned source-mod contains a weapon known as "The twin barrels", a break-action double barreled shotgun for the pyro added in the "fight or flight" update that functions similarly to the force'a'nature for the scout, but in general, it is purposefully made as a reference to the DooM 2 super shotgun, with its appearance, its habit of firing both barrels of the shotgun at once, and the associated achievement titled "Rip and tear!" being a reference to a DooM comic, that was later referenced in DOOM (2016) and has became an iconic phrase in the franchise. Despite its weak damage output, players of Team Fortress 2 Classic found an affinity for the weapon and started using it for kills instead of movement, as the developers intended. One players claimed they "had no idea" it wasn't a powerful weapon as they had been using it for damage output only. This playstyle was adopted by others in Team Fortress 2 when the Team fortress 2 classic players who invented the subclass returned to the original game and replicated the strategy.
